Chapter 294: Chapter 294: Battle
Welcome back, dear host.
A familiar light-blue translucent floating window popped up in front of the black-haired young man.
Hearing a voice in his head he hadn't heard in a long time, Hayashizaki took a deep breath and said with a sigh, "It really has been a while. I didn't expect you to get so cheesy."
"I missed you too, dear Commander."
He glanced around. The place where he appeared was exactly the rooftop of the tall building where he had set his anchor point before leaving. He was still wearing the white kimono Yukinoshita Yukino had given him.
Within his sensing range, powerful bursts of cursed energy were going off in the direction of Ginza in the distance.
"Looks like I made it just in time for the big fight." The cold winter wind blew as Hayashizaki smiled slightly. "Jumping straight from summer to winter… it's a bit hard to adjust."
The cold wind swept past and then died down.
The figure on the rooftop had already vanished, as if he had never been there.
...
Hundreds of curses released at once were almost all wiped out in moments by the black-haired girl. Yukinoshita Yukino's ruthless efficiency in killing surprised Kenjaku, who was standing atop the Seiko clock tower.
He quickly began directing the curses to spread out to other areas instead of being wasted in the shopping plaza.
If the girl kept killing like that, no matter how many curses he had, they wouldn't be enough.
At this level, you can't beat a sorcerer just by throwing a huge number of curses at them.
What's more, that black-haired girl had mastered the Gojo clan's technique—and not only that, she could use it however she wanted. Forget trying to drown her in curses. Even if Suguru Geto released every curse he had except the two that were as powerful as war and death, they still couldn't break through her defense.
"The Limitless technique… used to this degree? Don't tell me she copied the Six Eyes too?" A trace of curiosity and desire flashed through Kenjaku's eyes as he looked at Yukinoshita Yukino.
Techniques that copy other people's abilities are rare, but over his long life, Kenjaku had seen quite a few. The most recent was Okkotsu Yuta, who he met a few years ago.
But someone who could even copy something as rare and unique as the Six Eyes? That was a first.
Although Kenjaku's own technique could do something similar, it wasn't really copying—it was taking over the body of a Six Eyes user. That's a different matter altogether.
"I really want to study what kind of technique that is. But… now's not the time." He turned his head toward Shinjuku, a slight grin on his lips. "Time to get back to work."
"Don't let me down, curses."
A black Uzumaki appeared behind him. He turned and stepped into it. As the Uzumaki closed, his figure vanished completely.
...
After taking down the last curse in sight, no more curses appeared from anywhere.
The enemy seems to have given up on attacking regular civilians.
Slightly out of breath, Yukinoshita Yukino looked up and turned her eyes toward the Ginza landmark not far away—the Seiko Clock Tower.
Earlier, while she was in the middle of exorcising cursed spirits, there had been a strong burst of cursed energy from that direction. But it disappeared just as quickly as it appeared.
"So the enemy really did leave, huh?"
Yukinoshita Yukino looked away. There was no point chasing now—she wouldn't be able to catch up. Besides, she didn't even know where they had gone.
I'll leave it to someone else.
Mr. Gojo should be on his way too, so there's no need to worry too much. What matters now is getting the civilians out of here.
Just then, Yukinoshita Yukino's phone suddenly rang.
She pulled it out of her pocket and answered, "Hello? Mr. Ijichi? What's going on?"
"Miss Yukinoshita, Mr. Gojo thinks the enemy might be planning something. He wants you to stay put and wait for a Grade 1 sorcerer to arrive before you—"
Before Ijichi Kiyotaka could finish speaking, the black-haired girl cut him off.
"It's already over."
"Huh?" The voice on the other end clearly froze. After a long pause, he spoke again, sounding confused. "What do you mean it's over?"
"The cursed spirits in the plaza—I've dealt with all of them," Yukinoshita Yukino replied truthfully. "The enemy seems to have left. They might have gone to another area, so please stay alert, Mr. Ijichi."
"Ah? Oh... okay. Got it."
Ijichi Kiyotaka hung up, still sounding a little dazed.
Didn't Mr. Gojo once say he'd spread the word that Miss Yukinoshita defeated him and became the strongest? Back then, everyone thought he was just trying to confuse the enemy.
Could that have been true?
Meanwhile, after hanging up, Yukinoshita Yukino walked toward the gathered crowd and said, "Everyone, it's dangerous here. Please leave right away."
They had all seen her fall from the sky moments ago. Only a few of the civilians could actually see the cursed spirits, but those few had also seen how quickly the black-haired girl wiped them out.
Most people couldn't see the curses or the sorcery, but the destruction left behind was impossible to ignore.
They looked around at the shattered windows, the deep gashes and cracks on the walls and ground, and they started to realize that what this powerful girl said was true.
They quickly scattered, not even curious enough to stick around and watch.
After all, nothing is more important than staying alive.
Seeing that no one was stupid enough to linger, Yukinoshita Yukino let out a small sigh of relief.
Then, she looked down at her phone. She opened her contacts and called the person pinned at the top of the list.
As the dial tone rang, the black-haired girl pressed her lips together. For some reason, she suddenly felt nervous—like there was a wild animal jumping around in her chest. Her heartbeat was so loud it drowned out all other noise.
Even when she'd faced Gojo Satoru before, she hadn't felt this tense.
The moment the call connected, Yukinoshita Yukino quickly spoke up, "Hey…!?"
But before she could say anything else, she suddenly looked up at the night sky.
Up above, a small, bright light was streaking across the darkness like a falling star, heading straight toward her.
A sharp, piercing whistling sound followed.
Then came a huge explosion and a burst of fire, along with a deafening roar.
