Chapter 367: Jinx 2
The two continued drinking and chatted about work matters, casually discussing the recent situations of Moriyama Yasurou and Kazama Tatsuya.
The two of them developed a common interest and often went fishing at the seaside together. Watanabe Shun originally thought they were secretly dating, but upon checking, he found that they had no desire for the opposite sex in their eyes, only joy when the fish caught the hook.
After drinking for a while, Fushimi Roku felt it was about time to settle the bill and go home for rest. Watanabe Shun went to Sugamo Apartment along the way, parting in the elevator.
For Fushimi Roku, today was just an ordinary day.
He entered Minamoto Tamako's room as usual, greeted her, and naturally went to the bathroom to take a shower.
After finishing, Fushimi Roku didn't avoid anyone, wrapped in a towel, came out of the bathroom yawning and went to bed to sleep.
"Kochira Madayo!!"
Minamoto Tamako suddenly reached out and flipped open his quilt.
Fushimi Roku was startled, not knowing what Minamoto Tamako was up to. Luckily he was wearing underpants; otherwise, it would have been embarrassing.
"Why has the ghost claw mark on your body deepened?" Minamoto Tamako climbed onto the bed and carefully observed Fushimi Roku's body.
Fushimi Roku glanced down and found it indeed deepened a lot.
Previously, he thought it was too hot to sunbathe, plus he didn't want to 'recover' so quickly, planning to gradually eradicate it bit by bit;
Unexpectedly, during this busy period of being active at night, the Nue Poison relapsed, causing the ghost claw mark on his body to deepen again.
"Maybe I've been better lately."
Fushimi Roku pulled the quilt back over, casually fabricating, "Maybe it's because my physique is good, developing some resistance."
"Really?" Minamoto Tamako looked surprised, her eyes filled with hope, "Perhaps it's because you've been going out a lot, exercising daily, increasing your body's immunity..."
"No, no, no," Fushimi Roku lay on the bed, shaking his head, "That's not possible."
"Why not? The things you eat and drink are just the same, besides exercising, you're no different from usual!" Minamoto Tamako sounded more convinced, believing exercise aids detoxification and deciding to make Fujimura-kun exercise more in the future.
Seeing things turn unfavorable, Fushimi Roku coughed twice, showing a tired expression, and said, "Don't know why, but my limbs have become less obedient lately..."
"Ah?" Minamoto Tamako was startled, feeling like being on a roller coaster.
"Moreover, I went for a physical checkup earlier, the toxins in my organs haven't decreased; the doctor said my condition has worsened, perhaps the toxins are seeping from my organs outward..."
Fushimi Roku put on a 'I'm going to die' face.
Minamoto Tamako's heart sank again, she recalled Doctor Miyazaki's advice about Fujimura-kun being busy with 'secret missions' lately, leaving no time for taking him for psychological counseling.
Now it's time to schedule it, if not done in time, it wouldn't be surprising if Fujimura-kun suddenly died one day.
Minamoto Tamako checked the clock, it's 10 AM now. Fujimura-kun usually sleeps for eight hours and wakes around 6 PM; occasionally, he sleeps in for ten hours, waking around 8 PM.
"Well, are you free today between 6 and 8 PM?" she asked.
"What for?" Whether Fushimi Roku is free depends on what Minamoto Tamako wants him to do.
"Didn't we previously book Doctor Miyazaki's, um, end-of-life care? Money's already spent, missing it would be such a waste..." Minamoto Tamako spoke gently, trying not to make Fujimura-kun feel pressured.
"Ah~"
Fushimi Roku looked enlightened, recalling the unfinished shared dream experiment, he nodded, saying, "I happen to be free, let's leave when I wake up."
Having said that, he flipped over and covered himself with a pink quilt.
This bed was very soft, had a bit of fragrance, making him sleep soundly these days.
Seeing this, Minamoto Tamako didn't disrupt his rest, gently closed the door behind her, and left for work.
...
While Fushimi Roku was resting, Watanabe Shun just finished showering.
He had procrastination issues; after getting home he sprawled on the sofa watching TV for a while, only getting up to clean himself when he smelled bad, and itchy skin and scalp.
Afterward, Watanabe Shun felt bored, paged his drinking buddies to see if they wanted to go out.
He didn't need to work night shifts, and taking a morning shower was simply because he hadn't showered for three days and couldn't stand it anymore.
Today Watanabe Shun had no work, using the excuse of being on duty to slack off for a day.
After finishing his shower, his drinking buddies replied, some were busy with work, others were free. He arranged a place with those who were free, changed clothes, and went out.
Watanabe Shun drank from morning until after 7 PM, during which he watched a baseball game and viewed some action films at the video hall, then said goodbye to his drinking buddies, intending to wobble home when suddenly his pager went off.
The investigation department received a report; another drug addict was acting crazy by the river, chewing stones, requiring the officer on duty to catch and record them.
Watanabe Shun didn't want to bother, yet he was today's only officer on duty; other investigators were busy with drug busts.
Well then, slack-off time's over.
Watanabe Shun sighed, took a sober-up pill, and drove the police car to the report site, not daring to stop to greet while passing traffic police colleagues, just focusing on driving.
Over 20 minutes later, he arrived at the report site. Now, due to insufficient manpower at the police station, only one patrol police had arrived to assist.
The reporter was a vegetable-buying aunt passing by the river, who saw someone sneakily using their mouth to pick up stones under the bridge pier, recalling the news of drug addict attacks recently, she hurriedly reported via a payphone.
Watanabe Shun and patrol police Rokurou went to confirm the situation, turned off the siren and parked the police car by the roadside, checking the riverbank gravel, finding the bridge pier the vegetable aunt mentioned.
"Seems like there's no one here..."
Watanabe Shun looked around, wanting to get it over with, pretending not to see the suspect.
"Where! I see them!"
Patrol police Rokurou was proactive, eager for commendation before formalizing.
Watanabe Shun cursed unlucky, turned to look, seeing a man in a brown corduroy jacket by the bridge pier, mostly hidden in shadow, slowly writhing mysteriously.
Indeed looked suspicious, no wonder the passing aunt reported.
Watanabe Shun signaled with his eyes, patrol police Rokurou understood, instantly squeezed out a smile, playing good cop, approached greeting the man: "Sir! Sir, it's late, may I ask what you're doing here..."
As he got closer, the man abruptly turned, as if greatly frightened.
Watanabe Shun saw the man's face; he had glasses, a name tag on his chest, looked like an office worker. Before he could play bad cop, the office man jumped up, spread his arms mimicking bird wings, running and flapping away, making 'caw caw caw' sounds.
"..."
"..."
Watanabe Shun and patrol police Rokurou exchanged glances, the former shrugged saying, "Drug addicts are like that."
"Indeed, senior experience is rich, how do we generally handle this situation?" Patrol police Rokurou humbly asked.
"Cuff them, take them in, do a urine test."
Watanabe Shun was adept, pulled out handcuffs from his pocket, stepping up; patrol police Rokurou hurried to assist.
The office man seeing them aggressively approaching, 'caw caw'ed more vigorously, bent forward and extended his arms behind, posing like a diving bird, fleeing along the riverbank. If Fushimi Roku saw it, he'd think it was a Naruto run.
Watanabe Shun and patrol police Rokurou rushed after him, while the office man fled helter-skelter. The three dashed along the riverbank on to a path. The police yelled to stop, while the office man replied with 'caw caw caw' calls.
He fled, they chased. Unable to fly, eventually Watanabe Shun and patrol police Rokurou cornered him on the bridge.
