Han YunXi felt unusually warm.

He turned off his phone, trying to preserve what little battery remained in case they needed the flashlight later.

Han YunXi nestled back into his arms, and HuMing instinctively held her close again.

"HuMing… are you going to take advantage of me?"

The words floated up from the darkness, and HuMing let out a helpless sigh, resting his chin lightly on her head.

"Right now, staying still is our best bet. If we preserve our strength, our odds of surviving go up."

"I was joking~" Han YunXi chuckled lightly.

But as she lay there in his arms, a question stirred in her mind. A rare chance like this—she might as well ask.

She thought it over seriously, then asked:

"HuMing, you ran into Sister XiaoXi and Ye QiuXue in JingDu, right? Which of them do you think is better?"

"They both have their strengths. There's no saying who's better," HuMing replied naturally.

"But… you know they both like you, right? So if you had to choose, who would you pick?" Han YunXi was genuinely curious—but also had some thoughts of her own.

It was said so plainly, so calmly, that the air in the cave seemed to freeze.

Han YunXi's mind went completely blank. She stared into the dark, unable to process what she'd just heard.

She reached out and felt his forehead—no fever.

"I'm not joking, I mean it."

"They agreed to it. They know exactly how things are."

He sounded so honest it almost made it worse.

Was honesty just… out of fashion now?

HuMing felt wrongly accused. When did being a sincere guy stop being a good thing?

The more Han YunXi listened, the harder it was to accept. She furrowed her brows, voice quieter now:

"Are you really not messing with me? Those two… they're basically dream girls—walk them down any street and they'd have people lined up after them. Why would they agree to something like that?"

"Maybe it's just my irresistible charm?" HuMing said, with rare shamelessness.

But Han YunXi found it hard to digest.

Silence fell.

HuMing couldn't tell what she was thinking. Lately, she'd felt… different. Ever since the last incident, she hadn't called him "brother" even once. He knew why. And she'd become clingier, always trying to prove herself in front of him.

It made him start to wonder—could it be…?

Before he could think deeper, a sudden tremor shook the cave.

HuMing instinctively pulled Han YunXi close. She spun around and hugged him tightly.

In the pitch-black dark, the two of them were drawn even closer—neither noticing how near they were.

Fortunately, this aftershock only lasted about a minute before the cave settled again.

HuMing exhaled and comforted her, "It's okay. Just an aftershock."

Han YunXi opened her mouth to reply, but paused—she could feel it now. Hot breath, so close it brushed her face.

HuMing wasn't doing much better. Ever since he'd held her, he'd been fighting it—trying to distract himself with conversation.

But now… with her face so close… they were just a breath apart.

Desire surged inside him, almost reflexively.

He dipped his head, drawing even nearer. And Han YunXi, eyes half-lidded in the dark, could feel the warmth too. Her small face tilted upward. She knew she should move away—but for some reason, her neck wouldn't turn.

Her feelings for HuMing were murky, hovering in the space between confusion and something like affection.

But with everything that had happened, she decided to trust her instincts.

The two of them stayed pressed close, neither speaking. And then again, that heat—that breath—so near it melted thought.

Han YunXi's eyes fluttered shut. Her lips parted slightly, tongue darting out to moisten them.

HuMing's self-control couldn't be called bad—it was very, very good.

But he was still a man.

And he liked the girl in front of him.

He hesitated.

Then he leaned in and kissed her forehead.

But he couldn't stop.

Next was the tip of her nose.

Time froze.

In the darkness, her long lashes trembled. Her hands gently looped around his neck.

And her mind… felt like it was catching fire.
