Chapter 38: Aftermath

[Congratulations! You have completed your mission to save the kids.

Reward 2: Complete healing]

Not believing what had happened, Ayame carefully approached the doctor and crouched. Her finger trembled as she put it under Dr. Milo's nose to check if he was still breathing. There was no air coming out. For the first time in years, Ayame's eyes sparkled again. They were finally free again, out of the doctor's control.

Still on their guard, Nikolai and Winter directed their attacks towards the two assassins. What were they going to do now that the doctor was dead?

"Since the doctor is dead, there's no need for us to fight anymore. Thank you for freeing us," Ayame said. Her lips finally drew a smile. A smile that Tetsuya haven't seen in years. Since the massacre of their village, they had promised each other to survive and find a chance to get rid of Dr. Milo. The day has finally come, and it was all thanks to the strangers before them.

Winter sighed in relief. She was almost out of energy. If they continued fighting, she wouldn't have lasted long. Her new ice ability takes a lot out of her energy. Remembering that Valentin was injured, she rushed towards him.

"How is your wound?" Winter worried. They should go to the hospital quickly or ask Ayame for the antidote.

Realizing that Valentin's wound had already healed, Winter gasped in surprise. She was sure that the judge was injured. Then, she remembered that Nikolai told her that Valentin had some kind of healing ability.

Valentin put a finger in front of his lips, telling Winter to keep it a secret. He didn't want many people to know that he had superpowers, too.

Hearing the ruckus, Ayame's gaze turned towards their direction. She stared at Valentin's thigh, where the wound was supposed to be. The wound was gone. How was that possible? She was certain that her vines had penetrated through his leg. Ayame sighed and decided to let the matter go. It wasn't her business. With the doctor gone, she had no reason to keep in contact with these strange people.

"Hum, what are you guys going to do now?" Winter asked cautiously.

"Don't worry, we won't hurt anyone anymore. We only did what the doctor asked us to do because we were controlled by him," Tetsuya assured her.

"We were thinking of taking over the doctor's company. In contrast with his research, the company is clean," Ayame added.

She had always dreamed of working in the pharmaceutical field. The doctor often used her for his research. With her ability, maybe she could help the company get to a higher level. The only problem would be to explain the doctor's sudden disappearance. But it shouldn't be too hard, since the doctor is rarely seen in public.

"I hope we can get your support," Ayame said to the judge. If she were to do more research, she would need a lot of investment.

"That won't be a problem. As long as you guys contribute to society's health," Valentin said. He was surprised that Ayame wanted to take over the company, since it was the doctor's. Didn't she feel any disdain towards the company? Well, it wasn't his business, and he shouldn't have to worry about it. The TrustMed company had a good reputation for creating helpful and trustworthy medicine. The cost was also relatively good.

"Of course, we won't disappoint you and we won't hurt innocent people," Ayame promised.

"What should we do with the doctor's body?" Nikolai asked. He didn't mind taking care of it, since the man was the reason for all his miseries.

"Don't worry about it, we'll take care of it since it's in our territory. We'll make sure to clean all the traces," Ayame replied. Her eyes glinted dangerously. After all those years of torture, it was time for her and Tetsuya to get their revenge. They will make sure that the doctor's body won't remain whole, just like all those kids he killed.

A small hand tugged Valentin's pants and asked, "Are we going home now?" The kid didn't know what was going on, but it seemed like the villains had lost.

Valentin ruffled the kid's hair and reassured him, "Yes, we are going home now."

The judge made sure to count the kids again and asked Kaito to teleport the kids safely back home. A purple gate formed in mid-air, and the kids walked into it under Valentin's encouragement. The kids made sure to hug Valentin and thank him before they entered the gate. Receiving the warm hugs, Valentin smiled. These innocent little humans should be protected.

'Can you erase their memories?' Valentin asked the system. He was worried that some of the kids wouldn't be able to walk away from this traumatic experience. He was also anxious about what they would say to their parents. The world shouldn't know about the existence of people with superpowers, or else it would create chaos. The police would surely question the kids once they got home.

[Of course! The system approves of this idea.]

As each of the children got into their familiar home, they looked left and right, confused. Why were they in their houses? It seems that they have forgotten what happened before. Seeing their parents, they rushed into their arms and cried uncontrollably. They felt like it had been a long time since they had seen their parents.

The next morning, the kidnapped children were all over the news.

Good morning, everyone, this is the AA News. It has been reported that the missing children have been found. We still don't know the reason for their disappearance, but the police are working hard to find it.

The news was also announcing that there was a newly appointed CEO for the TrustMed company.

The renowned pharmaceutical company has appointed Ayame Kurohana as their new CEO. We are excited to wait for what the young businesswoman will bring to the company.
