Chapter 35
Hearing that Airi wanted to visit her family home, a feeling of unease gripped Souji’s heart.
Airi’s memories from the evening of July 31st to August 16th had been erased by Senzaka-senpai. She was unaware of the calamity that had befallen the inner ring, which was now deserted, and had no memory of her eldest sister melting into a heap of rotten flesh, her second sister committing suicide, or her brother being torn apart by demons.
She even became his girlfriend in a daze, simply because the AI algorithm simulated and deduced this based on her previous memories.
The inherent characteristics of a romantic-type robot further reinforced the thought of “wanting to fall in love.” This thought could even be completely unfounded. The paradox of a forced voluntariness raises another question: does this violate the ethics of artificial intelligence?
Bioroids are so realistic that people get immersed in illusory love and find it hard to extricate themselves.
Thinking of this, Souji couldn’t help but feel sorrowful.
He comforted himself internally: It’s okay, Airi kissed me willingly before she died. If she hadn’t died, we might have had a chance to be lovers. What does it matter if it’s real or fake?
Perhaps sensing Souji’s sadness, Airi silently came forward to hug him, tiptoeing like a little kitten to rub her face against his.
Souji’s heart trembled, and he reached out to hug her back.
“Souji-kun, is something bothering you?”
“It’s nothing, just feeling a little melancholy about the upcoming school term.”
“I’m just starting school, you can come back when you’re free,” she said with a smile.
No, I won’t be able to come back until the mission is over. Souji didn’t say it out loud but held her tighter.
To distract himself, he took a deep breath and then suddenly scooped her up and carried her to the bed. Airi let out a surprised cry, struggling to get up.
Souji gently pushed her down, pinning her wrists: “Airi just said she would feed me, is she planning on going back on her word?”
“Eh?! Didn’t we already do it several times last night… Um!”
She was caught off guard by his sudden kiss. Gradually, she stopped resisting, closed her eyes, and silently responded to him.

After their intimate encounter, Airi lay exhausted on the bed, breathing lightly:
“Ah… I originally thought Souji-kun was a harmless herbivore, but I didn’t expect him to be so aggressive. Tricked by this wolf in sheep’s clothing.”
But, I only act like this with someone I like. Souji thought to himself.
“What’s wrong? Doesn’t Airi like it?”
“I do…” She looked down shyly and asked softly, “Souji-kun, do you like children?”
“Why do you suddenly ask that?” Souji was taken aback.
“Before, I thought it was terrible to be born into the god incarnate family, having to offer my blood every night until my life faded away, like my father who died young. I didn’t want my descendants to bear the same fate, so I had no desire to marry and have children.”
“So… does Airi want children now?”
“Yes, I don’t have to perform the exorcism ceremony anymore, so I suddenly feel that having a child with a partner isn’t a bad idea. But it’s no longer possible, right?”
She smiled slightly sadly, causing Souji’s heart to ache. He stroked her hair, comforting her:
“We’re not of age yet, isn’t it a bit early to think about this? In the future, we can consider the orphans in the North Yaba Charity as our own children. It’s no big deal.”
“Souji-kun really wouldn’t mind?”
“How could I? Besides, Airi’s body before the transformation was prone to heavy bleeding, so pregnancy would have been too much for her.”
Thinking of her past near-fatal blood loss, Souji felt a pang of concern.
“Mm… thank you.”

After lunch, with nothing else to do, they decided to take a walk in the woods at the foot of the mountain.
However, just before leaving, Airi entered the weapon-storing room and stared blankly at the empty sword rack.
“Um… where’s my sword?”
Souji remained silent. The sword had been broken on the night of the inner ring’s disaster. He found its broken blade and abandoned sheath while searching for Airi.
Reluctantly, Airi sighed, “It’s okay, the sword was probably given to the new person in charge of the exorcism ceremony. It’s fine to practice archery instead.”
Souji watched in surprise as she donned protective gear, took an arrow quiver, and removed a bow from the wall.
