Chapter 71: Nate's relatives
"You're here? Let's go to the second floor. Let's see if you are really as expert as you claimed to be," Treyton said.
The seller followed them upstairs, and Treyton called Samuel, who had stayed behind to act as a guard and, of course, to complete what he was doing in the past few days.
Treyton let Samuel be in charge of what to test the seller with and also assigned Yang to be in charge of answering and asking questions about the seller.
The two of them went to the room that Nina had already set up for them.
The second floor had three smaller rooms, but they were still all bare from the beginning without anything on them, just like the large space outside the three rooms.
The room was even smaller than the room they had temporarily lived in when there was heavy rain.
There was almost no space after Nina and the others put the bed in the room. Well, it's at least a bit better than just staying in the car. At least he could still stretch out properly.
"I'll sleep for a bit. Wake me up before lunch," Luciel said while lying on the bed.
"Oh, and charge the power banks and phones that we got a while ago," Luciel added.
"Huh? You're really treating me as a charger," Treyton said while lightly pinching his cheeks.
"What are you talking about? I'm just helping you train your abilities," Luciel said in defense.
"Really? But I already mastered how to do it, so I don't need to practice with charging devices anymore," Treyton said while looking at him with a smile.
"Even if you already mastered it, you still need to continuously so that you won't forget it. So, it's better to still continue charging all the devices that I'm using," Luceil said seriously.
"That's a good defense, so why don't you at least practice your ability or meditate for at least 30 minutes every day? If you do that, I'll continue charging all the devices that you are using," Treyton said while still smiling at him.
It seemed that Treyton was really concerned that his abilities wouldn't grow because they weren't seeing him practice his abilities or meditate to absorb the plant energies around him.
"My abilities are also getting stronger; no need to worry about it. In fact, you guys should learn my method instead of letting me follow you guys in meditating to absorb energies around you.
You guys should also learn to keep absorbing energies around you while you are doing something else. It would certainly be more helpful, especially if you need to continuously use your abilities," Luciel said.
"So, you are absorbing energies around you without needing to concentrate on doing it?"
"Of course, you still need to concentrate, but you can divide your attention to it while also doing something else."
"How did you do it?"
"Just do it as usual, but just do it together with other things. For example, while playing games, I could still continue absorbing plant energies around me.
Why don't you try practicing your abilities while also absorbing energy?"
"Ok, you can go to sleep. I will wake you up later. I'll try to do what you suggested," Treyton said and went to sit at the edge of the bed.
"I'll sleep for a bit; don't forget to charge the things I asked for," Luceil said and immediately closed his eyes so that Treyton couldn't say anything more.
Treyton really woke him up near lunchtime. When he went out of their room, he saw those who went out to look for Nate's relatives weren't back yet.
He also saw the gadget seller staying with Samuel assembling something.
"He wanted to stay?" Luciel asked.
"Yes, he wanted to stay. He is single, so he doesn't have anything to worry about aside from himself. He didn't care if he was going to stay here or anywhere else. He saw that our condition was good, so he decided to stay."
"I see."
If he didn't stay after seeing how good their condition was, he would doubt that he had a problem with comprehension.
"Are we going to wait for the others?" he asked again.
"No need, we can start eating first; they'll just eat after they come back," Treyton said and asked Nina to serve the dishes already.
After they ate, the others still hadn't come back. They only started returning an hour after lunch.
"You also didn't find anyone? Treyton asked Nathan's group, who had just returned.
"No, we already roam around everywhere in the eastern part of this settlement, but we didn't find anyone," Nathan said after drinking water and sitting on one of the sofas.
Nathan actually doesn't need to join the search; he just wants to go out but doesn't want to go with them. So, he volunteered to help with the search for Nate's relatives.
"There's also no one from the southern area, so they can only be in the north or west if you really hadn't just missed them in the areas you had searched," Treyton said while looking at Nathan.
"Hey! We really searched diligently. This place is really not a suitable place to live for a long time.
This place might have saved them when it rained continuously, but it should only stay as a temporary living area.
The place in the east is filled with people who didn't even have proper houses, and most of them only had a very thin roof that's protecting them from the weather.
Most of the people living there don't seem to have the drive to struggle to live properly.
The place was also very crowded already, so it is becoming a breeding ground for diseases.
We already saw a lot of people that had common colds in that area. With them crowding in the same area, it's very easy to infect other people who are also living with them," Nathan said while frowning.
"We can't do anything about the current situation, so don't think about it anymore. We can only remind them about it later, but I don't think they would even care to listen," Treyton said.
Luciel agrees with what Treyton was saying. They currently have no power to care for other people around them because they weren't even sure if they could successfully arrive at their destination.
They could indeed warn the people that were staying about the dangers of staying here, but most of them really won't listen because they had already realized the problem, but they didn't do anything.
Most of them were too afraid of the zombies outside, so they didn't want to move again, even though they already realized that staying where they currently were wasn't good.
Most of them were already forced to move where they were. They had already used up the courage they had when they transferred. After seeing and experiencing the situation outside, most of them probably used up all their courage already.
As long as they weren't forced to move again, or if they couldn't see anything that could ensure their safety while they moved, then most of them would probably stay in this settlement because they don't want to gamble their lives again and again.
Nathan wasn't able to reply because they heard hurried footsteps outside the door.
"Hurry up!"
"Be careful!"
Someone hurriedly opened the door, and Luciel saw Nate and the others carrying two teenagers with them.
The two teenagers with them were obviously heavily injured, as he could smell the heavy smell of blood as soon as they entered.
"Sir Nathan, please look at them!" Nate said.
"Put them in the left room," Treyton immediately said as he saw Nate and the others looking around for a place to put down the people they were carrying.
Nathan and the others immediately went to the third room to put down the two people they were carrying.
Nathan immediately followed to check the injured people. He and Treyton also followed to look at the situation.
When they put down the two teenagers, Luciel could see that the two teenagers had been slashed by a knife several times, and they were also bruised in different places.
The one that caught his attention was the teenager, who seemed to be Nate's nephew, as he looked exactly like the one he saw in the photo that Nate showed them a while ago.
Even though he couldn't see clearly because he was still wrapped in clothes. Luciel could still guess from the visible wounds that he was obviously sexually assaulted before he was slashed by a knife.
"Yang, Samuel, prepare some water," Nathan said while looking at the wounds of the two teenagers.
Their bodies were full of dirt, so Nathan couldn't just proceed with treatment without even cleaning them up.
"Nina, get some night robes if we have some."
"Wes, get my medical bag."
"Nina and Wes will stay here to assist me. The others should stay out of the room for the time being," Nathan said.
