Chapter 285: War Against Misty Palace
Time went by quickly and without realizing it, it had been three months since they had left the Framingburns forest.
At this moment, Ren and his underlings were already close to their destination.
If previously, the number of his underlings was one hundred thousand, now it was nearing two hundred thousand.
But even so, he didn't stop recruiting the magical beasts they encountered because most of his underlings were only at 1-star and 2-star.
While Ren and his underlings marched steadily toward Misty Palace, somewhere along the border between the Shoezica and Flugux regions, an attractive young woman was eating alone in a restaurant.
Even though her pretty face was hidden behind a white veil, many men still stole glances at her because her veil could not cover her beauty.
But despite her otherworldly beauty, none of them dared to approach her.
The icy aura radiating from her body made it clear that anyone who tried to flirt with her would die on the spot, so they only dared to steal glances at her, nothing more than that.
The name of the young lady was none other than Evelyn Faens, the young leader of Misty Palace.
Evelyn was not in Misty Palace because she was away on training, so she was not up to date with the latest news about her organization.
'I've already reached the border. I should rest today and continue my journey to the Flugux region tomorrow.'
She was not in a hurry, so she decided to rest first.
"Hey, did you hear the latest news? Countless magical beasts led by a dragon are about to attack Misty Palace," the mature man named Dilan spoke abruptly.
"I heard it!" a red-haired man named Alaric replied. "It's about the conflict between Misty Palace and that young man, right?"
"Are you talking about the young man named Ren Starfall?" a blue-haired man named Rowan joined the conversation.
"Yes." Alaric replied. "It's about that young man!"
Evelyn glanced at them when she overheard their conversation.
'Ren? Misty Palace?'
Despite her deep curiosity, she remained in her seat.
"Speaking of Misty Palace, I didn't expect them to be so cruel," a black-haired man named Jax joined the conversation as well. "Just because Ren killed their First Elder, they went as far as attacking Nightshire City and killing countless innocent citizens."
"They are the strongest organization in the Sheozica region and claim to be respectable organization, yet their actions resemble those of evil groups that bullies the weak and powerless." Dilan wore a disgusted expression as he spoke about Misty Palace. "If they didn't want their First Elder to die, then why did they send her to a war? Why not keep her safe inside their own organization? Do they really expect everyone to spare every member of Misty Palace?"
"That's right!" Alaric added. "Their First Elder lost in a fair fight against Ren, yet they went to Nightshire City to destroy it and slaughter the innocent citizens. If they wanted to avenge their First Elder, they should have gone after Ren himself, not his hometown. The fact that they didn't go after him right away makes it look like they are too afraid to face him head-on."
"I agree!" Jax replied. "I think Misty Palace is not as strong as the rumors say. They sent three elders to capture him, yet they still failed. Two of them even died in the process. Don't you think their elders are too weak for an organization that claims to be the strongest in the Sheozica region? After all, they lost three elders to a young man whose name we had never even heard before."
"But what disgusts me the most is that one of the elders used forbidden magic to turn him into a magical beast in her dying moments. Hmph! Respectable organization? They are more like an evil one, if you ask me!" Dilan didn't support Misty Palace because, in his eyes, Ren was the right one.
Evelyn stopped eating her food and glanced at them.
'The First Elder was killed by him? Three elders destroyed Nightshire City and killed countless innocent citizens?'
She found it hard to believe what she was hearing, especially the part where one of the elders used forbidden magic to transform him into a magical beast.
'But can that news really be trusted?'
She didn't believe the news immediately because in her view, her organization was not anything like what they were describing.
'I will contact master to find out about it.'
With that idea in mind, she left the restaurant.
Evelyn failed to control her emotions when her master confirmed the news was true.
Her pupils quivered and her body trembled in shock when her master said that the Fourth, Fifth, and Seventh Elders had indeed slaughtered innocent citizens of Nightshire City.
The teachers and elders of Misty Palace always said that innocent and non-awakeners should be protected, so why did they go back on their word?
Were all their words meaningless from the very beginning?
For the first time in her life, Evelyn was disappointed in her organization.
But even so, she could not bring herself to hate Misty Palace because it was her home.
"I did give them an order, but it was an order to capture him alive." Aurelia was also disappointed with them, but she could not do anything about it now because everything had happened.
"So, when is he going attack our organization?" Evelyn inquired.
"Based on their location, they will arrive in ten days. Evelyn, you don't need to return. Just focus on your training." Aurelia didn't want her disciple to defend their organization with them because it would make everything complicated. "Alright. I will end it here as I need to prepare for a war."
Evelyn clenched her fist after her master cut off the communication. She disliked her master's decision, but she could not blame her because she was the leader of Misty Palace.
"If only you had listened to me back then, Master…" she looked at the sky with a sad look because the two most important people in her life were about to fight to the death in ten days.
----
Time went by quickly and without realizing it, ten days had passed. At this moment, Ren and his underlings stood before the people of Misty Palace.
Even though their enemies had twice their numbers, the people of Misty Palace showed no fear because most of his subordinates were only 1-star and 2-star magical beasts.
"Aurelia, hand over that woman to me now and I will only take your place!" Ren had learned the name of Misty Palace's leader from the people he killed last month. "Otherwise, all of you will die here today."
"Do you think you will win the war just because you outnumber us?" Aurelia refused without thinking twice because giving in to his demand would turn them into a laughingstock.
"I see. So, you would rather let all your people die than sacrifice just one person, huh?" Actually, Ren had expected this because an organization like theirs would rather fight to the death than lose their reputation. "Since that's your choice… then you can all die here."
"Kill those damn humans!"
"Slaughter those filthy beasts!"
The war between them had finally begun.
