Chapter 122: Suspected Weapons of Mass Destruction at the Root Division (Part 2)
Danzo rushed over, his face shadowed and dark. Hidden within the shadows, he unleashed his chakra mercilessly, performing his signature Wind Release technique.
"Wind Release: Vacuum Wave!"
"Clap, clap, clap…"
Fuma instantly appeared in front of Fugaku and Tetsuka. Dark, murky energy billowed from him, carrying a sinister and oppressive aura.
It transformed into fierce tigers that devoured the incoming wind projectiles one by one.
[Blissful Gluttony: Devour]
After merging with the Box of Ultimate Bliss, Fuma's body naturally inherited its chakra-devouring traits. Such elemental jutsu held little threat to him; they were like dessert after a meal.
Danzo's expression shifted slightly. Whether it was Fuma's speed, comparable to Wind Release, or that menacing jutsu that absorbed his chakra, these were things he had never encountered in all his decades in the shinobi world.
"Damn it… he's grown stronger again…"
Meanwhile, cold sweat covered Fugaku and Tetsuka. Moments earlier, their blood was racing in the heat of battle, leaving them oblivious to the lurking threat from the shadows.
"If Fuma hadn't blocked that attack just now, we'd be in serious trouble. That bastard Danzo… he's strong…"
Though Danzo's character was questionable, his mastery of Wind Release was among the best in the shinobi world.
In the original timeline, even when facing Sasuke's Susanoo in its second form, Danzo had managed to use a summoning technique in tandem with Wind Release to scatter it—proof of his strength.
At this point, Fugaku and Tetsuka were still young men in their twenties. Against a man like Danzo, still in his prime, they were clearly outmatched.
Fuma casually folded his hands in a polite gesture toward Danzo, speaking in a respectful tone:
"Just a few days ago, it seems a rogue ninja, Hiruko, who attacked our Uchiha territory, was sheltered by your Root division. According to the village's protocols, he should be transferred to the Police Force for detention."
Danzo's face stiffened. He glanced subtly at the surrounding Root members, cursing internally, "These useless failures!"
Since parting ways with Orochimaru, Danzo had been forced to abandon his research into the First Hokage's cells due to the uproar in the village.
But as luck would have it, he soon encountered Hiruko, a newly promoted Jonin with decent scientific talent. The two formed a new alliance.
Unfortunately, Hiruko lacked Orochimaru's formidable strength and the solid backing of being one of the Third Hokage's disciples.
Danzo saw him as little more than a tool and treated him like an errand boy, ordering him around with minimal respect.
This led to Hiruko's rebellion; after hastily completing Danzo's research project, he pocketed a substantial sum of money.
Before leaving the village, he planned to tour various clans with Kekkei Genkai to gather additional "gifts." However, he encountered Minato, who broke his hand, and had to be rescued by Root.
Ironically, Hiruko, who had been confined by Danzo, managed to escape through unknown means, leaving Danzo to bear the consequences of his escape.
Seeing Danzo lapse into silence, Fuma's expression turned serious, and he demanded sternly:
"Danzo, you orchestrated an attack on the Uchiha territory using a rogue ninja. Do you plan to pretend nothing happened? Hand over Hiruko, and maybe today I'll spare you some dignity!"
Danzo gritted his teeth, responding coldly:
"Hiruko has already been classified as a rogue ninja by the village and has no connection to Root. Don't make baseless accusations here!"
"Attacking Root and assaulting the Hokage's advisor—is the Uchiha Clan planning a rebellion?"
Though Danzo's tone remained firm, his heart was pounding with anxiety. He remembered vividly the last time Fuma had brutally overpowered him. If he had any way of handing over Hiruko, he would have done so already.
But Hiruko's current whereabouts were unknown, so Danzo could only bluff, trying to rely on his position in the village to suppress Fuma.
Fuma chuckled softly, pulling out a bag filled with fine, white powdery crystals. He appeared in front of Danzo in an instant.
Danzo, already prepared, quickly formed a hand seal, channeling Wind Release chakra around his body. This stimulated his cells, heightening his speed in an attempt to escape.
But no matter how he tried, he could only watch as Fuma's hand reached out and gripped his head…
Danzo cursed inwardly, then closed his eyes in defeat, as if out of habit.
"Boom…"
Once again, Fuma slammed Danzo's head into the ground. Then he delivered a light kick, cracking Danzo's ribs, before tearing open the plastic bag and sprinkling the powder across Danzo's face.
"The Third Hokage has deemed Hiruko a rogue ninja, and the Uchiha Clan is quite satisfied with this fair judgment, so we won't file any complaints."
"But we are here today to investigate spies who may be hiding in Root, reportedly carrying weapons of mass destruction. For the safety of Konoha, we ask the Hokage's advisor for his cooperation."
Danzo, struggling with the scent of powder invading his nostrils, tried to speak, but the pressure on his chest restricted his throat. He could only let out faint, rasping sounds.
"Fuma Uchiha, damn you! Is this… washing powder?!"
Fury filled Danzo's heart. It had been a long time since he'd experienced the feeling of being framed, and the shame stung him deeply. Fuma was making it clear—he was beating Danzo up simply because he could, daring him to retaliate.
Fuma looked down coldly at Danzo beneath his foot and then turned to give his orders:
"Any remaining Root members who resist shall be treated as enemy village spies and executed on the spot."
"Police Force members, listen up! Search Root immediately for any hidden criminals. Confiscate any suspicious contraband and store it as evidence in the Police Force headquarters!"
Fugaku's eyes gleamed, fully grasping the meaning behind Fuma's words. This was essentially a sanctioned raid.
"Yes!"
A chorus of agreement rang out, and the Uchiha Police Force charged into Root's territory like locusts in a cornfield. The sounds of clashing and smashing reverberated through the air.
Root members glared at Fuma, but they could only stand there helplessly like puppets. Without receiving orders, they had no idea how to handle the current situation.
Looking down at Danzo, Fuma sighed and said:
"This scene—it reminds me of you leading Root members to various clans, demanding their talented children. Just like you now, they were helpless, sad, and terrified…"
"The only thing you truly believe in, aside from the so-called Will of Fire, is violence."
"You should understand, then, that only those with the strength to back their words have a right to speak. So today, you should accept your defeat with dignity, shouldn't you?"
Danzo gasped, desperately trying to respond, but his words caught in his throat under Fuma's unyielding foot. Fuma ground his foot into Danzo's chest for emphasis.
"Of course, I wouldn't expect you to admit that. After all, some sacrifices are necessary, and everything is for the village. Today, I return your own words to you…"
If it weren't for Danzo's continued meddling, Fuma would rather not deal with him again so soon.
After all, clashing with him brought little real benefit, and he'd have to negotiate with the Third Hokage and Mito afterward—a tiresome task.
Danzo was currently more like an unpleasant figure within Konoha, a person with little worth engaging with who only left one feeling tainted afterward.
Meanwhile, more villagers began gathering around Root's perimeter, discussing the unusual situation.
"What's going on…? I've lived in Konoha for so many years, and I've never seen a building like that before. Could it be an enemy stronghold?"
A pancake vendor eyed the ominous building in confusion.
"Maybe. The Police Force has been nothing but friendly this past year, maintaining harmony with everyone. For them to act so decisively, something serious must be happening!"
"Ah, thank goodness for the Police Force! Only with them can Konoha's security improve, giving us all peace of mind…"
A woman from the Uchiha shopping district, nibbling on sunflower seeds, commented loudly.
At that moment, the Third Hokage arrived with Sakumo Hatake and the ANBU, his face blazing with fury.
"That damned Danzo… Can he not stay out of trouble? Why couldn't he simply wait to become the Nine-Tails Jinchuriki instead of stirring up all this chaos?"
