Transmigration: The Peerless Immortal Husband

Chapter 148 - The Suspicious Mist

Facing the gazes of the others, Chi Changye spoke indifferently, “I’m no match for the demon beasts down there on my own.”

What he didn’t say was that if it were just him alone, he could easily venture down, perhaps even seize a few Blood Liuli fruits from the demon beasts. Even if they weren’t all defeated at once, he could escape without much trouble.

But with Gu Yao beside him and a group of hostile cultivators from the Changxian Sect around, the situation became much more complicated, with many variables, so he would not take the risk.

“What should we do now?” someone asked.

“Wait,” Chi Changye said, his hands behind his back as his gaze remained fixed on the mist swirling in the canyon. The mist was shifting ominously, carrying a strange, eerie aura.

In his view, the demon beasts were the true rulers of this land, more familiar with the environment than any of the outsiders, and they could fully utilize it.

With that one word, “wait,” everyone fell silent. Clearly, the right moment had not yet arrived. Since Chi Changye had not left, there was still hope, so the others simply had to be patient.

Gu Yao glanced at the mist, then at the Changxian Sect cultivators opposite them. He sent a sound transmission, “Brother Ye, are you waiting for the Changxian Sect to make a move first?”

Chi Changye’s eyes flickered slightly, and he responded via sound transmission, “As I expected, they will try to cooperate with me and take action against the demon beasts below. But I fear they’ll overlook you all in the process.” They likely only wanted to use his combat power.

Gu Yao slightly raised his head and said, “Don’t worry about me, Brother Ye. I have the kitten with me, and Senior Xu is here to assist from the side. We won’t be so easily dealt with.”

“Mm,” Chi Changye’s expression softened as he reached out to pinch the back of the kitten’s neck. He had originally intended to pinch Gu Yao, but halfway through, he changed his mind. He said, “Xiao Yao, do you notice anything unusual about the mist? I suspect there’s something odd about it.”

Gu Yao immediately became serious, quickly entering a work-focused state. He asked Chi Changye, Tian Feirong, and the little chubby guy to help gather samples of the mist, the rocks, soil, plants, and other microorganisms from the cliffside. The others watched in confusion, including the cultivators from the Changxian Sect across from them, who also seemed puzzled.

“Master Ning, what is that Alchemist Gu doing? What is he using? It looks strange and unusual,” someone asked Ning Hui. Since they were both alchemists, he should know something about it.

Gu Yao’s custom-made instrument was something even Ning Hui had never seen before. In fact, not even a master like Xu Chen had encountered it before, only seeing it when Gu Yao used it.

But just because he didn’t understand it didn’t stop Ning Hui from trying to mock, “Who knows what kind of tricks he’s playing. Just with those useless people on his side, do they think they can compete with us for the Blood Liuli fruit?”

Luo Huaijing remained silent with a dark expression, but another cultivator who had reached the Foundation Establishment stage suggested, “Should we go talk to Chi Changye and ask him to join us in dealing with the demon beasts down there? If he joins us, our actions will be much smoother. I don’t believe he’s not interested in the Blood Liuli fruit.”

Ning Hui gritted his teeth. The temptation he had offered earlier had been ignored by Chi Changye, but then he thought that it might be a good idea to involve Chi Changye. He could see who would protect that “Master Gu” when the time came. When the Blood Liuli fruit matured, that’s when the real chaos would begin, and it would be interesting to see if “Master Gu” could protect his own life.

With this thought, he felt a little more at ease and agreed, “I think it’s a good idea. What about you, Brother Luo? What do you think?”

Luo Huaijing coldly glanced at Ning Hui. With his status, he didn’t need to flatter Ning Hui. The Changxian Sect wasn’t just about one alchemist like him. “Since you’ve decided, you can go ahead and talk to him yourself,” he said.

Luo Huaijing noticed that Chi Changye had been watching the mist in the canyon intently and began to suspect. Could there be something unusual within the mist? Gu Yao and the others were collecting samples from places covered by the mist. Could it really be true?

After losing to Chi Changye previously, Luo Huaijing had been unwilling to admit it. He thought Chi Changye had taken advantage of the situation. However, after Chi Changye killed several of the Changxian Sect’s Foundation Establishment cultivators, Luo Huaijing was finally forced to acknowledge Chi Changye’s strength.

Even this sword cultivator hadn’t arrogantly gone straight into the canyon. What did that indicate?

“I’ll go and discuss it with Daoist Chi,” a cultivator stepped forward and said. Luo Huaijing didn’t object, and Ning Hui nodded in agreement, signaling his support.

The first thing Gu Yao needed to do was determine if the mist contained any toxins. When the cultivators from the Changxian Sect approached, the concentrated mist in the transparent vessel in his hand suddenly began to churn, subtly leaking a strange black-purple hue. Although it was faint, it was still noticeable.

Chi Changye’s gaze sharpened. It seemed his judgment was correct; the mist itself harbored danger. If they recklessly descended into the canyon without precautions, who knew what would happen. As for the ones who had previously entered the canyon and then escaped, the real situation remained unclear.

“Just as you said, Daoist Chi, luckily you were cautious enough,” Gu Yao said. “Let me see if I can find a way to deal with it.”

Chi Changye nodded, and Gu Yao, with the vessel in hand, quickly entered the tent that Tian Feirong and the chubby boy had set up for him. The other cultivators from Tianlin Continent kept their eyes on their movements. Although they couldn’t hear the details of their exchange, the changes in the vessel gave them some clues. When they looked toward the canyon again, their eyes held more caution. Some of them even gasped in cold realization, thankful they hadn’t recklessly descended earlier.

A cultivator from the Changxian Sect hovered in midair on his flying tool. Though he hadn’t understood what was happening before, he now vaguely guessed something. His pupils narrowed, but he still needed to make his intentions clear: “Daoist Chi, how about we cooperate and explore the canyon together? As for the Blood Liuli fruit, we can each rely on our own abilities to obtain it.”

“When do we move?” Chi Changye asked in a deep voice, his hands behind his back.

The cultivator felt a surge of joy in his heart, as it seemed Chi Changye had agreed. Indeed, no one could resist the temptation of the Blood Liuli fruit. He clasped his hands and said, “It will take about two more days. The Blood Liuli fruit will ripen by then, and all the surrounding spiritual energy will be drawn in. That will be the right time for us to act.”

“Good,” Chi Changye responded.

“Haha, Daoist Chi is straightforward,” the cultivator laughed. “I’m Ying Muqing. Let’s act together in two days.”

Chi Changye gave him a slight nod, signaling his agreement. Ying Muqing then flew back to where his group was waiting.

Without needing to say more, the other cultivators from the Changxian Sect knew that Chi Changye had agreed. They couldn’t deny that with Chi Changye, the powerful fighter, keeping the demon beasts below in check, their actions would proceed much more smoothly.

Ying Muqing then approached Ning Hui and said, “Master Ning, is there any issue with the mist? I noticed that both Daoist Chi and the alchemist surnamed Gu seem to be cautious about it.”

Ning Hui had been paying attention to Gu Yao and Chi Changye’s actions as well. Although he was a little too far to hear clearly, he could still make out the changes in the transparent vessel. After thinking for a moment, he said, “You collect the mist for me, and I’ll take a look.”

“Alright, thank you, Master Ning,” the cultivator said.
