Trapped in Paradise

Chapter 29

Chapter 29: Good Person?

As a counselor, it’s pretty normal to browse around the dormitory building.

But Ning Chu suspects this guy is just using that as an excuse; he’s actually on the hunt for female prey in the girls’ dormitory.

“If something is broken in the dorm, go get a warranty slip from the dorm manager. Generally, someone will come to fix it within a week.”

“If you have any issues in your life or mentally, just ask me. You can private message me directly in the group.”

Han Jingye always has a gentle smile on his face, his tone soft, and his face looks harmless. When checking dorm cleanliness, he feels less like a teacher and more like a friendly neighbor dropping by.

He casually wandered around the dorm and then lifted his head to scan the bed, smiling as he asked, “Whose bed is this? Look, they know how to make their bed; now look at you guys.”

The three roommates all turned their gazes to Ning Chu at the same time.

Ning Chu was stunned, glancing around aimlessly: “Ah? I just got up way too early and was bored, so I made the bed…”

He really didn’t want to have anything to do with this counselor.

It would be best if he didn’t leave any impression on the guy—so much that when they meet again, he wouldn’t even remember his name.

“Ning Chu, right? The one who fainted during military training last Monday?”

The students outside the dorm burst into laughter.

“……”

“What are you laughing at?” Han Jingye turned his head and glared at the students at the door, then nodded gently at Ning Chu: “That’s good. I’ll go check the next dorm. You guys tidy up a bit, remember to eat breakfast, and don’t be late for military training later.”

Ning Chu expressionlessly replied.

He hated people like Han Jingye, who seemed harmless on the outside but were quite twisted inside—a total hypocrite.

And then there’s Zhang Shaoqing, who was straightforward, and even before turning into a villain, was already disliked by everyone.

Maybe it was his slightly cold and rejecting attitude, but Han Jingye frowned slightly, scrutinizing him from head to toe.

He was quite a handsome boy, with his military training shirt tucked neatly into his pants, looking sharp. However, he appeared quite thin, the waist as delicate as a willow branch.

He had no idea what made this student hate him.

Without thinking too much, Han Jingye maintained his friendly and approachable smile as he headed to the next dorm. Upon opening the door, he was greeted by a student making egg tarts in an oven… he was almost unable to hold his smile.

“Whose electric stove is this? And a microwave and oven?! You treating the dorm like a kitchen, huh?!”

Wow, the dorm next door really knows how to live!

Separated by a wall, Ning Chu clearly heard the counselor’s furious shout.

“Ning Chu, let’s go. Time for breakfast.”

“Coming, coming!” Ning Chu quickly followed Wen Yang out, his face full of envy, “The next dorm really knows how to live~ Cooking for themselves and cheaper than the cafeteria.”

“Hard to say. Once they get used to it, they’ll probably end up cooking for ten people.”

“True.”

While chatting about the next dorm with Wen Yang, Ning Chu’s mind kept flashing back to Han Jingye’s “smiling face.”

This counselor really seemed quite responsible.

He didn’t get angry about the dorm cleanliness; he just gently reminded them. But he was furious about the safety issue next door.

Previously, he only saw the kind and sunny side of the counselor; he had initially thought he was just a hypocritical jerk. But now he saw the counselor losing his temper over power safety issues, making the counselor’s image more three-dimensional.

Is there a possibility that this counselor is actually a good person?

What does that have to do with me!?

Right now, it’s already a headache trying to keep the villain and the protagonist from going off track, and now there’s a counselor? He can’t just split himself in two!

Stick to the previous strategy, let Wen Yang focus on the counselor. If he figures out any evidence, strike first!

In an ideal scenario, if the counselor ends up in trouble, no female students would be harmed.

Arriving at the cafeteria, Ning Chu dashed to the small supermarket to buy a bottle of iced cola, sitting down beside Wen Yang.

“Aren’t you eating?”

“I had breakfast in the dorm, some bread and milk I bought last night.”

He tilted his head back to take a swig of cola, burping happily, then turned to his side, pondering how to subtly bring up Han Jingye.

“The counselor seems pretty popular in class?” Ning Chu pretended to be casual about it.

“Seems okay?” Wen Yang only bought two big buns and a bottle of mineral water; his breakfast compared to the other students was a bit meager, but he didn’t care. He continued, “From what I’ve seen these past few days, he seems nice, but you don’t seem to like him?”

Although he didn’t like him, he sure seemed overly concerned about Han Jingye’s situation.

“Did he offend you before?”

Ning Chu stammered, unsure how to explain.

He considered telling Wen Yang about the plot involving Han Jingye in the book for help, but thinking it through, Wen Yang wasn’t an idiot. There’s no way he would just believe him from a single sentence.

And besides, Han Jingye looks normal right now…

“Well, not really. I just find his smile a bit fake and feel a bit annoyed.” Ning Chu hesitated and continued, “He left me with a bad first impression.”

Wen Yang nodded and, while eating, said, “I think he’s a good guy, really attentive. He’s even researched the family backgrounds of the classmates.”

“Looked into backgrounds?”

“Yeah, the school’s subsidy applications are for impoverished students. A few he turned down were all from families doing well trying to cheat the system.”

Ning Chu was more confused than ever.

Could it be that the counselor really is a good person?

Seeing him lost in thought, Wen Yang helplessly advised: “Don’t judge people by first impressions. Just look at Shaoqing with his yellow hair, acting all silly, who’d know he’s actually a joker?”

“He’s just a joker…”

Ning Chu yawned, not thinking too much, planning to list the counselor as a long-term observation target.

Glancing at the time, it was almost eight o’clock.

“Time for military training.”

That was the real headache right now!

He slouched over, lifeless, on the table, thinking about the daily morning three laps of jogging and half an hour of physical training. His legs started trembling at the thought.

“I want to call in sick and just lay in the dorm with the air conditioning~”

Wen Yang finished his breakfast and stood up first, looking down at the limp Ning Chu: “Just hang in there; just this week, and it’ll be over.”

“The weather forecast says it’s going to rain today; why do we still have military training~”

Ning Chu followed dejectedly behind Wen Yang; military training always left him feeling utterly drained, and by the evening, all he could think about was resting and sleeping.

“Looking at the sky, it might rain, but look at that horizon.”

Hearing this, he suddenly perked up, following Wen Yang’s指向 to the distant skyline.

That thick cloud made him a bit too excited.

“Looks like! At least it’s going to pour! There’s definitely no military training today!”
