Chapter 585: Iron Will
"I have to go back and report the situation, I don't have time to protect you anymore, be careful on your own!" Watching the captain leave, Mu Su said to Su Chen with a sad tone.
"Hey, Soldier Sister, you're letting me go just like that, aren't you afraid that I'm a bad guy?" Su Chen asked with feigned confusion.
"I believe you," Mu Su nodded.
Although she didn't know Su Chen's identity, from Su Chen's earlier mention that the sniper only had one bullet, she knew he wasn't a bad person.
"So, I'm free to go wherever I want, right?" Su Chen asked.
"Mhm."
"Alright then! Soldier Sister, thank you for your protection," Su Chen said and then left.
Simple and straightforward.
"Hey, where are you going!" But he was quickly called back by Soldier Sister.
Because the direction he was heading was clearly towards the border line!
"That's the border line, crossing over is forbidden!" Soldier Sister raised her rifle towards Su Chen.
Su Chen was speechless.
Didn't we agree that I could go wherever I wanted?
Soldier Sister, you've cheated me...
"Look, there's a plane!" Su Chen suddenly pointed behind Mu Su.
Mu Su instinctively turned her head.
By the time she looked back, Su Chen was nowhere to be seen.
"That scoundrel!" Mu Su stamped her foot in anger.
She couldn't afford to go look for Su Chen now; her primary mission was to report the situation here.
Su Chen could have easily left the area.
But he didn't; instead, he entered the dense forest.
Although the female soldier was strong, she had been injured. With so many enemies, going after them alone would've been suicide.
Such an outstanding soldier was a treasure of Huaxia.
Su Chen didn't want her to be sacrificed.
Furthermore, those border crossers had killed so many Border Guards; he couldn't let them go either.
A tinge of guilt surged in Su Chen's heart, wishing he had taken action sooner.
Then those people wouldn't have chased into the forest.
And, the object taken by the border crossers must also be a treasure.
Despite his eagerness to rescue his instructor, he had to deal with the situation here first.
Not far into the forest, Su Chen saw the female warrior.
She was dragging the bodies of her comrades.
Bringing the bodies together, the ones blasted into pieces were reassembled; she then gave a salute to the bodies.
There were seven bodies in total.
Su Chen figured there were nine Border Guards total.
Now, with seven bodies found, that meant all the other Border Guards except the female warrior and Mu Su had been sacrificed.
The oldest of these Border Guards was just over thirty, the youngest only in their twenties.
Their young lives had come to an end.
No need for other grand and heroic words; four were enough to explain everything.
Loyal to the country!
Seeing this scene, Su Chen couldn't help feeling a pang of sorrow.
He could understand this feeling.
When the soldiers of the Reverse Dragon Group were killed by Asura, he felt the same way.
That anger, unwillingness, and helplessness...
Unconsciously, Su Chen also raised his right hand solemnly to the martyrs' bodies.
After all was done, the female warrior finally sat down against a tree trunk, her leg bleeding profusely from a gunshot wound.
Beside her were the bodies of her fallen comrades.
The scene was terribly desolate.
Su Chen approached the female warrior.
"Who?"
The female warrior was very alert, and when Su Chen came within five meters of her, she noticed him, leaped up, pulled out her sidearm from its holster, and aimed it at Su Chen.
Su Chen quickly raised his hands.
"Don't shoot, it's me!"
The female warrior saw it was Su Chen and did not put down her pistol but looked at him sternly and asked with furrowed brows, "Why are you here, and where's Mu Su?"
"She went back to report the situation, I came to see if there was any way I could help you," Su Chen quickly replied.
"I don't need your help, it's dangerous here, you should leave," the female warrior finally put away her gun and said coldly.
"Your leg is bleeding; if it's not treated, you'll bleed to death," Su Chen looked at the female warrior's leg and said.
The female warrior was well aware of her leg's condition; the bullet was still inside and needed to be removed.
Otherwise, it could easily get infected.
She pulled out the Dagger from the sheath on her leg and took out the lighter she'd previously confiscated from Su Chen.
She heated the tip of the Dagger with the lighter for over a dozen seconds, then prepared to dig out the bullet herself.
However, she was dizzy from blood loss.
If she did it herself, she'd probably faint before getting the bullet out.
"Ever seen a movie?" The female warrior knew she couldn't remove the bullet on her own and looked to Su Chen.
"I have..."
"Good, then do as I tell you," the female warrior handed the Dagger to Su Chen, "first make a five-centimeter incision on my trousers."
Su Chen took the Dagger and followed the female warrior's instructions.
The Dagger was sharp, and it easily cut open her camouflage pants.
"What are you looking at, hurry up and dig out the bullet!" The female warrior urged Su Chen when she noticed him spacing out.
Su Chen began to dig out the bullet for the female warrior.
It was obvious that the female warrior had incredible willpower.
She didn't make a sound while Su Chen was removing the bullet.
As if it wasn't her leg.
But from her tightly closed eyes and the sweat beading on her forehead, it was clear she was in pain.
"Shh!"
Suddenly, a large flame burst from the female warrior's leg.
"Ah!"
She let out a painful scream.
And then, she bit into Su Chen's arm.
Damn...
Su Chen grimaced in pain.
And here I thought your willpower was so strong.
There's still a moment you can't hold back.
For the final step, Su Chen took a Mid-level Ninja bullet from the dead soldier's rifle, poured the gunpowder onto the female warrior's leg, and lit it with the lighter.
The female warrior couldn't bear the pain and screamed.
Until she nearly bit off a piece of flesh from Su Chen's arm before she let go.
"I'm sorry..." the female warrior said, gasping for breath.
Su Chen expressed understanding.
He had gone through such pain as well.
Without extraordinary willpower, one couldn't withstand it.
For the female warrior to scream in agony and not pass out already showed an iron will.
