Tokyo Ghoul: Starting with Kamui!

Chapter 1: Chapter 1: Double Kamui

Japan, Tokyo.

"So, I really did transmigrate..."

Looking at the completely unfamiliar scenery before him, Uchiha Byakuya couldn't help but murmur to himself.

He had already figured out his situation. In his previous life, he'd been sent flying by a dump truck, and in the blink of an eye, he found himself in the world of Tokyo Ghoul.

This was still Earth, but different from the one he had known. The biggest difference was that in this modernized city, creatures that viewed humans as food lurked in the shadows. These beings were known as Ghouls.

Ghouls were generally far stronger than ordinary humans, making this a rather dangerous world.

Of course, as a transmigrator, Uchiha Byakuya naturally came equipped with a cheat ability.

The Mangekyō Sharingan—Kamui!

More precisely—Dual Kamui!

With a mere thought, Byakuya's once-normal black pupils instantly transformed into blood-red orbs. Within each eye, three scythe-like tomoe spun within the crimson glow—this was the unique pattern of Dual Kamui. Another thought, and his eyes returned to their normal black hue.

But that wasn't all. He also had a system. His ability to transmigrate here and obtain Dual Kamui was all thanks to this system.

"Uchiha, how are you adjusting to your new job here?"

A voice beside him interrupted his thoughts.

Turning his head, Byakuya saw that it was Shunji Shiono. He nodded and smiled. "I'm feeling pretty good so far. Thanks for your concern, Shiono-senpai."

That's right—Uchiha Byakuya was currently working at a publishing house called Shoei Publishing as a rookie editor.

However, his real identity was that of a CCG investigator, currently undercover at Shoei Publishing to investigate Ghouls.

The CCG, or Commission of Counter Ghoul, was the government agency responsible for combating Ghouls and investigating Ghoul-related incidents.

"Ah, youth really is something..." Shiono sighed as he leaned back in his chair. "Just now, a little girl who looked like she was still in middle school came to me. Gotta admire her courage, but seriously, what can a middle schooler even write? And she handed me this ridiculously thick stack of manuscripts. Who the hell has time to read all that?"

"A middle school girl?"

Byakuya's eyes flashed as a thought crossed his mind. He immediately turned to Shiono. "Shiono-senpai, could you let me take a look at her manuscript?"

If his guess was correct, that girl was most likely Yoshimura Eto—or rather, the future Takatsuki Sen!

"Huh? You mean that middle schooler's manuscript?" Shiono glanced at the massive stack of papers on his desk and waved a hand dismissively. "It's a whole damn pile. If you don't mind the hassle, just take it."

With that, he casually handed the thick manuscript over to Byakuya.

Shiono hadn't even given it a second glance. He was too busy with his own work to waste time on what he assumed was just a middle schooler's self-indulgent scribbles.

Of course, that was simply his biased assumption—he hadn't even read a single word of it.

"Got it. Thanks, Shiono-senpai."

Uchiha Byakuya expressed his gratitude.

It was thanks to the system that he could communicate normally with Shunji Shiono—it had granted him native-level proficiency in Japanese.

Taking the manuscript, he quickly confirmed that this was most likely the original draft of Dear Kafka, Takatsuki Sen's debut work.

And it was entirely handwritten. At a glance, it spanned several hundred pages at least.

In his previous life, Byakuya had been a web novelist who wrote primarily on a computer. Handwriting everything was incredibly slow.

It was hard to imagine how long it had taken Yoshimura Eto to write this much.

[Ding! The host has obtained the special item: "Original Draft of Dear Kafka." Hidden mission (Genius Writer Takatsuki Sen) activated!]

A sudden system notification echoed in his mind, making Uchiha Byakuya pause in surprise.

He hadn't expected there to be hidden missions.

Immediately after, three lines of system text appeared before his eyes—visible only to him.

[Mission 1: Become Yoshimura Eto's responsible editor.]

[Mission Deadline: Within three days.]

[Mission Reward: 10 Attribute Points.]

The difficulty of this mission wasn't too high.

As for the attribute points, they were extremely valuable.

With a thought, Byakuya summoned the system panel before him—again, visible only to himself.

[Host: Uchiha Byakuya]

[Race: Half-Human]

[Identity: CCG Investigator (Public), Sunlit Garden Half-Human (Secret)]

[Age: 18]

[Physicality: 20 (The average healthy human is 10.)]

[RC Cell Count: 500 (The average healthy human ranges from 200 to 500.)]

[Current Attribute Points: 0]

The system panel confirmed that Uchiha Byakuya was neither fully human nor fully Ghoul—he was a Half-Human.

Half-Humans were the offspring of a human and a Ghoul, possessing higher RC cell counts than ordinary humans but lower than full Ghouls. Their physical capabilities also surpassed those of normal humans.

RC cells were special cells found in both humans and Ghouls. They flowed like blood yet were harder than teeth.

Since Byakuya's body lacked chakra, the system had modified Dual Kamui so that it consumed his RC cells instead.

Even a single Kamui had an enormous energy drain. In Naruto, Obito Uchiha could only use his Mangekyō Sharingan freely because of his Hashirama cells. So how much more draining would Dual Kamui be?

With his current RC cell count of 500, which was already high for a human, using Kamui even a few times would likely push him to extreme exhaustion.

The higher his RC cell count, the more freely he could use Dual Kamui.

Aside from that, there was also the Physicality stat, which essentially represented his body's overall fitness.

Since he was a Half-Human, his physical stats were roughly double that of an ordinary human.

More importantly, Physicality directly influenced his ability to regenerate RC cells and restore his Mangekyō Sharingan's ocular power.

The higher his Physicality, the faster his RC cells and vision would recover.

Ghouls typically restored their RC cells by consuming human flesh, but Byakuya had no intention of eating that disgusting stuff.

For him, Physicality was crucial—it meant he wouldn't have to resort to cannibalism.

However, both RC Cell Count and Physicality required attribute points to improve, and acquiring those points wasn't easy.

[Ding! The host has received a "Newbie Gift Pack." Would you like to open it?]
