Chapter 355: Stars (Part 3)
The sky was already dark, well past curfew time. It was simply too dangerous to let a little girl go home alone, so Minamoto Tamako grabbed Mayu's backpack and pulled her back.
Mai poked her head around the other side of the entrance, and seeing Mayu caught, she quickly withdrew her head.
Minamoto Tamako noticed Mai and, pulling Mayu, entered the living room to see pizza boxes, burger wrappers, and some empty Coke bottles strewn all over the coffee table. Taira Sakurako was aiming a fan at the TV, likely trying to cool the screen.
"What did I say before I left?!"
Minamoto Tamako put on a stern face, calling the three elementary students over and making them stand in line for criticism one by one.
Their expressions varied.
Mai, the timidest, hung her head low, uneasily tugging at her clothes, looking as if she was about to cry;
Mayu, a bit more daring, but she wouldn't dare oppose her sister Tamako because Minamoto Tamako had already proven herself to be Nakagawa Detective. Mayu feared being arrested by the police, so she stayed silent, awkwardly smiling with her hands behind her back.
Taira Sakurako, on the other hand, was completely unconcerned, wearing a mask and pretending to listen while actually thinking about other things.
After finishing her criticism, Minamoto Tamako made them promise to reflect on themselves. The three of them simultaneously responded, admitting they were wrong, which finally eased Tamako.
"I'll walk them part of the way. As the big brother, you must properly educate your sister!"
Minamoto Tamako was careful not to speak too harshly. She took Mayu and Mai out, personally escorting the elementary students home to prevent any accidents on their way.
Once the three left, only Fushimi Roku and Taira Sakurako remained at home.
The two of them looked at each other, exchanging a glance. Fushimi Roku turned and walked away, seizing the sofa and picking up the remote, asking Jun to help turn on the TV.
He didn't care that Taira Sakurako was snacking on takeout, secretly playing games, and messing around with friends until late.
Having napped twice at the clinic earlier, Fushimi Roku felt refreshed, ready to play a couple of pixel games to relax—after all, to him, games from this era were all pixel games.
Unexpectedly, before he could talk to Taira Sakurako, she sat beside him and actively asked, "Don't you have anything to say?"
"There's hardly anything worth mentioning," Fushimi Roku said dismissively.
"Who'll take care of me if you die?" Taira Sakurako asked, wearing her demon mask.
"Why make it sound like debt collecting? Tamako will definitely look after you, and I believe you can take care of yourself too." With that, Fushimi Roku took a sip of the remaining Coke.
"Will your illness really not get better?" Taira Sakurako asked for confirmation again.
"Yeah."
Fushimi Roku wouldn't disclose his secrets to this sneaky little one. It wasn't like Taira Sakurako hadn't threatened him before; it was best to keep the detox story to as few people as possible.
Taira Sakurako was silent for a long time. She went back to her room, fetched a cookie box, and handed it to Fushimi Roku, saying, "I know you must have a way to solve this."
"Some things just can't be helped," Fushimi Roku replied halfheartedly, not even bothering to glance at the cookie box.
"I don't want you to die," Taira Sakurako said.
"I don't want to pay electricity bills either! I've said, some things aren't about wanting or not wanting..."
Before Fushimi Roku could finish his sentence, Taira Sakurako interrupted, "You want the stars from the sky, right?"
She opened the cookie box, revealing a meteorite from hundreds of millions of years ago.
"Now you have what you want..."
Taira Sakurako asked with a crying voice, "What about what I want?"
