Volume 1 Chapter 215: A Chance Encounter
The single-room rentals outside the school were mostly small motel-style monthly rentals.
The price was fairly cheap—one bedroom, one bathroom, equipped with air conditioning and internet, move-in ready. Rent was 400 yuan per month, with a 200-yuan deposit.
But at the end of the day, they were still motels. With people constantly coming and going, security was a concern. The walls were thin, and utility costs were high.
“Doesn’t seem great… it’s not safe.”
Walking out of one such motel, Wen Yang shook his head with a sigh.
Ning Chu frowned. She had lived in a similar rental before her transmigration, and the experience had been terrible. It really wasn’t safe.
Late-night drunkards causing trouble and getting into fights—while not a daily occurrence—had happened a couple of times. And the paper-thin walls… Well, let’s just say she had often been “treated” to the sounds of beds banging against the wall and girls moaning and gasping in pleasure during a certain baby-making activity.
A cheap motel was fine for a night or two, but staying for a whole month? That was absolutely unsuitable for a succubus.
“Are all the other places like this too?”
Wen Yang, standing in the chilly night breeze with only a short-sleeved shirt, remained unfazed. He scanned the rows of low-rise buildings and nodded. “Yeah, most of the rental options around here are like this.”
“There are pricier ones, though—self-built houses or private apartments. A one-bedroom unit runs around 1,000 yuan a month.” He had already done his research on the area. “The tenants there tend to be more stable, so they’re a bit safer.”
“One thousand…”
Although her mother had given her 2,000 yuan for rent, with the deposit and upfront payment, plus utilities, it still wouldn’t be enough.
Ning Chu frowned, glancing back at the motel they had just exited.
“Should I just go with this one?”
“I’ve earned some money from my part-time job, so getting a safer place won’t be a problem.”
Hearing his objection, she looked up at him. “Hmm… safety, huh?”
Wasn’t the safest place right next to Wen Yang? With his protagonist aura, no matter what happened, he could always handle it.
The only problem was that while he could ward off external threats, Wen Yang himself was a threat.
“Why are you looking at me like that?” Wen Yang touched his face, suddenly feeling very tempted. “Are you saying… we should live together?”
That would basically be cohabitation.
That was way too fast! As an inexperienced guy, his excitement levels skyrocketed.
“Let’s check out a few more places first.”
Ning Chu was still hesitant and wanted to compare a few more options.
Back when she lost control last time, Wen Yang had restrained himself—but things were different now. Back then, they had only been in an ambiguous stage. Now, they were officially a couple.
Just as she was about to head to the next motel, a car suddenly pulled up to the curb. The window rolled down, and a familiar voice called out:
“Wen Yang!”
The moment she heard that voice, Ning Chu’s face went completely pale.
She didn’t dare turn around.
She didn’t dare run, either.
She stood frozen on the spot, pretending not to hear, but her face—visible only to Wen Yang—was filled with silent pleading.
If it were any other classmate, she wouldn’t be this flustered.
But this was her dormmate!
And she had just been acting intimately with Wen Yang.
Even if people discovered she was actually a girl, she absolutely did not want Zhang Shaoqing to find out about her relationship with Wen Yang.
That would be way too embarrassing!
Wen Yang remained calm as he pulled a face mask from his pocket and handed it to Ning Chu. Then, he looked up and asked, “What are you doing here?”
“I should be asking you that! Weren’t you out delivering food?”
Zhang Shaoqing pushed open the car door and stepped out with a grin, walking toward Wen Yang. “Damn, are you secretly on a date? What class is she from?”
“From another school.”
Wang Jie also got out of the car, playing on his phone, but his eyes kept glancing curiously at the girl standing beside Wen Yang.
“Hey, what’s your girlfriend’s name? She looks a little shy.”
“Uh…” Wen Yang quickly tried to come up with a fake name for Ning Chu. His mind spun for a second before blurting out, “Wen Wen.”
“That sounds kinda familiar… I think there’s a Wen Wen in the class next door?”
“Nah, just a coincidence.”
Ning Chu had already put on the mask, but the exposed skin on her neck and earlobes had turned bright red. She did her best to stay composed, turning her gaze toward Zhang Shaoqing as calmly as possible.
There was no avoiding this encounter, so she could only hope Zhang Shaoqing wouldn’t notice anything suspicious.
The familiar pair of peach blossom eyes made Zhang Shaoqing pause for a moment. His gaze swept over her from head to toe. The hem of her oversized coat extended past her skirt, making her look even smaller and cuter in comparison.
“I’m Wen Yang’s roommate, Zhang Shaoqing.” He introduced himself, then pointed to Wang Jie. “Wang Jie, also our roommate.”
Ning Chu gave a small nod and then, playing the role of a shy girl, lowered her head and hid behind Wen Yang.
Even though she was already wearing a mask, it was still better to act cautious and keep her face hidden as much as possible.
Zhang Shaoqing leaned closer to Wen Yang, throwing an arm around his shoulders and whispering, “She’s really your girlfriend?”
Without hesitation, Wen Yang wrapped an arm around Ning Chu’s waist. “Yeah!”
“Damn! You got a girlfriend behind my back? Traitor!”
“Hey! Perfect timing! You guys haven’t eaten dinner yet, right? Let’s go for BBQ!” Zhang Shaoqing thumped his chest. “I’m buying—gotta celebrate meeting my new little sister!”
“It’s ‘sister-in-law.’”
“Nah, ‘little sister!’”
At that moment, Wang Jie suddenly remembered something and chimed in. “Shouldn’t we wait for Ning Chu to come back before eating?”
Ning Chu almost teared up.
Her roommate still remembered her!
“Wait for what? Who knows when Ning Chu will be back.” Zhang Shaoqing waved them off. “Let’s go!”
He slung an arm around Wang Jie’s shoulders, chatting as they walked. “I dunno, man, Wen Wen kinda looks like Ning Chu. Especially the eyes.”
Both Wen Yang and Ning Chu immediately tensed up.
“Even their height seems similar…” Zhang Shaoqing turned back to glance at Ning Chu again. His gaze lingered as he muttered, “The more I look, the more they seem alike…”
Keeping her face stiff, Ning Chu deliberately pitched her voice higher and asked, “Who?”
“Oh, just our other roommate. Kind of a sissy—really annoying.”
“…”
She clenched her fists, her fingers tightening instinctively.
When it came to “outsiders,” Zhang Shaoqing really had no sense of discretion!
“But he’s actually a good person. Aside from being a little nosy… he;s basically our dorm leader. If we ever need anything, we just go to him.” Zhang Shaoqing laughed. “That guy’s like a mom. Back when I had a breakup, he even came to comfort me.”
“That wasn’t a breakup,” Wang Jie pointed out blandly. “It was just unrequited love.”
“Screw you!”
Ning Chu’s fists loosened slightly.
Seeing that Zhang Shaoqing hadn’t really caught on, she relaxed a little. Imitating how other girls acted, she reached out and wrapped her arm around Wen Yang’s.
Wen Yang wasn’t used to this kind of gesture from her. He could faintly feel the soft curve of her chest pressing against him. Startled, he glanced down, meeting her smiling gaze. Lowering his voice, he asked,
“You seriously wanna go eat? How are you gonna eat BBQ with a mask on?”
Her smile froze.
“Wen Wen isn’t going. She still has to find a place to rent,” Wen Yang said helplessly, speaking on her behalf.
“Huh? But I mainly wanted to treat her,” Zhang Shaoqing blinked.
“Next time.”
“Fine then. I’ll call Ning Chu and see when they’re getting back. It’s already past eight or nine—they should be near the school by now, right?”
“!!!”
Panicking, Ning Chu quickly shoved her hands into her coat pockets and switched her phone to silent mode.
The next second, her phone started vibrating.
That was close!
