Chapter 139: Meeting, Yet Unacquainted

After some explanation, Kiana understood that Xin Yu and Raiden Mei had merely been exercising, comparing their blade skills right after they returned.

"So that's how it was. I was wondering when Mei became so forward, to actually 'deal with' Xin Yu on the spot outside."

"You, you, watch fewer of those messy things." Xin Yu reached out and flicked Kiana's forehead, looking somewhat helplessly at his rather unreliable girlfriend. Even in the future, after experiencing those cruel events and maturing into the Herrscher of the End, Kiana's fundamental nature was still prone to mischief.

"Heehee!" Kiana stuck out her tongue, then quickly scurried off to eat her breakfast. Still, Kiana had woken up quite early today. Usually, she only got up between ten and eleven o'clock; now, it was just past eight, and she was already awake.

"Mei, have you finished your homework?"

"Kiana, what are you up to? Principal Theresa said yesterday that you're not allowed to copy homework."

"I know, I was just thinking if you haven't finished, we could do it together."

"It's alright. Though I've already finished mine, if there's anything you don't understand, you can ask me directly. I also need to review my lessons, so I'll join you," Raiden Mei said.

"Yay! What about you, Xin Yu?"

"I won't be studying with you two. I'm quite behind on my coursework and need to catch up on a lot of past knowledge. I plan to head to the library."

"The library... then let's go together."

After Kiana finished her breakfast, and Raiden Mei and Xin Yu had washed up and changed into fresh clothes, the three of them set off for the library together.

Inside the library, the students present today stared wide-eyed at a certain white-haired furball sitting at a desk. Although she was scratching her head in frustration, she was actually doing her homework!

One must understand, Kiana Kaslana, who had enrolled a month or two ago and was rumored to be a relative of the principal, was a top-tier student in her aversion to studying. She was the type to fall asleep on her desk during every class, and her grades were an unprecedented zero.

Now, this universally acknowledged poor student was actually doing her homework seriously! And it didn't look like she was directly copying from someone else as before; she was genuinely trying to do it herself!

But who was that person sitting opposite Kiana and Raiden Mei? He looked utterly ordinary, with a very faint presence. If it weren't for the fact that he was a boy, making him somewhat conspicuous in this all-girls school, everyone might have overlooked him entirely.

Those in the library who knew each other quickly formed small groups, beginning to discuss who this young man who had suddenly appeared in the school was, and what his identity might be.

Kiana wore a pained expression as she stared at her math homework, feeling like her head was swelling and about to explode.

Getting a bit frustrated, Kiana lifted her head, intending to look around and relax her mind. She saw Raiden Mei, engrossed in a book, and Xin Yu, sitting opposite her, writing something.

Slightly curious, Kiana peeked over to see what Xin Yu was writing in his notebook. When she saw the lines and formulas written there, her expression became even more dazed.

At twelve noon, Kiana closed her textbook, let out a long sigh, and stretched. The originally pained and numb look on her face finally vanished, replaced by relief and joy.

"Finally done! Good thing there wasn't too much homework assigned this time, otherwise I'd have to continue this afternoon!"

"Xin Yu, Mei, what's for lunch?"

Xin Yu packed up the books in front of him, glanced at the sky outside, and noted it was already twelve noon. After a moment's thought, he said, "I bought some noodles yesterday. Let's have noodles for lunch today."

"Yay, yay!" Kiana had tasted Xin Yu's cooking yesterday and knew his culinary skills were decent. So, no matter what he made, it wouldn't be bad. She just needed to eat with an easy mind.

Raiden Mei smiled gently and voiced no objections. The three returned home, and Xin Yu cooked quickly, preparing three servings of noodles in just twenty minutes.

"Mei, do you know your father's current situation?" Xin Yu asked Raiden Mei, who was sitting on the sofa after lunch.

"Father... I'm not sure what my father's exact situation is right now. I can't even be sure if he was in Nagazora before..." Raiden Mei's expression couldn't help but darken. If her father had indeed been in Nagazora, considering the chaotic and dangerous situation at the time, she even worried... that her father might have died in the disaster she had caused.

"Don't worry, your father will be fine. Do you need me to help you find him?"

"Is that possible?"

"No problem."

Xin Yu began to search for the item connected to him—the amulet he had given to Raiden Ryoma and his wife when he had traveled back in time. Originally, he had hoped it would help Mei's mother overcome the danger of her cancer, but in the end, she hadn't followed his instructions to keep it with her, and tragedy still struck.

Xin Yu searched for that causal connection, found the related item, and then, by subtly perceiving and peering through time and space, he said, "Your father is very safe right now, in an Anti-Entropy base in North America..."

It was just that the man's mental state seemed rather poor. His face was covered in stubble, his hair hadn't been groomed in a long time, and his clothes were particularly disheveled. His entire expression was somewhat numb.

Xin Yu didn't know if it was because his daughter had met with disaster, or if he was recalling the time they had met in the past.

But it didn't matter. Before he resolved the Second Honkai Eruption, he would just conveniently cure Raiden Mei's mother's cancer.

Upon hearing that her father was safe and sound, Raiden Mei breathed a sigh of relief. Although she didn't know her father's exact current condition, since Xin Yu said there was no problem, she didn't need to worry anymore.

In the afternoon, Raiden Mei went to wash some clothes for herself and Kiana. Xin Yu took a stroll around the school, familiarizing himself with the environment.

As Xin Yu was walking, he suddenly heard a familiar voice. He turned his head and saw Teacher Himeko chatting with a young man in a white lab coat, who looked somewhat thin but generally healthy, in front of a vending machine.

"It's rare to see you out of the lab." Himeko looked at the young man before her with some emotion.

"The experiment hit a bottleneck. I came out for some fresh air, to clear my head." The young man took a can of coffee from the vending machine.

"So many beautiful girls here, aren't you even a little interested? I remember you're not that young anymore."

"Not interested. Women are too troublesome."

"You, your name really wasn't chosen wrong, Ōno Nao. Your personality is indeed straightforward enough."

"I think I'm fine like this... Is that young man a new student?" Himeko turned her head and saw Xin Yu, who had already turned and was walking in another direction. She said with a smile, "Yes, and he's much more capable than you. So young, and he already has a girlfriend. And from what I can guess, probably more than one."

"What's wrong?"

"No, it's just that I feel like I've seen him somewhere before."

"What, do you also have a master who looks similar?"

The young man looked at the retreating figure.

"...Perhaps."
