Chapter 125: Hear the Way in the Morning, Die Content in the Evening (4 explosive updates, 12k words, please subscribe)_1
In his bedroom, Aozawa felt the urge to use Schrodinger's Cat ability, and naturally, he activated it.
He looked down to find that his hands and body were becoming transparent.
For about a second, the transparency settled at a semi-transparent state.
Just like the ghosts in horror movies.
Could he float up?
The thought had barely crossed his mind when his body actually started to float off the ground and drift into the air.
"OH!"
Aozawa's eyes gleamed. As he touched the ceiling, a new speculation arose in his heart, and he tried to push his head through it.
Then, his head emerged from the floor above.
Above him was a muscular man lifting weights; his upper body was pure muscle, his arms and thighs so thick that they immediately brought the word "bulky" to mind.
From the man's perspective, he should have been able to see him.
But despite a head suddenly popping out of the floor, the man showed no sign of surprise and continued his dumbbell lifts, working out his arm muscles.
Aozawa emerged fully from the floor and slapped the man's buttocks, confirming his suspicion.
Now, he was almost like a ghost.
Others couldn't see him, nor could he interact with them.
He began to understand what the Schrodinger's Cat superpower was.
It's probably the kind of superpower that makes one cease to exist.
Because he didn't exist in this world, he couldn't be observed by anyone, nor could he affect anyone.
Similarly, not existing in this world also means I can appear anywhere.
Aozawa thought of Tokyo Tower.
The next second, the scene before his eyes changed, and a roaring wind filled his ears.
He floated at the very tip of Tokyo Tower, gazing down at Tokyo in the early morning.
The clear sky even allowed him to see Mount Fuji in the distance.
With summer approaching, Mount Fuji's summit was bare of snow, transformed into a bald Stone Mountain, which didn't look pretty at all.
Aozawa looked around, a trace of excitement on his face.
Schrodinger's Cat is truly an amazing superpower!
After some thought, he returned to his bedroom and entered the second form of the superpower.
Schrodinger's Cat was different from other superpowers—while using it, Aozawa discovered that this ability had two stages.
One was to make oneself non-existent, like a ghost, able to wander everywhere.
The other was to make oneself exist in this world.
His semi-transparent body gradually became solid again. Aozawa clenched his fist, walked to the desk, opened the top drawer, and took out a fruit knife.
"PHEW," he took a deep breath and slashed hard at his finger with the knife.
In his view, existence shouldn't simply mean being visible.
If that were the case, there would be no need for a second phase; simply deactivating the ability would return him to an observable state.
Existence must have other effects.
To verify this, he decided to try cutting himself with the knife first.
The fruit knife slid over his finger, leaving no wound. It wasn't due to Ultra-Fast Regeneration, but a higher-level concept.
That is, in the state of Schrodinger's Cat, he would maintain a state of existence within this world.
No attack, whether from a knife or a gun, could affect his body, which remained perfectly sound and present.
It's simply an invincible superpower!
Limited to this week, though.
Aozawa wondered if, in such a state, he could survive a nuclear blast.
On second thought, he figured that managing to get hit by a nuke within the week wouldn't be easy.
Aozawa took another deep breath and then suddenly plunged the fruit knife forcefully toward his abdomen. He felt no resistance, nor the sensation of being stabbed.
He pulled out the knife.
The previously shiny blade had completely vanished, as if consumed by something, leaving only the handle.
What is this situation?
Aozawa tilted his head. Could it be that, contrary to my guess, my body is enveloped by some kind of invisible energy shield in this existent state?
Faced with questions he couldn't understand, Aozawa decided not to dwell on them. He wasn't a scientist, after all. He exited the Schrodinger's Cat state.
His body was still intact, with no signs of being stabbed or cut.
"Very good."
Aozawa clenched his fists.
He no longer dwelled on the heavily nerfed Catalyst Induction. That was in the past; now was the era of Schrodinger's Cat!
The ability feels like a combination of teleportation and invincibility.
A genuine immortal body.
Aozawa really wanted to shout out loud, I'm so incredibly hyped!
But he lacked the power to, say, drill a hole in his head with his finger.
Aozawa took off his pajamas, put on his black school uniform, and walked out the door, saying, "Chitose, good morning."
"Mm."
Morimoto Chitose was still practicing yoga.
On the kitchen counter, Aozawa's breakfast for the day was already prepared.
「At Brilliant High School, Class 2-C.」
Phoenix Academy Maggie didn't go over to chat with Yoshikawa Sayuri and the others as usual. She just gave the two of them a simple greeting and then dragged her listless steps back to her own seat.
She had used expensive makeup to cover the dark circles under her eyes, but the fatigue on her cheeks was a reality that no makeup could hide.
She had suffered from insomnia for two consecutive days.
The tragedy that occurred in Shinjuku Okubo weighed heavily on her conscience; she felt she should do something about it, even if she wasn't sure what she could do.
Phoenix Academy Maggie massaged her temples, trying to stop thinking about those things, but the news reports echoed in her mind over and over.
A family of four, even the baby in swaddling clothes, had not escaped.
And all of this was merely because Iwasaki and the others wanted to play a spur-of-the-moment game.
Human lives aren't a game.
She sighed. Suddenly, someone patted her on the shoulder.
"Miss."
"AH!"
Phoenix Academy Maggie was so startled that she dodged towards the window and turned her head. "Tetsuji, don't call me Miss! I don't want to hear that kind of address!"
"ER, you seem off."
Hojo Tetsuji had originally wanted to show Phoenix Academy Maggie his manga draft.
But seeing her reaction, even someone as slow-witted as he could tell that she was not in a good state today.
"It's okay, I'm feeling very energetic. Bring over the manga draft for me to see."
Phoenix Academy Maggie quickly adjusted her composure. She didn't want others to know how tired she was.
"Forget it. Your attitude doesn't seem very good right now."
Hojo Tetsuji took back the manga draft.
Phoenix Academy Maggie's competitive spirit was provoked, and she glared. "I said there's no problem, so there's no problem! What's with all your pointless objections?"
"You're quite fiery, huh."
Hojo Tetsuji recalled his sister, Shouko, who would become especially irritable for a few days each month; you could also call it stubbornness.
Once Shouko entered such a state, she would become ten times more serious than usual.
When Shouko wanted to persuade him to do something, she would pester him relentlessly, forcing him to follow her instructions until she got her way.
To be honest, when Shouko was in that state, even he felt like he had to hold his breath around her.
In his eyes, Phoenix Academy Maggie's uncharacteristic behavior meant she was in a similar frenzy.
"My temper isn't fierce at all!"
Phoenix Academy Maggie glared, believing she wasn't short-tempered at all right now.
"It's okay. I'll have Aozawa look at these. You should drink more hot water."
Hojo Tetsuji just wanted to stay away from the current Phoenix Academy Maggie.
Drink hot water?! Phoenix Academy Maggie was slightly taken aback, immediately understanding what he was implying. She wanted to argue but didn't know how to explain.
Forget it, let him think what he wants.
Phoenix Academy Maggie couldn't be bothered to explain and quietly took out her textbook from her desk, beginning to flip through it.
As class time approached, Aozawa and Ayatsuki Iroha walked side by side into the classroom through the back door, then split up. As he walked towards his seat, Hojo Tetsuji hurriedly intercepted him and whispered, "You'd better not annoy the Miss. She's in a furious state."
"What do you mean?"
"It's just that time of the month when girls are in a frenzy."
I got it, Aozawa suddenly realized. Her period has started. Girls in this state, perhaps because all their blood is flowing out, seem particularly bloodthirsty.
"Could you check out the manga draft for me?"
Hojo Tetsuji stuffed the manga draft he was holding into Aozawa's hands.
Aozawa took the draft and walked to his seat, pulling out the chair.
Phoenix Academy Maggie turned her head and said, "You don't believe what that guy said, do you?"
"No, how could I believe him?"
Aozawa quickly shook his head, not even bothering to argue with Phoenix Academy Maggie.
The most foolish thing in the world is for a guy to try and reason with a girl on her period.
She rolled her eyes and said, "Don't believe Tetsuji. I haven't even started yet."
"Right, you're correct."
Aozawa nodded, practically wearing an invisible sign around his neck saying, 'Whatever you say is right.'
Seeing his expression, Phoenix Academy Maggie felt even more depressed.
"You clearly don't believe me!"
She turned away angrily, deciding not to talk to Aozawa.
A flicker of helplessness crossed Aozawa's face. I really can't handle the Miss.
He put down the manga draft and patted Phoenix Academy Maggie on the shoulder. "Alright, don't be mad. Getting angry now is bad for your health. Whatever you want to say to me, just say it."
"I don't want to talk to you."
Phoenix Academy Maggie didn't even turn her head, her voice sounding muffled.
"Sorry, it's my fault. I shouldn't have thought of staying away from you right now. If you have any thoughts, speak up; I'll definitely listen."
Aozawa could only continue trying to placate her.
Phoenix Academy Maggie sighed internally. She wasn't angry at Aozawa, but at herself.
Why am I so powerless? How could my mind be so consumed with the urge to vent my anger on Aozawa and Hojo Tetsuji? It has nothing to do with them.
Phoenix Academy Maggie sighed again, turning slightly. "Sorry, I really wasn't mad at you or Tetsuji."
Aozawa noticed something off about her gaze and asked in confusion, "Didn't you sleep well last night?"
"Yeah."
Phoenix Academy Maggie nodded, showing little interest in further conversation.
Aozawa's face grew serious. "Whatever's bothering you, you can tell me. Don't keep it bottled up. We're friends. Even if I can't help, I can at least share some of the psychological burden with you."
Phoenix Academy Maggie thought for a moment; the matter was already settled, and even if she talked about it, it wouldn't burden Aozawa. It seemed unnecessary to keep hiding it.
Maggie! she thought, steeling herself.
"Alright, I'll tell you." She sighed, deciding to reveal the frustrations she had been holding in.
