Chapter 69: Chapter 70: Cai'er's Strength

Chapter 70: Cai'er's Strength

Paladin Han Qian had just returned from the Holy Alliance Auction House when he received a summons from Yang Haohan, the leader of the Holy Alliance.

The moment he arrived, Yang Haohan's grave expression made his heart sink.

A demon… in the Holy City?

And not just any demon—Sidi, the Love Demon God.

Cold sweat broke out across Han Qian's forehead.

He understood instantly. If a battle broke out in the city, the devastation would be catastrophic—especially with someone like Sidi, whose mere presence on the frontlines had once caused damage equivalent to a hundred thousand demon soldiers attacking a pass.

"I'll summon the six major temples and begin the investigation immediately!" Han Qian responded, rolling up the red-dotted map and hurrying out.

As he left, Yang Haohan turned to the golden Throne of the Guardian and Mercy Seal behind him.

His brows furrowed.

A bad omen is brewing…

For a year now, demon attacks had grown more frequent. The six passes faced small-scale battles almost daily, and large-scale ones nearly every week.

At this rate, the cost in human lives would be unbearable.

And now, the Love Demon God had infiltrated the Holy City—unnoticed.

Within moments, the entire Holy City was placed on high alert.

Guards filled every corner. Martial law descended.

---

At that same moment…

In the presidential suite, Ye Weiyang was still passed out from the effects of her drinking match with Lin Ze.

Meanwhile, Lin Ze and Cai'er stood close to each other—so close they could feel each other's breath.

Cai'er, her eyes clear and quiet, looked directly at Lin Ze.

Under her gaze, Lin Ze felt a rare bit of awkwardness.

He coughed lightly. "Cai'er… do you remember anything?"

Cai'er nodded.

Lin Ze exhaled in relief. Good. It worked.

But then he tensed. "Then… you should remember my identity too, right?"

At that, Cai'er's gaze shifted. Her hand reached for Lin Ze's, and she wrote in his palm:

"Why are you here? Where's Sister Sidi?"

She was clearly worried.

This was the heart of the six major temples. If Lin Ze's identity was discovered…

Her grip on his hand tightened.

She didn't want to lose him again—not so soon after they'd just been reunited.

"I joined the Moonlight Chamber of Commerce," Lin Ze explained. "I only just learned you were participating in the Demon Hunter Group Selection, so I came looking for you."

"As for Sister…" He scratched his head. "I… kinda snuck out. She doesn't know."

Cai'er puffed her cheeks in protest. His recklessness annoyed her, but her heart fluttered.

He came here just for me…

But worry still lingered.

She wrote again:

"This is the Holy City. We could run into a ninth-level expert. If they recognize you, we may never… meet again."

Before she finished, Lin Ze blurted: "Cai'er, are you mad at me?"

Cai'er paused. Her eyes lifted to meet his.

"I know it was reckless," Lin Ze continued. "But if you're worried about the tournament, I promise I won't cause you any trouble—"

Before he could finish, Cai'er tightened her grip on his hand—so tight it made him wince.

He blinked. Why is she so strong…?

Then he remembered—Cai'er was already close to the peak of the fifth level.

But before he could dwell on it, Cai'er suddenly stepped forward, rose onto her tiptoes, and kissed him.

Lin Ze froze.

A kiss?

His heart thundered in his chest.

Even though he'd kissed others before, this one stirred something deeper.

As he gazed into her eyes, Cai'er blushed deeply, her hand still in his.

She resumed writing:

"Why would I be mad? I'm just worried about you. With our strength… we can't change the world yet. Whether it's you coming here, or me going to the demon clan… it's impossible."

"But since you're here—I'll protect you. If anyone dares bully us, I'll beat them up!"

She raised her tiny fist with mock fierceness, though her eyes darted away in embarrassment.

Lin Ze stared at her, entranced.

"Cai'er…" he murmured, "I'm a little hungry…"

Cai'er's fingers twitched.

Her breath caught.

She'd heard this phrase countless times five years ago—almost daily.

Though nervous, she slowly closed her eyes and tilted her head.

Lin Ze didn't hesitate.

One arm wrapped around her delicate waist, the other brushed aside her hair, and he leaned down for another kiss.

She smelled faintly sweet, her body soft and warm.

Under Lin Ze's practiced touch (refined through his time with Yue Ye), even the hesitant Cai'er quickly melted into the kiss.

But deep inside, Lin Ze could still sense her fear—a fear of the Reincarnation Trial she was undergoing.

He wanted to ease her, to embrace and protect her completely.

Just as he leaned in deeper, Cai'er gently tapped his chest, pushing him back.

Breathless, she quickly wrote:

"I'm in the middle of the Reincarnation Trial. This is the final taste trial… If it's interrupted, I'll fail…"

Though her heart longed to stay with him longer, she knew the only path forward was through strength.

To stay by Lin Ze's side, she had to be stronger—strong enough to defy fate itself.

She had seen Bai Yue's tragic end.

She wouldn't let the same happen to her.

If the day came when Sheng Yue tried to take her away, she had to be powerful enough to stop it.

But how is Lin Ze… so good at kissing?

Cai'er's cheeks turned scarlet at the thought.

She was about to ask more when suddenly—

A rapid knock sounded at the door.
