Chapter 339: The Death of Fushimi Roku (Part 3)
The two of them took the elevator downstairs. Fushimi Roku waved and called for a taxi, telling the driver the destination.
The destination was the National Mental and Neurological Medical Research Center Hospital.
Minamoto Tamako immediately thought of the mother ape who had just entered their home (she had already labeled her as such in her mind) and questioned Fushimi Roku if the clue to the antidote was related to that woman.
"I knew there was something between you two!"
She squinted her eyes, sitting in the backseat of the taxi, crossing her arms as she questioned Fushimi Roku, "Otherwise, why would she specifically come to our house? And why specifically enter your room? You must be hiding something from me!"
Fushimi Roku knew about her persistent nature and decided to say straightforwardly, "Actually, you've met her before."
"Hmm? When?"
Minamoto Tamako, following the keywords, bit her thumb, continually sifting through her memories.
Pretty woman, princess cut hairstyle, once drowned, both Fushimi and I have seen...
Minamoto Tamako was stunned, thinking of a woman who matched all these traits, including those eyes—although the expression was quite different, the outline was very similar!
"Is it... the one from Cat Island..."
She lowered her voice, unable to resist confirming with Fushimi Roku. The latter raised a finger, glanced at the driver, and whispered, "Shh, we'll talk when we get to the hospital."
Minamoto Tamako was filled with suspicion, wondering if that person wasn't already dead?
If her guess was right, that woman was the chief designer of Cat Island, someone who had once played underwater games with Mr. Fushimi. She had witnessed that woman drowning herself, her body motionless in the water... How could she be here?
Perhaps she was rescued afterward?
Doubts kept surfacing, and Minamoto Tamako wanted to know, what exactly was that woman's purpose, why she came back, if the brain injury was real, and what happened on Cat Island after they left...
But with the driver still in front, Minamoto Tamako knew better than to discuss such things openly. Her mind was scratching like a hundred little cats; she wanted to speak but forced herself to hold back.
Finally, they got off the taxi, and after Mr. Fushimi paid the fare, she eagerly grabbed Fushimi Roku, sneaking to the roadside, squatting behind a landscaped bush, and asked in a low voice, "Are you sure it's her?"
"Probably."
Fushimi Roku recalled that the chief designer of Cat Island was named Uesugi Shion, but at that time, her criminal index was not 1% but 57%, having surpassed the 50% threshold, considered a super villain with ideals in novels.
But the Uesugi Shion he saw this morning seemed more like a three-year-old child, with fighting power even lesser than Taira Sakurako.
In theory, the criminal index could fluctuate, Fushimi Roku had encountered such situations before. Yet, the huge discrepancy with Uesugi Shion made him always suspect they weren't the same person.
"How did you recognize her?" Minamoto Tamako picked up a twig and poked at some ants, "Do you have a deep impression of her?"
"I almost got killed by her, how can the impression not be deep?" Fushimi Roku replied irritably, "I've seen her face, naturally I can recognize her."
"That's true." Minamoto Tamako found it reasonable, recalling that Mr. Fushimi had once broken into the broadcasting room, probably that's when they met.
She drew a circle in the dirt around the ants and continued asking, "What are you looking for her for? Wasn't it about finding a way to detoxify?"
"Did you forget? Cat Island had a lot of Ye Tea cultivated, and as Cat Island's chief designer, surely she would know about Ye Tea? Even planting flowers in this landscaped area has its science, if she doesn't understand the characteristics of Ye Tea, how would she plan the planting locations?"
As he spoke, Fushimi Roku shielded his forehead with his hands, blocking the sunlight, "Even if she doesn't know how to detoxify, she would know where Cat Island is, wouldn't she?"
The summer had arrived, Tokyo was unexpectedly hot, and the sun in the sky was scorching. The taxi had air conditioning, so Fushimi Roku hadn't felt hot, but once he got out, he felt like he would melt.
Minamoto Tamako understood in her heart that there was a laboratory on Cat Island, for researching Ye Tea specifically, and finding those researchers might have a high probability of uncovering a detoxification method.
Of course, it would be even better if that self-proclaimed chief designer knew the antidote.
"What if she doesn't remember anything?" Minamoto Tamako worried, "To be able to become Cat Island's designer, her family background should be good, right? There were even two bodyguards looking for her this morning! Aren't you curious about how she survived? Aren't you curious why she left Cat Island? Also, why did she come to us this morning..."
"Let's ask her first." Fushimi Roku interrupted.
He felt his whole body heating, feeling like he'd dry up under the sun. He hadn't expected Tokyo's summer to be so hot, a little longer outside, and he'd get heatstroke for sure.
After speaking, regardless of Minamoto Tamako's reaction, he walked into the hospital directly.
The cold air hit his face, and Fushimi Roku enjoyed it, squinting his eyes, unbuttoning his overcoat and fanning himself, looking like a creepy flasher.
Minamoto Tamako quickly caught up, whispering, "Do you know which ward she's in? We can't search room by room..."
Fushimi Roku looked at her as if watching an idiot. It's often said that a woman's IQ declines sharply in love, reduced to an emotion-driven fool; he thought it was a rumor, but now it seemed somewhat true.
"What kind of look is that?" Minamoto Tamako was displeased, feeling underestimated.
Fushimi Roku didn't reply, he stopped a nurse, inquired about the nurse station's location, and she thoughtfully directed him. Fushimi Roku headed to the nurse station quickly, found the head nurse, showed his police badge, and claimed he was from the Nakagawara Police Station Criminal Police and needed to interrogate a patient named 'Uesugi Shion.'
"She's in A-203..."
The head nurse didn't suspect anything, even willing to guide the way, cautiously asking Fushimi Roku what happened.
"Sorry, it involves a criminal case, not convenient to disclose."
As Fushimi Roku turned to leave, Minamoto Tamako pulled him back. She pulled him to a corner in the hallway, lowering her voice to ask, "Isn't this an abuse of power? How can you use your position to inquire about confidential privacy?"
"What abuse of power," Fushimi Roku looked puzzled, "Aren't you planning to investigate Cat Island?"
Minamoto Tamako had forgotten this point, but she still debated, "Of course we need to investigate, but we need to file a case first..."
"According to the Japanese Criminal Procedure Law, when there is substantial reason to suspect that a person has committed an offense punishable by death, life imprisonment, or a maximum term of more than 3 years in prison or detention, and due to urgency, there is no time to request a warrant from a judge, the prosecutor, prosecutor's officer, or judicial police officer can arrest the suspected person after informing the reason..."
With a shrug, Fushimi Roku said, "Now I'm suspicious the suspect is preparing to flee, so I'm exercising this authority. If you feel the reason is insufficient, under the Police Duties Execution Act, the police have the power to conduct preliminary investigations on suspicious individuals. She broke into my house this morning, so I have the right to investigate her legally."
"..."
Minamoto Tamako thought, here we go again, Mr. Fushimi's legal jargon face had reappeared.
Since they returned from Cat Island, Mr. Fushimi hadn't used 'law education' like this in a long time, making Minamoto Tamako once believe he had reformed.
Now it seems a dog can't change from eating shit.
Minamoto Tamako felt that as Mr. Fushimi's lover, partner, colleague, confidant, and best friend, she had the obligation to correct this bad habit of his exploiting legal loopholes—to which she used to naively think he made much sense, but now she realized, he was just using loopholes in the law!
But now wasn't the time, with Mr. Fushimi's life uncertain, she had to think of a way to detoxify first, and then consider implementing the "Fushimi Roku Transformation Plan."
Minamoto Tamako secretly made up her mind, but outwardly didn't show anything, laughingly saying, "Okay, okay, since you're doing things by the book, I won't meddle with you."
Fushimi Roku couldn't be bothered to quibble with her, and he found Uesugi Shion's ward according to the small map on the wall.
As he was about to enter, Minamoto Tamako remembered something else and asked Fushimi Roku how he knew her name. He casually made up a lie, saying they had introduced themselves at the time, which made Minamoto Tamako a little jealous again.
"Excuse me."
Fushimi Roku pushed the door and entered, seeing two bodyguards sitting on the left and right in the ward, heads down reading newspapers. Uesugi Shion lay on the hospital bed, or more accurately, was confined to the bed, tied up all over with straps, looking like a female version of Hannibal.
He showed his police badge again and requested the two bodyguards to leave.
But this time it didn't work, the bodyguards stood up, one blocking the two of them, while the other took out a walkie-talkie, quietly calling for reinforcements.
