Chapter 538 Results of the Longevity Club_2
The Changshou Building had eighty-eight floors above ground, and similarly, six floors below, which originally served as an underground parking lot. However, after special modifications, these six levels had become the entirety of the club's secret laboratory where all confidential experiments were completed.
The elevator quickly stopped on the sixth floor, and when Chu Mo and Liang Bing stepped out, they were immediately greeted by people clad in white lab coats all around.
Liang Bing made a welcoming gesture, and Chu Mo began to stride forward. Together, they walked down the lengthy corridor and soon arrived at a door. As Liang Bing pushed the door open, a few familiar figures came into view.
The head of the Longevity Club, Yang Xuan, was standing in front of an elderly man with white hair; and an old man with blue eyes, who was evidently in the middle of an excited discourse.
One of the three managers of the club, and also the club's chief designer, the son of the wealthiest man, Zhang Dongdong, was there as well.
Compared to the spring in his step when they first met a year ago, the current Zhang Dongdong appeared to have slimmed down a bit, but he also seemed more mature and steady.
As Chu Mo arrived, everyone immediately turned their attention toward him, and at that moment, Yang Xuan quickly strode toward the entrance, his eyes bloodshot as he softly began:
"Mr. Chu, mission accomplished, after a year of preparation and research, we finally have a result. Although we are not yet at the stage of achieving eternal youth and longevity, our initial goal of life extension has been reached.
The Longevity Pill No. 1 that we have now developed has shown in experiments on lab mice, that those with only a month left to live gained an extra two and a half months of life, a significant effect, and moreover, with virtually no noticeable side effects."
As Yang Xuan's speech ended, the white-haired old man also approached with a face full of excitement.
Chu Mo recognized this elderly man; he was Frederick Alman, a top medical scientist from the United States. When Chu Mo first visited his alma mater, it was Alman who had accompanied him.
Despite visiting the Longevity Club infrequently, Chu Mo was well acquainted with the man in charge of the club's scientific research. He stepped forward to shake the old man's hand with a smile:
"Mr. Frederick, you've worked hard!"
"Chu... it should be us thanking you... I know, the investment you've made over this past year has been substantial, and you've met all of our needs with your full effort. Here, we've received the utmost attention. Chu, without your top-level support, we could not have achieved these results so quickly!"
Frederick's command of the Hua Country language was not very fluent, but Chu Mo recalled that when he first met the man a year ago, he had needed an interpreter and didn't speak the language at all. Now, in just one year, he had managed to converse with Chu Mo in the language, a testament to the considerable effort he had put into learning it.
Chu Mo gripped the elder's hands tightly, and spoke with utmost sincerity:
"Mr. Frederick, you are too humble. It is because of great individuals like you, shouldering heavy burdens, that the technology of all humanity can continue to progress. The research into longevity is not about an individual; it impacts all of humanity. Sir, your contributions will be remembered by all of mankind."
After exchanging pleasantries with the elderly man, Chu Mo finally turned his gaze to the small, white pill in his hand.
This diminutive pill represented the effort of hundreds of scientists over a year and also embodied Chu Mo's investment of hundreds of billions, finally showing a tangible hope of returns.
Zhang Dongdong, the son of the richest man, also came to Chu Mo's side. The once frivolous young man, now more dapper and serious, said in a focused tone:
"Mr. Chu, Longevity Pill No. 1 is merely a prototype and not yet perfected. It has significant flaws, such as varying reactions in some of the lab mice, despite the extended lifespan of several months for all.
The existence of Longevity Pill No. 1 represents only that our research direction is correct, but it is not the final product. We still need much more diligent research moving forward."
When they first met a year ago, Zhang Dongdong was accompanied by an internet celebrity host, constantly hitting the headlines and changing girlfriends daily, even being labeled as the entertainment world's inspector. However, in the year since he took over the Longevity Club, he had rarely appeared in public, nearly every day immersed in the research institute, as if this was where he truly belonged.
Chu Mo looked at Zhang Dongdong, who stood before him without pride or impatience, and slowly nodded before speaking:
"The Longevity Pill Number One should be considered a milestone achievement for our Longevity Club. Flaws are inevitable, how do you plan to utilize this Longevity Pill Number One?"
Chu Mo held the white pill in his hand up to his eyes, observing it closely. Except for a faint medicinal scent, it looked no different from a common cold remedy.
This time, it wasn't Zhang Dongdong who answered. As the person in charge of the Longevity Club, Yang Xuan stepped forward gently, her eyes bright, and she replied:
"Although Longevity Pill Number One has flaws, it still has effects. Our experiments have shown that it can increase a person's lifespan by one to three years. Because there are some unclear side effects, we do not recommend it for the general public. However, for those whose lives are about to end, if they are willing to take it, the effects are quite significant.
Those who are nearing the end of their lives can extend their lifespan by at least half a year to a maximum of about three years after voluntarily taking Longevity Pill Number One.
We will continue to work on the more perfected Longevity Pill Number Two, and based on this foundation, those with limited time left can try taking the first iteration of the pill. This way, they could extend their lives further, waiting for our better product to come out."
Upon hearing this, Chu Mo did not speak out. He understood what Yang Xuan meant. They intended to launch Longevity Pill Number One for use, to sell to those with little time remaining.
Such people already have little time left, and even if the pill has some side effects, they would not care.
Chu Mo did not nod immediately; he needed to think carefully about the pros and cons of this matter.
If it were an ordinary business, they might opt to release this flawed product into the market to recoup funds quickly.
However, Chu Mo himself was not short on money. He had an unlimited credit card as a backup, so there was no need to recuperate funds.
Moreover, the flaws of Longevity Pill Number One were indeed obvious, and the side effects significant. Ordinary people would suffer more than gain by taking it, and if they released the pill now, it could potentially damage the reputation of the Longevity Club.
If anyone suffered health issues due to the pill, Chu Mo's Longevity Club, not yet fully started, might face various difficulties.
Naturally, that would be a complete loss, and unnecessary.
Of course, Yang Xuan, as the head person of the Longevity Club, had voiced her opinion, which he could not publicly oppose without embarrassing her in front of many people. Chu Mo thought to find an opportunity to talk to her alone about this matter later, so he did not take a stance at the moment.
Chu Mo waved to Yang Xuan in front of him and said with a smile:
"The Longevity Club has been built for such a long time, and yet I haven't toured the research institution. Today is a rare opportunity, Xiao Xuan, please show me around."
As Chu Mo finished speaking, Yang Xuan naturally nodded and then walked ahead, leading the way for Chu Mo.
Although the research institution was six levels underground, the lighting here made it as bright as day. Walking along the corridor, they passed by various rooms in a dazzling array. When Chu Mo arrived at the biology laboratory, he saw several lab mice kept in cages. Each of the little creatures was numbered. Yang Xuan, beside him, explained:
"All the test mice here have taken the Longevity Pill. However, the timing of administration varied. Some developed side effects like limb weakness, but others quickly regained health. We are currently working on improving Longevity Pill Number One.
We believe that it won't be long before the truly complete Longevity Pill Number Two is introduced."
