Tokyo: Rabbit Officer and Her Evil Partner

Chapter 358: Physical Examination

The sound of sirens came from the end of the street, red and blue lights pierced the night, and the Sugamo neighborhood became noisy.

The ambulance arrived first, the paramedics checked the injured, the drunk had no breath, the patrol police was still alive, but the bites on his face were quite terrible. The doctor quickly bandaged him to stop the bleeding, lifted him onto a stretcher, put him into the ambulance, and prepared to take him back to the hospital for further treatment.

Nakagawa Detective arrived at the scene, the forensics team put up a cordon, dispersed the onlookers, drew a white circle where the patrol police had been lying, and click-click took photos for evidence.

Minamoto Tamako and the housekeeper were both witnesses, but the criminal police couldn't stop the housekeeper, so they let him take Miss Mai and Miss Mayu home first, and then sought out Minamoto Tamako for a statement.

The latter vividly described the whole incident and repeatedly emphasized that the drunk's mental state was abnormal.

After listening, the criminal police didn't think there was much to investigate in this case. The drunk went crazy and attacked the patrol police, who shot him dead on the spot. The next step was just to follow procedure and contact the family.

Minamoto Tamako went to the hospital in the ambulance to get checked. Her buttocks were fine, just some sciatic nerve damage, no fractures, the doctor prescribed some medication, saying it would be fine with some rest.

After the check-up, she dropped by to visit the young patrol police, limping as she walked. It didn't hurt much; her thigh was just a bit numb.

The paramedics said there was no major threat to his life but he might be left with severe disabilities. The torn skin on the patrol police's face was very serious, with severe facial disfigurement and complete loss of facial muscle function. He might have difficulties eating and speaking in the future.

Minamoto Tamako felt deeply sympathetic and wanted to say a few words of comfort in the hospital room.

By this time, the patrol police had woken up, and upon hearing footsteps outside, he immediately turned his face away. Minamoto Tamako realized he didn't want to see anyone and left on her own accord.

On the way home, Minamoto Tamako kept thinking about this matter.

Was that office worker drunk, or was he high? How could he do something like that? Even after being shot, he continued to attack…

She had once seen a drug addict looking bewildered in an anti-narcotics campaign video: some addicts were so dazed they didn't react when approached, while others were extremely excited, almost mad. Drug enforcement police fired eight shots, nearly turning the addict into a sieve, and yet the latter was still lively, chasing the police with a fruit knife and shouting.

The footage was entirely from a law enforcement first-person viewpoint, leaving a huge psychological impact on Minamoto Tamako at the time.

Surely, Sugamo's anti-drug enforcement had slackened recently, with underground bars once again flooding with these contrabands. As a criminal police officer, it was necessary for her to maintain local security and thoroughly crack down and investigate contraband!

Lost in thought, Minamoto Tamako didn't notice the curb, and her leg didn't obey her, causing her to trip over the step and fall face-first.

She lay on the ground, not wanting to get up for a moment.

Tonight was truly full of misfortune. Minamoto Tamako felt she should follow the doctor's advice and only return to work after her lower body was well-rested. Otherwise, if she were left with any disability, she would have to say goodbye to her police career for the rest of her life.

But contraband couldn't be left for a day, so she considered calling the director to report this case and letting the director initiate an investigation to clean up Sugamo's filth!

Immediately filled with fighting spirit, Minamoto Tamako turned over, sat on the ground, and called the director. It rang for a long time, but the director didn't answer; she had to settle for the next best thing and called Chief Kikuchi.

The latter had just sent subordinates on a patrol and hadn't slept yet. When he received the call from Minamoto Tamako, he asked what it was about.

Minamoto Tamako truthfully reported the incident, explaining the cause of her injury, and then said: "...So I want to take sick leave…"

"Is one week enough?"

Kinosaki Shoujin was too lazy to listen to how her butt got hurt.

"Enough, enough, thank you, Chief!" Minamoto Tamako expressed her gratitude repeatedly, then changed the conversation and continued: "By the way, Chief, about the recent case, I suspect the deceased was a drug addict…"

"I know."

Kinosaki Shoujin impatiently interrupted: "There have been quite a few similar cases in the past two months. The department has already set up an investigative unit, coordinating with the anti-narcotics department to launch a special operation…"

"What? How come I didn't know?" Minamoto Tamako was shocked.

Could it be that contraband in Sugamo had already become rampant during this period? This was a serious matter! She didn't want to be attacked by strange addicts when sending Sakurako to and from school in the future!

"You're in charge of the records room, it's normal not to be informed."

Kinosaki Shoujin said this but thought privately: 'You've been preoccupied with that kid Fushimi Roku, you'd be lucky to know anything.'

"Are they all face-biting monsters?" Minamoto Tamako asked.

"What face-biting monsters?" Kinosaki Shoujin hadn't listened closely earlier, so he felt confused.

Minamoto Tamako had to explain it again, and after listening, Kinosaki Shoujin said suddenly: "Oh... almost."

"What do you mean by almost?" Minamoto Tamako felt he was brushing her off.

"They're all addicts with mental problems."

Kinosaki Shoujin rubbed his temples, quite annoyed: "One guy ran outside peeing everywhere, barked like a dog when caught, and howled non-stop during midnight; the patrol police went to his place but couldn't find him. There was another guy who mimicked parrots. At first, his family only thought he liked to imitate people, but later they noticed he tried imitating a parrot flying. One time, when his family wasn't paying attention, he jumped off the balcony…"

"Ah?" Minamoto Tamako asked, "Did he really fly?"

"I think you've also hit your head." Kinosaki Shoujin said: "That guy landed headfirst, didn't even protect his arms, and died on the spot."
