twd: the last silence

Chapter 45: Chapter 44: Ghosts Don’t Knock

Chapter 44: Ghosts Don't Knock

Alice kept talking.

Her voice warm. Gentle.

She laughed again, speaking to Redd and the group like a loving mother welcoming lost children home.

But Axel…

He wasn't listening.

He was counting.

Boom.

The first explosion hit the east watchtower—

Wood and metal tearing apart like paper.

Screams followed.

Boom.

The second—north tower gone. Flames in the sky.

Alice turned. Her smile gone. Her body frozen.

Sweat building on her neck.

Boom. Boom.

All four watchtowers were down.

One by one.

Perfect. Timed. Ruthless.

People screamed.

Ran like rats in the dark.

Children cried. Men shouted. Guns drawn with no target.

But no one came.

No enemies. No attackers.

Just the sound—

A roar.

It echoed like thunder. Like thousands of beasts screaming for blood, steel, and fire.

A battle cry so massive it felt like war was already inside the hive.

Alice looked around, panicking.

She shouted for guards. For order.

But no one moved.

No one could.

Because there was no enemy.

The sound—

The screams—

The warcry?

All fake.

All Axel's plan.

And somewhere outside the walls, moving faster than thought, faster than sound—

Was Number One.

The shadow.

Axel's blade. His sword.

The man with no name. No face.

Just strength.

Just silence.

Number One moved like lightning, slipping past the guards outside.

No one saw him.

No one could.

He dropped one bomb under each tower. Quiet. Surgical. Gone before the dust settled.

Then he pulled out the amplifier.

The old tech.

A black box tied to screams.

He pressed play.

A recording of bloodthirsty warriors charging into war.

A sound that shattered courage and made killers piss themselves.

Inside the hive, people froze.

Ran.

Tripped. Screamed.

Because they thought death was already here.

But death didn't come yet—

It watched.

From the center.

Axel knelt still by Alice's feet.

Face in his hands.

Tears drying.

A shadow crawling back into his skin.

The trap was set.

And now, the game had begun.

---

Alice's voice cracked like a whip.

"Find out what the hell happened!" she screamed, no trace of warmth left.

That gentle mother tone was gone.

Now she was a wolf, cornered and snarling.

Guards moved, yelling orders. Scrambling. Confused.

And Axel—

Still kneeling, still silent—

Raised two fingers.

A simple, soft gesture. Like a man ordering tea.

But that was the signal.

Redd saw it.

Didn't hesitate.

He bolted to the cart in the corner—

A cart that looked like scrap and trash.

A pile of broken metal and junk.

But it wasn't junk.

It was loaded.

Redd ripped the tarp off and grabbed weapons—rifles, blades, axes.

He moved fast, faster than any man had a right to move, tossing them to the others.

His brothers.

His killers.

They caught them without a word.

Without a smile.

They were waiting for this.

Alice's men stood frozen. Confused.

Too late.

"NOW!"

Redd roared and charged like a mad dog, blood in his eyes.

His blade rose like thunder and came down like death.

The first man didn't even scream.

His head was already gone.

The others tried to run, tried to pull weapons—

But it was too late.

Because they were already moving.

Number Two to Number Seven.

They weren't men.

They weren't beasts.

They weren't anything human.

They were monsters, shaped like men.

They moved like wind, like shadows, like a nightmare wrapped in flesh.

One step. One strike. One corpse.

They didn't waste a breath.

Didn't speak.

Didn't blink.

The hive became a graveyard.

Axel rose slowly.

Not crying now.

Not broken.

Awake.

He stood and looked at Alice as the chaos erupted behind her—her men dying one by one, screaming like pigs in a slaughterhouse.

Her eyes turned to him.

She saw it now.

The dirt didn't hide his face anymore.

The mask of weakness dropped.

The silver in his hair.

The storm in his eyes.

Her mouth opened.

"Axel—?"

But it was too late for names.

Because the past was dead.

And Axel had come to bury it.
