Transmigration: The Peerless Immortal Husband

Chapter 209 - Unwarranted Calamity

After returning home, Yan Yuchen still felt that Yan Yuyin had been reckless: “You shouldn’t have said that. What if Mu Quan finds out something? It could cause trouble for them.”

Yan Yuyin laughed and replied, “What’s there to fear? If he finds out, it will make Mu Quan realize what kind of person he really is. Daoist Chang, so young, has already completed his foundation establishment. Who knows, he might become a Golden Core expert soon. What can Mu Quan compare to him? Even his older brother, Mu An, is only able to show off because he has a good master. Let him wait until he forms his core and comes out to flaunt it.”

Yan Yuchen furrowed her brows, still unable to relax: “That’s what a normal person would think, but is Mu Quan a normal person? He can’t even understand human speech. Never mind, I’ll go speak with the Third Elder.”

Yan Yuyin scoffed, not agreeing with her sister’s concern. If Mu Quan really dared to trouble Daoist Chang, it would be a perfect chance to bring Daoist Chang and Yan Yuchen closer.

Yan Yuchen found Third Elder Yan Xun and recounted what had just happened, as well as the potential trouble it could bring to Daoist Chang. Yan Xun smiled and nodded at her: “You little girl, if you like him, then pursue him boldly. Otherwise, you’ll regret it if they leave Jiangyun City, and it’ll be too late.”

“Third Elder,” Yan Yuchen said shyly, “I just have feelings for him, and besides, I’ve already said that I won’t marry anyone. Do you think Mu Quan will really cause trouble for Daoist Chang?”

Yan Xun stroked his chin thoughtfully: “I’ll have someone keep an eye on it. Mu Quan is arrogant and unreasonable, so you can’t measure him with common sense. But don’t worry, I’ll be watching. Daoist Chang and the others are our guests, and the Yan family won’t just sit back and let it happen.”

“That’s good, now I can relax,” Yan Yuchen sighed with relief.

Meanwhile, at the Mu family…

Mu Quan impatiently looked at the information that was sent to him and pushed it aside, saying, “Just tell me directly, which fool dares to steal my woman? I’ll kill him!”

The attendant quickly replied, “According to the information I gathered, a few foreign cultivators returned together with Sister Yan’s group after their training trip. It was revealed that Miss Yuchen seems to have some affection for a cultivator with the surname Chang. However, it might not be serious. After returning to the city, the group did not stay in the Yan family’s guest courtyard. They separated once they entered the city, and we haven’t seen Miss Yuchen meeting with any of them in the past few days.”

“Hmph, just a few outsiders. No matter how bold they are, how dare they steal from the young master?” Mu Quan sneered. “But since they crossed paths with me, go, clean up those outsiders and deliver the message to that woman from the Yan family. I want her to know—anyone who touches her is making an enemy of me. There’s only one end for them—death!” Mu Quan said coldly, not even bothering to consider the foreign cultivators. After all, with the support of a Golden Core expert behind the Mu family, who would dare challenge them in this region?

The attendant hesitated, “But…”

“What? You dare not listen to me?” Mu Quan glared at him.

“No, no, I’ll send someone immediately to take care of it. Young master, please wait for good news!” The attendant quickly wiped away the cold sweat, fearing he might not see the next day’s sun if he delayed any longer.

“Good, now that’s more like it. Go ahead.”

Meanwhile, the four cultivators in the inn, unaware that they were caught in such a storm, were discussing where to go next. However, Chi Changye felt a sudden unease, as if he were being schemed against, sensing malicious intent heading their way.

“What’s wrong?” Gu Yao asked, looking at Chi Changye.

Chi Changye shook his head. “Nothing. Let’s go here next.” He pointed to a location on the map in front of them. “This area is inhabited by demon beasts. We’ll take over the territory and use the beasts there to practice. We can also use the spiritual veins there to meditate.”

The map before them had been bought from the largest store in the city, said to be the most detailed one available, though it only covered the territory of the Tailuo Sect, not the entire continent. It had cost them quite a few spirit stones.

The place Chi Changye pointed to was a mountain range outside Jiangyun City. From the information they gathered, several demon beasts at the Golden Core level were residing there. These Golden Core demon beasts would be suitable opponents for Chi Changye, while the rest could be handled by Gu Yao and the others. The pressure would help them grow faster.

Though they knew it would be dangerous, the three of them exchanged looks and nodded in agreement. “Alright, let’s go there. We’ll stay until we form our cores.”

Gu Yao thought to himself that he couldn’t hold Brother Ye back. His foundation establishment cultivation wouldn’t be much use, and Golden Core was only the beginning. To have a say in the matters of Changxian Sect, they would need to reach the Nascent Soul stage at least.

“Then let’s set off,” Gu Yao said. After they confirmed their destination, he didn’t want to delay any further. The life in Jiangyun City, filled with indulgence, would only lead to complacency, and that was not good.

Chi Changye nodded. The four of them packed their things and left the inn, heading toward the city’s outskirts, taking a direction opposite to their initial arrival.

The innkeeper had his own connections. Having received Mu Quan’s orders to deal with these foreign cultivators, he was initially hesitant about offending the inn’s backers. However, when he saw that Gu Yao and the others were leaving the inn and looked like they were about to leave Jiangyun City, he was pleased. This way, they could deal with the matter outside the city, avoiding any trouble with the inn’s backers. It was a win-win situation.

Yan Xun received the news. “They’re leaving the city? Has Mu Quan sent someone after them? That brat Mu Quan really has no regard for anyone. Keep following them, but don’t get too close. I’ll be watching personally.”

Yan Xun thought for a moment, then informed the family head and left the Yan family. Concealing his presence, he headed for the outskirts of the city. This was a good opportunity to observe Changye and the others’ strength more clearly. If they were struggling, he could step in and offer them a favor.

After Leaving the Inn

Not long after leaving the inn, Gu Yao furrowed his brows. “Are we being followed? Who could it be? The Yan family? Doesn’t seem likely.”

The Yan family had sent people to quietly observe their movements, and both Gu Yao and Chi Changye had noticed them. However, since they didn’t sense any ill intentions, they ignored them. But now, the people trailing them were doing so openly, without any concern about being discovered, and the looks they gave were full of malicious intent.

Chi Changye’s expression remained cold as he said, “No matter who it is, if they dare follow us, make sure they don’t come back.”

Gu Yao raised an eyebrow. “It seems the Yan family is following us too, but they’re staying far behind a different group.”

Tian Feirong and the chubby boy exchanged glances. This was getting interesting. Since arriving here, the only people they had interacted with were the Yan family, and they hadn’t offended anyone else. “Could they be trying to rob us?” Tian Feirong speculated. They had spent a considerable amount of spirit stones, so it wasn’t impossible that someone might try to take advantage. “Let them come. Whoever dares to rob us, it won’t be them deciding who gets robbed.”

The fatty boy was also eager to see how the cultivators from this continent differed from those from Tianlin Continent. The Yan family cultivators they met before were almost exhausted, and it was hard to gauge their true strength.

Despite knowing that someone with ill intentions was following them, the four of them did not change direction and continued heading out of the city.

The Mu Family

The head of the Mu family also received the news. After all, Chi Changye had demonstrated the strength of someone at the late Foundation Establishment stage, so the people they sent out had to be of at least that level. Such a personnel change couldn’t escape the Mu family’s notice. However, upon learning that the opponents were four foreign cultivators, he didn’t take it seriously. “Quan’er is really causing trouble. When will he learn from his older brother and be a bit more ambitious? That way, I wouldn’t have to worry so much.”

The steward standing nearby flattered, “What can we do? Young Master An is extraordinarily talented. With the family head around and Young Master An protecting him, it’s only natural that Young Master Quan would be a little proud.”

The Mu family patriarch smiled wider at the words. Of course, Mu An, his son, was his pride. What others didn’t know, he did—Mu An was currently in seclusion at Tailuo Sect, preparing to form his core. Once he succeeded and emerged, it would bring even greater glory to the Mu family. If Mu An could eventually become a Nascent Soul cultivator, the Mu family patriarch couldn’t help but tremble with excitement at the prospects.

With a Nascent Soul cultivator supporting the Mu family, what would Jiangyun City matter? As for the blessed lands of Qiandao Continent, the Mu family could choose at will. Thinking of this future, the Mu family patriarch was full of hope for his son. With such a gem ahead, he didn’t mind Mu Quan’s reckless behavior at all.

It was just a girl from the Yan family. Once the news of An’er forming his core spread, he believed that the Yan family would take the initiative to propose a marriage alliance. Hmph, that girl from the Yan family actually dared to look down on his Quan’er.

In the Mountains

After traveling several miles outside the city, the four of them entered a vast mountain range that seemed to stretch endlessly.

Once they disappeared into the mountains, the people following them appeared. Leading the group was a middle-aged female cultivator with a sharp, harsh appearance. She waved her hand and said, “Let’s go. We’re entering. A few kids, daring to offend Young Master Quan.”

“Yes, Hua Gu,” one of her subordinates replied.

Under Hua Gu’s lead, the group of over a dozen cultivators also disappeared into the mountain range. It wasn’t until some time later that a figure appeared in mid-air—Yan Xun, a senior elder from the Yan family. After he appeared, the Yan family cultivators who had been trailing them also revealed themselves, respectfully calling out, “Third Elder.”

Yan Xun furrowed his brows. He hadn’t expected that the Mu family had sent Hua Gu, who was known for her vicious nature, to lead the group. Once a cultivator fell into her hands, there was no hope of escape. With Hua Gu in charge, the Mu family clearly had no intention of letting the four of them survive. Not only had they not taken Changye and the others seriously, but they had also clearly underestimated the Yan family. Was Mu An the one who made the Mu family so arrogant?

“Let’s go.” The group quickly disappeared.

Not long after Hua Gu and her group entered the mountains, they lost track of the four individuals. They had to stop. Hua Gu’s face turned grim. “What’s going on? Did you lose them? Can’t even handle such a small matter? Do I have to step in personally?”

“Miss Hua…”

“Are you looking for us?” Suddenly, a cold voice rang out from above. Hua Gu and the others looked up, and saw the cultivator named Changye standing on top of a tree, looking down at them from above.
