Chapter 13: Chapter 13
The guard was acting weird. He kept checking behind him to see if anyone was watching or listening, but I was curious to know what he was planning. I badly wanted to know what was on his mind right now.
He heaved a sigh. "Promise you won't tell anyone I told you this. I trust you, and I know you won't spill this to anyone."
"Shoot already. Please tell me," I said desperately, wanting to know what the issue was all about. What was this secret he was hiding?
"We are starting up a plan. There are a few others who want to leave this place too, so we became a group and planned how our escape will be," he said in the lowest voice.
I gasped. "What if they get caught? You know Nicholas is brutal, and he might find out. What if somebody amongst you tells him? This is his house; there must be spies around."
He shook his head. "I understand where you're coming from, but about anyone finding out or anyone spilling the beans, you have nothing to worry about. It's under control," he said to me.
I was still worried because I didn't know how this group worked. I hated to admit that Nicholas might kill them when he finds out that something like this is going on in his house.
"The question is, are you willing to join?" he asked, looking dead serious about this plan.
"How many are we so far?" I asked.
He smirked. "Seems like you're ready to join, because you just said 'we'!"
I heaved a sigh. "I want to be out of this place more than anything else. I have no idea where Adrianna is. I don't even know if he killed her already. She's innocent in all of this."
I was almost in tears, and then he pulled me into a hug. I tried to push away from him because someone might think there was something between us, and worse, there were cameras around the house.
"I just want her here with me so we can leave. What if I leave and she's still held captive?" I asked, fearful.
He held my face and said, "You don't have to worry about that. I'll help you confirm. I haven't found anything tangible about her, but I promise you this: I'll find her for you."
He was so kind and loving.
"Thanks for understanding me. You don't even know me, but you're so kind to me," I thanked him.
He chuckled. "I don't really like seeing you in tears. There's something about you that makes me want to help you out."
I blushed. "Aww, thanks."
He chuckled. "So, what are you doing after this?"
"Why? You have something for me?"
He chuckled. "I heard the boss's girlfriend is around. She's terrible, so I would like you to stay far away from her."
It was as if he already knew I've met her . The woman can be something else . I wonder how the boss cope with her . She isn't that good looking as people say . I mentally rolled my eyes . Maybe I'm only being jealous right now .
Then I realized that I needed to answer the questions asked .
I said "Yeah, we almost had a clash with her. She talks rudely, and I hate people who are rude," I said with a look of disgust on my face.
"Don't you worry? I'll help you out anytime you need me. I know this is difficult for you to digest. The fact that you're in this place might seem like a nightmare to you."
I nodded. "More than a nightmare. There's nothing I want more than to leave this place. I'm sick and tired. I have good grades at school and can get a good job for myself, but here I am, wasting that to become a maid and get talked down on."
"Just be a member of our group, and then you'll be out of here. Soon, we'll discuss our escape plan."
I nodded and was eager for this more than anything else. I wanted to be out of here before I lost my mind. Nicholas was making me lose my sense, and I hated that. I felt some type of way I shouldn't be feeling. I couldn't be having feelings for the man who kidnapped me and the man who might have killed my best friend. I couldn't do that to Adrianna and myself.
"I'll take my leave now. I'm to take turns with my colleague by the gate," he said, and I nodded for him to leave. He waved as he left.
I heaved a sigh, not realizing I had been holding it. I was alone here again. Maybe I should go back inside. I need to sleep, by the way. I've been having difficulties sleeping. From what I heard earlier, there might be another party, and I'm not ready to be feeling drowsy while working.
I headed inside through the back door. For some reason, I didn't want to cross paths with Lucia. I've learned that we'll only fight if we see eye to eye, because I won't let her insult me for another second. But wait! If I should follow through the back door, that means I'll have to pass through Sir Nicholas's room. What do I do?
He should be downstairs, my subconscious said, and I decided to follow my mind. Yes, they should be downstairs eating. I went ahead through the back door.

I walked down the hall as I passed through Nicholas's room. I didn't hear any noises from his room. From what I noticed, he doesn't allow any visitors in his room. Since I got here, he doesn't bring his...women home. They must have a specific meeting point, I guess.
Just when I thought I was free from getting caught by him, I heard him call my name. "Amber," he called again. I had to pause, and then my heart began to race again.
