Transmigrated into the Apocalypse System: Death Games Begin

Chapter 21: Chapter 21: The Transmigration

Zack's POV

My heart pounded as I looked through my hands—nay— Ambrose's hands. I flexed my fingers, running them over my face, unable to fully comprehend what was happening.

This feels weird. I didn't know something like this could happen. I studied science for so long, and never have I ever thought of experiencing this.

So, if I am in Ambrose's body, who is in mine? my brows furrowed.

A sharp gasp from behind me stole my attention, making me look back. I saw myself. My body. Standing in front of me.

"I…uh… who are you? who's there?" I asked, confused.

"It's me, Ambrose."

"Damn," I cursed under my breath. I looked at him closely, studying him, analyzing him. Why isn't he panicking? Why does he look so calm for someone who had been transmigrated to another body?

"It feels different. Doesn't it?" Ambrose asked, tilted his head, smirking.

I swallowed, a lump forming in my throat. It did feel different. It was more than just inhabiting another's body. It's like something inside me had shifted…It made me feel more alive.

The moment I opened my eyes, it was as if my mind is trying to recall something just out of reach, something really familiar that I cannot point my finger at.

I forced myself to appear calm down and stay composed even if deep inside, my head was spinning with questions.

"How are you so calm?" I asked Ambrose.

"Because I've seen things you haven't. Well, not yet."

I narrowed my eyes. "What the hell is that suppose to mean?"

A flicker of something unreadable crossed Ambrose's expression. "You'll figure it out. Eventually."

Something in his tone sent shivers down my spine. My body—nay—Ambrose in my body, was watching me too closely. I realized we had never really talked and I haven't taken the time to know him more.

A throbbing headache shocked through my skull. As if trying to grasp something just out of reach. It was like a moment of deja vu.

My fingers twitched involuntarily.

Ambrose's smirk deepened. "See? It's starting."

I cannot endure the pain anymore. I held my head and fell on my knees. I saw flashes of a grand room full of people and computers, a wide screen or hologram, and me— talking to someone I don't know.

Is this Ambrose's memories? Can I see through him because we've switched places or… is this mine?

Then, suddenly, the pain went away. I pulled myself up, trying to brush off whatever happened to me.

Then, I saw Ambrose — still in my body, he was still standing in front of me.

"You are not just surviving these trials by chance, Zack. You were always meant to be here," Ambrose said, then walked away.

Ambrose's words left a strange weight in my chest. I wanted to question him, but before I could, movement from the corner of my eye caught my attention.

Arya's POV

My head was throbbing from the moment I was conscious. My limbs felt heavier, unfamiliar.

I pushed myself up with arms that didn't feel like mine. They were broader, firmer, I had scars in my body that I didn't recognize. I looked at my hands, it was longer and rougher.

So, it was true. The transmigration really did happened. But, whose body am I in?

I turned around and saw the mirror on the wall. Mark's face stared back at me. I am shook to my core. I blinked rapidly, expecting my own reflection to return, but nothing happened. I am still in Mark's body.

If I am in Mark's body, then where the hell is mine?

I looked around. Zack and Ambrose talking.

Then, I saw it. It was me, my body. It was moving as if just waking up, removing the helmet in my head and standing up.

Mark's voice—my voice—escaped my lips.

"What the-?"

I watched as my own eyes widened in horror, realization dawning just as it had for me moments ago.

A commotion erupted around us. Confused voices, gasps, curses. I forced myself to look, scanning the room.

Jake—no, Clark in Jake's body was staring at his hands.

Ellie—no, Nicole in Ellie's body had gone pale, slapping herself softly as if waking her up from a nightmare.

Zack was watching everything with an unreadable expression, with hands in his pocket. I recognize that look. Ambrose is in Zack's body.

Then, my gaze landed on Ambrose—except it wasn't Ambrose. It was Zack in his body.

A slow smirk played on Ambrose's lips—Zack's lips — before he titled his head slightly and said, "Well, this is going to be interesting."

Zack's POV

I tried to brush off whatever Ambrose told me. I have to focus on this stupid trial first, and figure that part out later.

So, what happens now that we have switched places? We can just all agree to go back to our real bodies, then that's it?

No. This trial is not that easy, there is something more to it. I looked around and I saw Nicole. She seemed like she was…happy?

Well, that's a different reaction I did not expect.

I walked near her, but did not make any contact. Just enough to listen to what she was telling herself in the mirror.

"Damn, I look hot in Nicole's body, I've wanted to look like this for a long long time" she said while touching her body, finger brushing her hair.

Interesting, my brows furrowed. Her, whoever is it in Nicole's body, her reaction wasn't just acceptance. It was satisfaction.

She didn't just feel comfortable in Nicole's body. She wanted it.

I turned my gaze to the others. Most were still adjusting, testing their movements, checking their reflections with varying degrees of horror or unease. But the woman on Nicole's body, was practically preening, tilting her head from side to side, admiring herself like she had just won the lottery. I knew that it was a woman because that's not how any of these guys talk or move.

So, this is all about it, huh? I exhaled sharply. This trial isn't just about switching bodies. It's about whether we all want to go back.

Before I could say anything, Anna — no, Ellie in Anna's body, spoke up.

"This isn't permanent, right?" she asked, looking around. "We'll switch back once we agree, right?"

Ambrose—still in my body—leaned lazily against the wall, watching, waiting. Just by looking around, I figured out a couple of things.

Mark is fidgeting his hand, just like Arya, which means Arya is in his body.

Arya tapping his foot on the floor when anxious is Mark's mannerism.

Ellie is not showing any emotion, her expressions almost unreadable, just like Nicole.

So, that leaves me with Jake, Clark and Anna.

I noticed that Jake is cracking his knuckles absentmindedly. A nervous habit I had noticed before. Clark did that when we met each other earlier. That means he is in Jake's body.

So, that means Jake is in Clark's body because I'm sure as hell he is not in Nicole's, which means Anna is in Nicole's body.

Then, as if on cue, the system's voice rang out:

[Reminder: Body Reversion is only possible upon unanimous decision. A single refusal means permanent entrapment.]

I shifted my gaze back to Anna in Nicole's body.

She was…smiling? A real, genuine smile.

"Well," she said, tilting her head while curling the end of her hair, "I guess we all have some decisions to make."

I watched her as she study herself in the mirror. That was when I knew this trial wouldn't be a simple as agreeing to switch back.

This is not going to be easy.
