Chapter 220: Chapter 220: Jane’s Visit
A month after the Hollow Zero investigation concluded—
That day, Zhong Yan was at home preparing for a fan meet-and-greet event. In the kitchen, Pei was making lunch for him. Everything felt calm and peaceful.
But that peace was soon interrupted by a knock at the door.
Hearing the sound, Zhong Yan went to open it, only to be surprised to find Jane standing outside.
Jane, the psychology expert from the Public Security Bureau who was embedded in various criminal organizations, had somehow found his address.
Seeing her there, Zhong Yan froze for a second. He had not expected her to be the one visiting.
Before he could react, Jane spoke first. "Long time no see, little hero. Aren't you going to invite me in?"
She called him little hero because Zhong Yan had once foiled Mountain Lion Gang's plan right in front of her.
Although the plan wasn't fully ruined, the encounter had left a deep impression on her.
"Uh... come in." Not knowing Jane's purpose, Zhong Yan still invited her in out of courtesy.
That made her the third Public Security officer to visit his place—following Zhu Yuan and Qing Yi.
Those two hadn't uncovered much. Who knew if Jane would be more successful this time?
"Then I'll make myself at home," Jane said as she stepped inside without hesitation, politely using her tail to close the door behind her.
Once inside, she seemed a bit stiff—perhaps from unfamiliarity or basic manners. She didn't sit until Zhong Yan told her to make herself comfortable, at which point she took a seat on the couch.
In the kitchen, Pei was still busy, so Zhong Yan personally brewed a cup of tea and handed it to Jane, then took a seat himself—leaving some distance between them.
No way I'm taking chances, he thought. I'm a father of three now. If I get caught messing around, what would my kids think?
"Sitting so far away... afraid I might eat you?" Jane teased with a flirtatious smile, tilting her head.
Zhong Yan replied evenly, "I'm already the father of three children."
That statement immediately made Jane drop whatever suggestive thoughts she had.
She might be flirtatious, but she had her own set of principles.
Still... Zhong Yan looked only a bit over twenty, didn't he? And already a father of three?
For a moment, Jane's mind ran wild—wondering whether she ought to be arresting the mothers of those children.
Even if they weren't born at the same time, having three kids would take at least four years. And Zhong Yan had been a minor at that point, hadn't he?
If Jane ever learned that three different girls had each had a child by Zhong Yan within a year, she'd probably arrest him on the spot.
"Okay, now can you tell me why you're here?" Zhong Yan asked, finally bringing the conversation back on track.
He couldn't figure out why she had come. Had she discovered he was Uchiha?
That couldn't be it. Jane's investigation focus wasn't Uchiha—it was Tobi. And he hadn't appeared under that alias for quite some time.
So, the possibility that she had uncovered his identity could be ruled out.
"Surprised? I understand. But I'm here to ask a favor," Jane said slowly as she pulled a file out of her pocket.
Inside were photos and intel about Tobi—and even some about Uchiha.
Looking through the documents, Zhong Yan was completely confused.
"You should remember this person," Jane pointed to a photo of Tobi. "I mentioned him to you before. At first, I didn't think he was related to Uchiha. But over time, I realized... their abilities are nearly identical."
"As hard as it is to accept, it's a fact—they're the same person. Shocking, right? The legendary strongest Hollow Raider... actually has a second identity."
After unloading all that, she picked up the cup of hot tea and took a small sip.
Then she turned to Zhong Yan, her gaze softening slightly. "I heard... your team once worked with Uchiha. So, I thought—maybe you could help me find him."
Zhong Yan blinked in disbelief, then asked, "I just don't get it. Why are you so obsessed with finding him? Is there something that important you need to tell him?"
His question caught Jane off guard for a moment. Then she smiled faintly. "Everyone needs a purpose in life. He left a deep impression on me. He saved my life. I think... at the very least, I should thank him."
"Just for that?" Zhong Yan twitched an eyebrow. "Then I guess you won't be meeting him."
"My team did work with Uchiha once. But that doesn't mean much. He's elusive—so much so that even the elite Task Force Six can't track him. Let alone me."
Having figured out her real intent, Zhong Yan rejected her without hesitation.
To him, saving Jane had just been a spontaneous decision. But she was a psychology expert—if she picked up on anything, things could get dangerous.
If that happened, he might be forced to erase her memory.
Because if his identity was exposed, it wouldn't just be him who suffered—Anby and the others, even their newborn and unborn children, would be affected too.
That kind of risk was unacceptable. So, he had to eliminate all chances of exposure.
Truthfully, he still didn't trust Jane. If it had been Zhao Anmen... maybe. But Zhong Yan wasn't ready to reveal himself to him either.
"I see. Looks like I'm leaving empty-handed today," Jane said quietly, noticing the firm look on Zhong Yan's face. She calmly gathered the documents, picked up the tea, and finished it in one gulp.
Then, like a proper guest, she stood up and said her goodbye before leaving the house.
