Chapter 24: The Pink Frog Meets the Young Dragon
At that moment, a door suddenly opened, and a pink-haired girl stepped out of the room.
Seeing Kanna standing not far from the doorway, she couldn't help but let out a surprised gasp.
"Huh~?"
This was one of the more secluded areas of Rhodes Island, home mostly to residents who preferred water and quiet surroundings. Children on the island rarely ventured here. Seeing an unfamiliar child, she assumed the little one must have gotten lost after recently arriving.
She was about to reach out and call to Kanna but suddenly withdrew her hand, as if reconsidering something. Instead, she walked to what she deemed a "suitable" distance, crouched down, and met Kanna at eye level.
"Little one, are you lost? Do you need big sis to take you back?"
Meanwhile, Kanna was absolutely thrilled. It's Blue Poison! I can't believe she's actually on the island!
As a key member of the famous Rhodes Island meme painting Blue Poison & Warfarin's Doctor, Blue Poison had won over countless Doctors with her excellent character design and story. Coupled with her solid combat prowess, she had always been a fan favorite.
To meet her in person today? Kanna couldn't help but feel her luck was incredible.
Before Blue Poison could react, Kanna had already dashed forward and grabbed her hand.
"Eh? Huh? Ah! Wait, I—"
"Hello, big sister! I'm Kanna! Kanna is amazing! And I'm a newly recruited operator too!"
As she spoke, Kanna puffed out her chest proudly, making sure Blue Poison noticed the operator badge hanging from her neck.
Due to a certain "talent" of hers, Blue Poison often found that people were afraid to get too close to her. But deep down, she was just a young girl who wished for more interactions and conversations with others. Unfortunately, those efforts rarely paid off.
Now, with someone suddenly holding her hand so eagerly, she found herself at a complete loss for what to do.
After a brief moment of flustered panic, Blue Poison took a deep breath and calmed down. She took a closer look at Kanna's badge, confirming that it indeed displayed Kanna's face.
She then recalled hearing from some passing operators that a new little girl had recently joined Rhodes Island as an operator. Since she was unfamiliar with most of the children on the island, this must be the one they had mentioned.
"So your name is Kanna… That's a really nice name. You can just call me Blue Poison. But Kanna-chan, this place isn't really a good spot for playing. How about I take you to the rest area? There are lots of other kids there."
Despite knowing that Kanna was technically an operator, Blue Poison still couldn't help but see her as just a child.
"Dame! Dame yo!"
Kanna raised both hands above her head and made an "X" shape in refusal.
"But there are a lot of patients here," Blue Poison reasoned. "If Kanna is too noisy, it might disturb their rest, and then they won't be able to recover. You don't want to be a bad kid, do you?"
If one strategy failed, she'd try another.
"Kanna won't be noisy! Kanna just wants to look around. If you don't believe me, big sis, come explore with Kanna!"
Kanna wasn't at all upset—she understood that Blue Poison was only worried for her safety. Instead, she enthusiastically took Blue Poison's hand and started leading her further inside.
Realizing she had no way to talk Kanna out of it—and that her hand was firmly held with no chance of breaking free—Blue Poison could only sigh in resignation and walk alongside her into the passage ahead.
The deeper they went, the quieter it became. The air grew heavier, and the atmosphere more oppressive. Unlike the rest of Rhodes Island, which was kept dry and well-ventilated, this area was damp and humid, making it feel somewhat stifling.
No wonder hardly anyone aside from the residents ever came here.
