Tokyo Ghoul: Starting with Kamui!

Chapter 8: Chapter 8: Quinque "Erik"

"I don't like killing needlessly; even if my opponent is a Ghoul."

Uchiha Byakuya stated calmly.

"Surrender quietly, and I won't have to kill you."

"Oh, I see now. You're one of those 'White Doves,' huh?"

The Ghoul sneered, completely ignoring Byakuya's offer of mercy.

"You came here without that thing, are you looking to die, huh?"

CCG Investigators were commonly called "White Doves" by Ghouls due to the pigeon-like badge they wore on their uniforms.

As for "Quinques," they were weapons crafted from the Kakuhou of slain Ghouls—specifically designed to counter Ghouls.

Because Kagune were formed from RC Cells, they were extremely durable, far tougher than regular weapons.

Even firearms were mostly ineffective against a Ghoul's Kagune, as normal bullets couldn't penetrate their defenses.

Thus, Quinques were standard-issue for CCG Investigators, as they were the only reliable means of fighting Ghouls.

One of the most common rules drilled into every CCG Investigator was:

"Never engage a Ghoul alone without a Quinque. If you don't have one, retreat immediately—no hesitation."

This was why the Ghoul in front of Byakuya was so confident.

From his perspective, a CCG Investigator without a Quinque was nothing more than a defenseless lamb waiting to be slaughtered.

And theoretically, he wasn't wrong.

"I've always wondered what you 'White Doves' taste like..."

The Ghoul's voice turned savage.

"And you just walked right into my hunting ground. Time to die!"

With that, his Kakuhou activated.

Emerging from beneath his shoulder blades, a second Koukaku Kagune burst forth—this one larger and more lethal than the last.

Clearly, he was now going all out, determined to finish Byakuya in a single strike.

Byakuya simply sighed and shook his head.

He raised his right hand, momentarily covering his eyes; hiding the brief appearance of his blood-red Dual Kamui.

For a split second, space distorted and twisted.

A white briefcase materialized out of thin air, emerging from a spiraling vortex.

Byakuya reached out, his right hand gripping the handle of the briefcase.

This wasn't just any briefcase; It was biometrically locked, meaning only he could open it.

A safety measure to prevent theft or misuse.

With a single motion, he unlocked the case.

The Quinque inside—once a compressed Kakuhou—quickly unfolded into its weaponized form.

A katana-shaped blade appeared in his grasp.

This was a B-rank Quinque—codenamed "Erik."

The blade had been forged from the Kakuhou of a B-rank Ghoul known as "Erik."

It was CCG-issued, specially assigned to Byakuya as his personal weapon.

Of course, he had never actually carried it with him.

Instead, he had stored it in Kamui's dimension, an isolated pocket space, completely separate from the world of Tokyo Ghoul.

"A Quinque?! When—?!"

The Ghoul's eyes widened in horror.

He hadn't seen Byakuya pull out a weapon at all.

It was as if the Quinque had magically appeared from nowhere.

But his shock only lasted a moment.

Driven by hunger and desperation, he lunged forward, Kagune slashing through the air.

He hadn't eaten in days.

Tonight; he was going to feast on this human.

"I gave you a chance..."

Byakuya muttered.

With minimal effort, he leaned back, narrowly avoiding the Ghoul's Kagune swipe aimed directly at his face.

The Ghoul's attack missed completely—leaving him momentarily off-balance.

Byakuya didn't waste the opening.

With a swift, precise counter, he swung his Quinque in a reverse arc, slashing deep into the Ghoul's Kakuhou.

The Kakuhou was a Ghoul's most vital organ. Unlike other body parts that could rapidly regenerate, a damaged Kakuhou was extremely difficult to heal.

With just one precise slash, Uchiha Byakuya had completely disabled his opponent.

He didn't give the Ghoul a chance to recover; without hesitation, he followed up with a final stab to the heart, delivering a killing blow.

[Ding! The host has defeated a "B-rank Ghoul." Reward: +3 Attribute Points!]

"Oh… so I don't actually have to kill them to earn points?"

Byakuya realized this only after the fight had ended.

However, in this case, his opponent had chosen death.

If the Ghoul had surrendered immediately, Byakuya wouldn't have killed him.

Instead, he would have simply handed him over to the CCG for imprisonment.

The Ghoul Detention Center wasn't exactly a great place to be, but at least it wasn't instant death.

With the battle over, Byakuya calmly sealed his Quinque back inside its briefcase.

Then, he pulled out his phone and called the 2nd Ward CCG Branch.

"This is Second-Class Investigator Uchiha Byakuya. The target has been successfully neutralized. Location—"

"Understood! We'll send a cleanup team immediately. Please remain on-site to prevent civilians from wandering into the area."

"Got it."

After the call ended, Byakuya stood in place, waiting.

His gaze drifted to the Ghoul's corpse.

This was the first time he had killed a person—

Well, technically a Ghoul.

Even so, he still felt some discomfort.

To him, Ghouls and humans weren't all that different.

But this world wasn't like his previous life—it was a place where only the strong survived.

If he wanted to live, he had no choice but to adapt.

He could only cling to his principles to never kill an innocent human or Ghoul unless absolutely necessary.

Life was sacred, but in this world, taking lives was sometimes unavoidable.

Within ten minutes, the CCG cleanup team arrived at the scene.

The personnel consisted of Third-Class Investigators and Investigator Assistants.

Compared to Byakuya, who was a Second-Class Investigator, their ranks were lower.

Investigator Assistants were ranked even lower than Third-Class Investigators—they were essentially interns tasked with grunt work.

Since their combat abilities were weak, their primary role was site management and corpse disposal.

Additionally, only Second-Class Investigators and above were authorized to use Quinques.

Even among Second-Class Investigators, passing a rigorous combat test was required before being granted a Quinque.

For this reason, lower-ranking CCG personnel could only rely on Q-Bullets—special bullets made from Ghoul Kagune materials.

While not as powerful as a Quinque, Q-Bullets were still effective against Ghouls to some extent.

"Second-Class Uchiha!"

"Thank you for your hard work, sir!"

The cleanup team greeted Byakuya with respect.

Byakuya simply nodded in acknowledgment.

"I'll leave the rest to you. I'm heading home to rest."

"Understood!"

"Yes, sir!"

With that, Byakuya calmly walked away, Quinque briefcase in hand.

As soon as he was gone, the cleanup crew began examining the corpse.

After a quick inspection, one of the Third-Class Investigators couldn't help but exclaim:

"This Ghoul only has two wounds—one directly on the Kakuhou, and one straight through the heart. Both are perfectly placed for an instant kill!"

Usually, after a battle between a CCG Investigator and a Ghoul, the scene would be a chaotic mess—

Yet here, there were barely any traces of struggle.

This meant only one thing—

Uchiha Byakuya had killed the Ghoul in seconds, and his attacks were so precise that there wasn't a single unnecessary wound.

This level of lethality and efficiency was far beyond what a normal Second-Class Investigator was capable of.

"No wonder they say he's a genius from that place... Getting promoted to Second-Class immediately after joining CCG isn't just luck."

"I also noticed that Uchiha-senpai didn't have a single scratch on him. His combat skills are insane!"

"We have to spend two whole years at the Investigator Academy just to have a chance at Second-Class… The gap between us and someone like him is way too big."

Most of the cleanup team were around the same age as Byakuya—

Yet, to them, he was already a figure worthy of admiration.
