Transmigrated into a Vampire System: Rise of the Blood Lord

Chapter 14: 14. The Echo of Screams

The night had never felt so suffocating.

Damian sat up in his bed, heart hammering against his ribs. The room was silent except for the shallow breaths of his roommates, but something felt off. The air was too still, too heavy, as if the walls themselves were closing in. He ran a hand through his damp hair, trying to shake off the unease creeping up his spine.

Then he heard it.

A whisper.

"Did you think I'd stay dead?"

His blood turned to ice. The voice was barely audible, like the wind slipping through a crack in the window. But it wasn't the wind. It was familiar—too familiar.

Ethan.

Damian swallowed hard, shaking his head. No. It's not possible. It's just my mind playing tricks. He glanced around the dark room. His friends were still asleep, their faces slack and undisturbed. Had he imagined it?

He lay back down, forcing himself to close his eyes.

But the whisper came again, closer this time.

"You should have killed me properly."

Damian bolted upright, a choked gasp escaping his lips. His breath came in ragged gulps as his hands gripped the sheets tightly. He turned toward the others, his throat dry.

"Did… did you hear that?" His voice was barely above a whisper.

Mason groaned from the other bed. "Hear what?" he mumbled, rolling over.

"The whispering," Damian said, his pulse pounding in his ears.

No response. The room was silent again.

Maybe he was losing it. Maybe the stress was getting to him. He took a shaky breath and rubbed his eyes. That's when another voice cut through the air.

"Do you remember how I begged?"

A scream tore through the dormitory.

It wasn't Damian. It wasn't Mason.

It was Daniel.

The boy shot up from his bed, eyes wild with terror. He clawed at his ears as if trying to rip something out of his head. "Shut up! Shut up! Shut up!" he shrieked.

Damian and Mason jumped up, their own fear forgotten for a moment.

"Daniel!" Mason rushed to his side, grabbing his arms. "What's wrong?"

Daniel was shaking violently, his pupils blown wide. His face was as pale as a corpse, drenched in cold sweat. "He's here," he whispered, his voice broken. "He's speaking to me… I heard him… I heard him!"

Mason looked at Damian, horror mirrored in his eyes. "What the hell is he talking about?"

Daniel's breath came out in shuddering gasps as he curled into himself. "Ethan," he whimpered. "Ethan's talking to me…"

Silence filled the room.

A beat.

Then another.

A low chuckle echoed from the corners of the dorm.

The blood drained from Damian's face. It wasn't Daniel. It wasn't Mason.

It was something else.

Something unseen.

Something that wasn't supposed to exist.

"Did you think you could get away with it?" The voice was a soft whisper, yet it rang through the air like a scream.

Damian staggered back, his entire body trembling. He felt watched, like something was lurking just beyond his sight, hidden in the shadows. His breathing quickened as his mind raced.

It wasn't real.

It couldn't be real.

But Daniel was sobbing now, rocking back and forth on his bed. "He's here. He's here. He's here…"

Mason grabbed his phone with shaking hands and turned on the flashlight, sweeping the light across the room. The beam cut through the darkness, but nothing was there. No hidden figure, no monster lurking in the corners.

And yet…

The voice still whispered.

"Sleep while you can."

Mason dropped the phone. Damian's knees buckled.

Daniel screamed again, covering his ears. "Make it stop! Please, make it stop!" His voice was raw, filled with a terror none of them had ever heard before.

Mason ran to the door and yanked it open. "We need help!"

Damian was frozen in place, his mind unraveling. His body felt like it didn't belong to him anymore, his skin too tight, his heart too loud. He tried to tell himself it was just a prank, that someone was messing with them. But deep down, he knew the truth.

They had buried Ethan.

But Ethan wasn't gone.

And he wasn't done with them.

Somewhere in the darkness, Ethan smiled.

He stood in the shadows outside their dorm, listening to their fear, their panic. He could hear their racing hearts, their ragged breaths. It was intoxicating.

The system hummed in satisfaction.

[Fear Points Accumulated: +500]

Ethan closed his eyes and let the energy wash over him. Every ounce of their terror made him stronger, more powerful. And this was only the beginning.

They had taken everything from him. His dignity. His life. His humanity.

Now, he would take everything from them.

Piece by piece.

Night by night.

Until they understood what it truly meant to be afraid.
