Transform into a magical girl after getting off work

Chapter 142 Melting

After restricting the movement of the Remnant Beasts, Cornflower slightly sensed her current Magic Power Consumption and stopped measuring, no longer using the ability of the ruler magical equipment.

What she was facing at the moment was a Half-Molt, whose magic power was far deeper than that of the average Remnant Beasts. Hence, the consumption when using abilities on it was much higher. Simply immobilizing the opponent initially had already occupied nearly forty percent of her output.

She did not plan to allocate the remaining sixty percent of her output to the ruler's ability because achieving this current degree was already sufficient. If this Remnant Beast could not come up with any other capabilities, it was almost impossible to escape the restrictions of the magical equipment.

So, would this Half-Molt be at the end of its rope?

An unshakable dangerous premonition told Cornflower that it probably wouldn't.

From the moment she saw this Remnant Beast, she had always had this premonition. It was the same when the Remnant Beast broke free from the cage, when it was chasing the two of them, and now, even though the Remnant Beast seemed to kneel to the ground, as if it couldn't counterattack anymore, the feeling persisted.

Probably due to this psychological pressure, Cornflower felt sweat trickling down her cheeks. She almost instinctively reached out and wiped it away with the back of her hand but paused immediately.

Sweat?

She repeated the word in her mind, looking at the back of her hand. The slight burning sensation was emanating from her cheeks and the back of her hand, and she could even see some tiny magic particles slowly rising from the places where she had wiped the "sweat."

If one were to ask whether magical girls could sweat, they actually could. Due to high-intensity activity and magic power usage, the body inevitably heats up. Partly to cool the body down, and also to align with the physiological habits of magical girls when they were humans, they could indeed produce sweat and tears.

However, for a magical girl to exhibit the "sweating" reaction, it must necessarily be an extremely high-intensity, consuming battle.

For Cornflower, since she encountered this Remnant Beast, the process of their tussle was indeed nerve-wracking. But until now, she hadn't used up much magic power, in other words, on the level of a magical girl, her body was still not "tired," hence there was no reason for sweat at this moment.

Then, what was causing this somewhat wet feeling all over her body?

"Cap... Captain, I feel something is not quite right..."

At this moment, Nina also spoke up, reminding her. Cornflower looked in the direction of Nina and found that her face too was covered in a sheen of moisture, looking rather wet:

"It feels like being suffocated in water."

Nina's words described exactly what Cornflower was feeling at this moment.

Even though they were still in the streets of Luennolay, Cornflower felt as if she was stepping in a marsh, or even a pool of water, sinking deeper. The moist and suffocating feeling continuously climbed from her neck upwards until it engulfed her whole body.

She had to deal with the Remnant Beast in front of her quickly.

In an instant, she made this decision and immediately unfolded her threads. But just as she was about to strike the already trapped Half-Beast, she witnessed an astonishing scene.

——The Remnant Beast, in continuous wriggling motion, shed its outer skin like molting.

The term molting was not even accurate because that layer of skin, when falling off its body, could hardly be called "skin" or "shell" anymore, but rather a solid-liquid mixture like slime.

Its previously awkward wriggling was not useless struggling but an effort to "drill out" from the outer skin. Once it shed the skin that bound it to the ground, it naturally regained its mobility.

The mucus that had oozed from its body was now, like a faucet, continuously spilling and dripping from it, making it look like a leaking, shaky water pipe.

Seeing this, Cornflower could not let it make any further moves. She directly manipulated the threads, trying to transform them into blades to slice the Remnant Beast, which had lost the protection of its pupa shell. But even this plan fell through, as she discovered her threads turned flaccid before touching the Remnant Beast, like noodles soaked in water.

The noodle-like threads fell onto the Remnant Beast, but it quickly shook them off. They splashed to the ground, merging with the mucus.

The threads had failed.

This realization made Cornflower's heart sink.

The premonition of crisis now almost solidified into reality, forming an alarm in Cornflower's mind, desperately alerting her to some impending dire situation, and trying to direct her attention to something.

What had she overlooked?

Cornflower kept pressing herself to think, her eyes rapidly scanning everything around her: the mucus splattered all over the street and nearby buildings, the Remnant Beast continually oozing liquid like a broken water pipe, and herself and Nina inexplicably getting wetter and wetter.

Within this entire scene, it felt like there was a recurring keyword.

——Wet.

Yes, everything around was getting wet.

Since the Remnant Beast first broke out of the cage, this process had been ongoing. While chasing the two magical girls, it had been continuously sprinkling mucus around.

If this wetting process was only affecting it and the surrounding environment, it would be one thing, but now it seemed to have begun affecting Cornflower and Nina as well. Therefore, the nature of this behavior appeared to have a corresponding answer.

——This was its rule.

Although the concrete principles of this rule were not yet known, its effect seemed to be making things wet. And the liquid generated by this wetting process remarkably resembled the mucus from its body, both possessing considerable corrosiveness.

"Ah, Captain, Captain, my clothes!"

Cornflower could already hear Nina's screams. She glanced at Nina and saw her entire body becoming drenched. Amber-colored magic particles were constantly floating from around her, indicating that her magic body was being gradually corroded.

Of course, what Nina was most concerned about at the moment was something else entirely—her magic clothing was also getting corroded.

The originally thick-looking witch-style dress was becoming tattered, dripping water continuously, and tearing like a tissue soaked through with water, developing more and more holes.

Upon seeing this, Cornflower silently turned her head away, not continuing to watch Nina's plight, and instead looked down at her own clothes. Only then did she realize that her magic clothing, like Mo He, showed signs of corrosion.

However, this perhaps "indecent" scenario couldn't stir any sentimental emotions in Cornflower's heart at this moment, as her sight had already caught something even more alarming and rather grim:

Her hand was melting too.

A magical girl's body is mainly composed of magic power, so any issues with this power would inevitably reflect on her body. In this situation, even the slowest person should react and start realizing precisely what the Remnant Beast had done.

——Transformed magic power into corrosive mucus.

This was a part of the Half-Molt's rule.

It had long since employed its rule, sacrificing its body and pupa shell, turning them into mucus, using these fluids to achieve something more beneficial to itself:

Nest Building.
