Chapter 118: Strength in the Shadows!
Cecelia's Strategy
Her eyes swept across the battlefield in a single, practiced glance, taking in every movement.
The first bear was slowing—its breathing ragged, its steps heavy. Rea's strikes are wearing it down.
Linden's opponent was still fast, weaving in and out of their attacks like a shadow. Too mobile… hard to pin down.
And the third bear… the one she faced… its gaze was locked on her, its muscles tense, ready to spring.
She could feel the sting of her earlier wounds, but she knew—injured or not—she was still dangerous.
"I need to break their rhythm before they overwhelm us."
Cecelia's knees bent slightly as she leaned against a moss-covered rock, her breath coming in short, heated bursts.
Sweat trickled down her temple, and her arms felt heavier with each passing second. The constant clash against the bears was draining, and her mana reserves were running thin.
As her right hand brushed against the ground for balance, her fingers bumped into something smooth and cool.
She glanced down—and there, half-hidden under a patch of leaves and dirt, were two small glass vials. The liquid inside shimmered faintly, one in a deep golden hue, the other in a rich crimson.
(Mana and strength elixirs…? Who put these here?)
She didn't have the time to question it, but a faint thought flickered—Kael. This was his kind of foresight, hiding supplies in case of emergencies.
No one else here even knew these were stashed in this spot.
Without hesitation, she uncorked the golden vial and tipped it back. The thick liquid rushed down her throat like molten fire, filling her chest with an almost painful heat.
She quickly downed the crimson one after, the strength elixir burning its way into her muscles like raw lightning.
In an instant, mana roared to life inside her, swirling with renewed vigor, flooding every vein and muscle.
Her heartbeat thundered in her ears, her breathing grew deeper, steadier, and her aura burst outward in a radiant golden wave, rippling through the battlefield.
The bears reacted instantly. Their growls deepened into low, dangerous rumbles, their hackles rising as they sensed the sudden, dangerous shift in her presence.
"Switch!" Cecelia's voice rang out, clear over the chaos.
"Rea, take mine! Linden, finish yours with Moran's help. I'll handle the last one—alone."
No one hesitated, no one questioned. In battles like this, her orders were absolute.
The massive bear in front of her lowered its head, lips curling back to reveal jagged teeth. Its breath steamed in the cold air, each exhale carrying the heavy stench of blood and fur.
Then it lunged.
But Cecelia didn't retreat. Her boots dug into the dirt as she stepped forward instead, closing the gap.
Her right hand swept out in a sharp motion, and glowing runes flared to life in a perfect circle before her, spinning like a wheel of light.
"Luminous Bind!"
From the circle, golden chains of light shot outward with a whip-like crack, wrapping around the bear's thick limbs.
The beast roared and thrashed, muscles bulging against the magical restraints, but Cecelia clenched her fist and yanked her arm back. The chains pulled tighter, locking its movements for a heartbeat—just one precious second.
That was all she needed.
She sprinted forward, leapt high, and twisted in the air, flipping over the beast's head. The moment she reached its blind spot, both her palms came crashing down against its skull.
"Sunflare Impact!"
A concentrated explosion of light detonated on contact, the force blasting out in a golden shockwave. The bear let out a pained roar, stumbling and dropping to one massive knee.
Its head shook violently, but even then, it tried to push itself back up.
"You're stubborn," Cecelia panted, her chest rising and falling, "but so am I."
It lunged again in a desperate counterattack, claws slicing through the air with deadly speed.
Cecelia slipped to the side, her feet barely touching the ground as she pivoted. Her left hand flared with intense golden light, forming a razor-thin blade that shimmered like sunlight on steel.
"Radiant Edge."
She dragged the glowing edge across the beast's neck in one swift motion. The strike cut deep—blood sizzling against the light—but not deep enough to kill. The bear staggered back, momentarily dazed.
Cecelia didn't let it recover. She kicked off its broad chest, flipping backward and landing lightly on her feet. Her entire body glowed now, the light building to a blinding intensity.
"Radiant Burst!"
The energy erupted outward in a sphere of golden brilliance, engulfing the bear entirely. The force tore through its body, cutting its final roar short. With a heavy crash, the beast hit the ground, its massive frame lying still and unmoving.
Cecelia straightened slowly, her breath heavy, the fading glow still outlining her silhouette. The battle was over—at least for her.
The bear's massive body lay sprawled in the dirt, steam still rising from its scorched fur. Cecelia stood in front of it, her breathing steadying as the glow around her faded.
Her teammates gathered around, wide-eyed.
"Okay… how many skills does she have?" Rea muttered, still catching her breath from her own fight.
"I swear, every time I think I've seen her strongest move, she pulls out something new."
Moran gave a short laugh, shaking his head. "Skills aside, did you see how she handled that thing? No hesitation, no wasted movement. She's on another level entirely."
Linden, still wiping his dagger clean, glanced at Cecelia.
"Seriously, Cecelia—how can you fight something like that alone? I could barely keep my bear busy with help."
Cecelia's lips curved into a small smile. "It's because of my family," she replied simply. "I grew up fighting. Training like that stays with you."
For a moment, the group was quiet, taking in her words. Then Rea let out a chuckle. "Well, I'm just glad that I am on your side."
"Same," Moran agreed, tightening the straps on his shield. "Forming a group with you was the luckiest thing that's happened to me since coming here."
"No wonder you're a top ranker," Linden added, smirking. "You make the rest of us look like we're still in training."
Cecelia shook her head lightly, her smile warm but modest. "It's teamwork that wins battles, not rankings. I just do my part."
Still, as they moved on, every one of them knew the truth—her part had just saved them all.
