Tron: A User's Rise

Chapter 3: A Digital World: Final

[Jay's Pov]

It's been a while since I began driving to the city. Honestly, I didn't think it would take so long, but here we are.

Sighing, I glance around at the surroundings, the hum of the bike in my ears. It was peaceful. Right up until I saw something come crashing down right in front of me.

"Crap!"

Gripping the brakes, flaps extended from the sides of the bike as I skidded to a halt. Squinting into the crater, I saw the body of a person a few yards in front of me.

Quickly hopping off my bike, my cape rematerializes as I pull the hood over my head before I ran up to the person, crouching down to check on him.

"Hey man, are you alright?" I asked him, trying to make sure he wasn't dead.

Flipping the guy over, I see gashes stretching across his body, exposing a mix of blue and black voxels and what looked like pieces of code flowing out of them.

Looking at his chest, I noticed what looked to be a "T" emblem, though it was barely visible due to the injuries this person sustained.

"Tron?" I muttered underneath my breath.

Seeing the logo confirmed what I had been suspecting since I first arrived here.

'So, I'm really in the game.' I thought as I squinted my eyes at the emblem.

As I was thinking, the dude jolted awake, struggling for breath, and barely able to move.

"Where am I? Who are you? Why don't you have a disc?" He asked me suspiciously with a hint of what I thought was fear.

Is my appearance that intimidating?

"Sorry, but I can't answer those first two questions. As to why I don't have a disc, I don't know either, but what I do know is that we both know you're running out of time." I told him solemnly.

Looking at me, I could see his eyes slightly widen before he looked down to see his wounds, his breathing quickening once he saw them.

"No, no, no. It wasn't supposed to be this way. Ugh, I'm such an idiot." He sputtered out as he tried to get up, only to fail and crash on his knees.

I could only look on in pity. I haven't been in this world long enough to understand everything that's happening, but I could at least give some sympathy to a dying person.

Walking up to him, I placed a hand on his shoulder and could tell he was scared. I imagine dying was.

"I…I am sorry." Those were the only words I could say.

"Hey… I know this is asking a lot, but can you do me a favor? A last wish from a dying program?" He asked, not even turning to look back at me.

I looked at him hesitantly before answering, "Sure, I can do that, I guess."

Releasing a breath he didn't know he was holding, he slowly unclipped the disc on his back before bringing it in front of him.

"Please, take my disc. If the people chasing me saw what I did, my friends and people I care about would be derezzed." He told me.

Walking around him, I kneel down in front of him, glancing at the disc, then back to him.

"And one more thing."

"Yeah?"

"Take care of my friends for me, yeah?"

"..."

"Please…"

That was the last thing he said before his body began to crumble into cubes. Taking a deep breath, I looked at the pile of cubes, the "programs" disc atop his scattered remains.

"I shouldn't be doing this." I groaned, "I'll grant you this one promise." I said to myself as I picked up the disc.

Looking over the disc, I fiddled with it a bit. As I did with every other new thing I saw in this game world. Sighing, I stood up before remembering how that guy had the disc position on his back.

Looking at the round object skeptically, I raise it over my head toward my back, the action causing my cape to dematerialize. Feeling around my back with the disc, I fumble around until the disc docks to my back.

"Well, that was annoy-ING?!" My sentence is cut short as I fall on my face.

Writhing on the ground, I felt like my head was going to explode. This was such an intense feeling of pain I've never felt before, like someone was setting my brain on fire while shoving knives into my head over and over.

Letting go of my head, I quickly go to grab the disc on my back, only to have a feeling of dread wash over me as I couldn't take it off. It was like the disc was fused with my back. Unable to bear the pain any longer, I began passing out.
