Back to School
"Wow, Daddy, You have been enjoying yourself," Gloria said with heavy condemnation. She was smiling and looking me over like she did sometimes, and I saw her lick her lips. "I wouldn't have imagined it from you. You Slut." She said, her voice clearly teasing, and I couldn't help but chuckle and roll my eyes.
"It is literally part of my abilities, and I have to. You know how hard it is to be an Illusionist too?" I asked her, "I literally have to make the syllables like a song and sing them into being. It is very annoying, but I find it a little fun. The song must be with a certain depth, and it seems the smarter the person, the more they fill in the holes in my Illusions." I told her, "Now, It is your turn, missy. Tell me about your class."
My eyes bore down on her, and Gloria smiled brightly, "I am an assassin. It has been a lot of fun playing by myself, but it can also be a little boring," Gloria sighed, "You taught me about being patient and waiting for the right moment to strike. It has taught me a lot, though. Poison and alchemy around positions I think I will take up when I can in the game. The crafting system sounds so complicated in this game, like you said. But it is so damn interesting that I cannot hold back my want to try it out." Gloria said, "But Assassin is my type of gameplay overall. I love waiting for that exact moment when the enemy is weakest and coming in for that one hit that kills them. It reminds me of," She shook her head, "It reminds me of things that I would rather not talk about."
I knew there was a dark part of Gloria that she struggled to talk about. It was something that I knew about not long after she joined my family. She was a troubled teen, to say the least, but I showed her that I loved her and just let her be herself. I showed her that she could excel, and I was so glad that she opened up and did.
Her mother and father passed away when she was young, and the file concerning them was sealed. And in typical American fashion, the file was destroyed in a fire a dozen years back. Now, I could not get the actual files, and something told me that their deaths were more complicated than just a car accident, with how Gloria acted occasionally. I never pried, and I let her open up to me on her own time.
"Honestly, the hardest part is staying silent and getting in position. Waiting in the dark for that one moment where the monster or creature I am waiting for is weakest and, BAM!" My daughter came in with her fist with a smile on her face, "Kill in one strike is my style, and I level up because I run alone. I am not sure how much better I would run in a group, but for now," Gloria shrugged, "I am part of the Assassin's Guild and the Adventurers Guild. Some beasts have targets painted on their back from both organizations. Double bounty for this one!" Gloria bragged, "So I have been doing good. But I have been operating without as much information as you have, Daddy," Gloria finished, and I nodded.
"That makes sense," I said, then I shook my head, "What time do you have to go back to school?" I asked.
"Eh!" Gloria puffed her cheeks then looked down sad, "Tonight, Honestly," Gloria said, "I want to stay longer, but I need to finish some homework and finish a project that I have almost completed. But I wanted to see you. I am still worried for you, you know," Gloria told me.
"Sorry," I said sadly, "Well, we can at least eat together before I send you back to school, right?" I asked.
"Of course!" Gloria said, and I got up, unlocking the office, knowing we had talked long enough for dinner to be ready.
"Dinner should be ready; let us go eat," I said.
We walked together. Gloria grabbed my arm with hers, and we walked into the kitchen with our arms linked. Li and Gabby were smiling, and Victoria was looking at us with a soft smile. I knew I needed to think of a punishment for her, but no good ones were coming to mind.
Gloria and the ladies talked about their experiences in the game world while I listened. Gloria didn't have much to say, but Gabby and Li were excitedly sharing what they went through. Apparently, The Blacksmith was finally starting to show some interest in Li, and Gabby got the attention of a jeweler inside the beginning area after completing a number of quests for them.
I was quite happy for them and expressed it as we continued to eat.
When all was said and done, though, my daughter learned about my new habit and smiled at me when she finished her dinner. "Daddy, I got to get going; I need to drive back to campus and get some sleep before class tomorrow and finish a project. I will be back to visit when I can!" She told me as she got up from the table, and I got up with her.
"Sure," I said, "You don't have to worry. I will be here, and you don't have to worry like you have been," I told her with a soft smile, "Just study and play some games. I will call more often," I told her before gathering her into a hug. "I will miss you though."
Gloria smiled, and I felt her go limp in my arms before hugging me tight.
"Mmm," Gloria replied, hugging me back as the others watched.
Then she headed out, gathering her things and taking off back to the university.
