Twilight Hunter

Chapter 20: Chapter 20

"I'm not meeting them, end of story Alice," Edward said as he turned to head upstairs.

"Why Edward, Why do you make yourself suffer," Alice questioned, her voice raised.

Her words caused Edward to stop as he was walking up the stairs.

"Because I don't want to ruin someone's life."

"Then am I ruining Arthur's life, Edward?" Alice questioned immediately, her emotions had clearly taken hold of her.

At her words, Edward turned around.

He faced his entire family however his gaze was focused on Alice.

"It's different Alice, you can't ruin something that's already in shambles, you can't ruin a life that isn't even there. You've seen how Arthur lives, that's not even human anymore. I will do the same if my mate is in the same situation as Arthur is however if she was in his situation." Edward said before stopping for a moment, his brows furrowing.

"They would already be dead Alice, Arthur isn't exactly your typical human, that's the main reason he could live as he did." With those final words, Edward turned around and headed upstairs, Alice didn't stop him this time.

"What does he mean by that Alice?" Esme questioned, her question causing everyone left in the room to turn their attention towards the pixie-like vampire.

Alice didn't respond for a while before she released a soft sigh.

"I'm sure he told you Carlisle but Arthur isn't really a typical human if he's one at all," Alice said as she walked towards the sofa, the rest of the family following her curiously.

"He's been living in the abandoned house at downtown Forks for years now. He lives by hunting wildlife in the forest however even that is scarce these days and quite hard to catch during the winter." Alice replied before she closed her eyes, it was clear that she was in pain.

It wasn't physical pain, that was easy to figure out and it wouldn't affect a cold one.

It was unforgiving emotional pain, pain that she couldn't have experienced on her own.

It was the pain that she felt almost every night since she had learned about Arthur and his life after sneaking inside that one time.

"I see, well he's certainly quite special," Emmet said as he crossed his arms, for once his tone wasn't joking, his expression wasn't the usual happy-go-lucky expression that he seemed to always have etched on his face.

"Either way, I'm going to hunt for a while more, staying this close to Arthur is turning out to be harder than expected," Alice said as she stood up once more.

"I'll leave Edward's matter to him, at the end of the day, as much as I want him to be happy, It's his own choice," Alice said as she prepared to launch in a super-speed sprint towards the outside of the mansion and into the woods, in search of roaming deer.

"He said that he doesn't feel the bond," Carlisle said suddenly, causing Emmet, Jasper, and Rosalie to turn their surprised gaze toward Carlisle.

"Yeah, he certainly doesn't feel it much, at most it's a physical attraction from what Edward told me," Alice said as she released another sigh, hoping to calm her emotional fluctuations.

"It doesn't matter, however," Alice said after a few moments, her tone of voice clearly showing her determination and grit.

"I'll make him understand, I'll make him feel that I'm the right one," Alice said as a large smile split her face, for a moment it almost seemed like she was radiating light as her determination and love for Arthur shined through.

At her words, Esme Cullen, the woman who had adopted so many children showed a soft smile.

"I'm glad Alice, I'm so glad."

Alice didn't say anymore before she disappeared in a blur of speed.

Seconds turned into minutes and finally minutes into hours.

After seven hours, the sun had already risen over the horizon though its shine was still blocked by the large clouds in the sky over Forks.

Arthur woke up, his body immediately tensing as he practically jumped from the bed, his speed astounding for a regular human.

Even an action as simple as jumping from the bed was made to look masterful by Arthur's instincts.

It was as if he was a Master Martial Artist or Gymnast.

"Right, I'm at the Cullens," Arthur mumbled a moment later, before releasing a sigh as his muscles relaxed once more.

'It's been so long since I slept over at someone else's house that I thought I was kidnapped for a moment there.' Arthur's thoughts came to a stop at that sentence.

He immediately gained a clear state of mind.

'Careful.' Arthur thought before turning around to look at the bed he had slept on.

Next to the bed was a set of folded clothes, clearly meant for him.

Arthur didn't waste a moment before changing into the clothes.

'When you're as poor as me, you can't look at a gift horse in the mouth.' Arthur thought to himself as he quickly changed into his new set of clothes.

It was a pair of black jeans that were clearly made of high-quality material as well as a white turtle neck sweater.

"These fit quite well…" Arthur said before his mind immediately went to the wayside.

'They couldn't have…'

At this moment, the door of his bedroom opened, and inside came Edward and Alice.

"We didn't molest you."
