Chapter 5: Chapter 5: The Sleeping Little Dragon Has Water to Drink
As the first rays of sunlight streamed into the off-road vehicle, Kanna finally woke up from her deep slumber.
Upon waking, she found herself in the arms of a kind grandmother figure.
Outcast, seeing the little cub wake up, smiled faintly, then carefully supported Kanna's head so it wouldn't be bumped by the vehicle's jolts.
Meanwhile, Misery, sitting in the front seat, noticed Kanna had woken up.
Unlike Outcast, who had fully relaxed, Misery instinctively tightened his posture.
As a Sarkaz, he had encountered many mysterious Source Stone techniques. Although Kanna appeared to be a child, who could say if she truly was just a child?
After all, just thinking of the old monsters in the royal court, each with their own cryptic abilities, or the high tower sorcerers obsessed with forbidden spells, some of whom might have developed techniques to shrink and extend life, made him suspicious.
The reason, of course, was that he couldn't believe a young girl could survive alone in the desert—a place where even a fully equipped squad couldn't last long.
"Would you like some water, little one?" Outcast asked, taking a cup of water from one of the squad members, shaking it slightly before offering it to Kanna.
"Mm? Awoo!"
Still groggy from sleep, Kanna instinctively extended her head when she saw the cup of water.
Then, to everyone's surprise, she immediately took the cup from Outcast's hand and placed it in her mouth.
The other operatives, seeing Kanna's actions, tensed up and were about to pull Outcast's hand away from her mouth.
Outcast stopped them, feeling that Kanna had stopped moving after taking her hand into her mouth, as if she had realized she made a mistake.
Sure enough, Kanna opened her mouth and let Outcast's hand go.
As the attention shifted from Outcast's hand to Kanna, everyone saw her gazing at Outcast with teary eyes.
"Sorry! Kanna just wanted some water. Kanna didn't mean to bite you… Kanna doesn't eat people…"
At this moment, Kanna's heart was utterly distressed. She hadn't expected that after being reborn as Kanna, her physical and mental states would merge. Otherwise, her "waking-up grumpiness" wouldn't have led to such a mistake as putting someone's entire hand in her mouth just to drink water.
"You're called Kanna? Such a lovely name… But how did you end up in that cave? Where's your family?" Outcast gently petted Kanna's soft hair and asked with a kind tone.
"Mm~~~ Kanna doesn't know!"
Kanna couldn't explain how she ended up there. After all, "Dragon Maid" and Terra weren't from the same world, so after some hesitation, she decided to use her ultimate loli tactic—acting cute to distract everyone.
Seeing the little cub in her arms furrow her brows and struggle to come up with an answer, Outcast felt both helpless and amused. Whether Kanna was trying to hide something or truly didn't know, Outcast had already decided that if the little cub wasn't a threat to Rhodes Island, she would take her back to the island as her mission.
After the "waking-up grumpiness" passed, Kanna became fully awake. She looked around and realized she was inside a moving vehicle.
Curious, she climbed over to the window and gazed outside. Even though she had been in this world for ten days, this was the first time she observed the landscape with a sense of wonder, longing for something beautiful. Most of her time before had been spent either hunting for food or spying on the battles happening around her.
