Chapter 15: Killing loneliness
Everything happened so fast that nobody noticed when Andrew and Veronica were gone.
Veronica noticed that Andrew wasn't behind her and guessed that the police were after him.
Her brain told her to not go there but her heart was singing another tune. It was telling her to go and save him, even if it means destroying herself.
"The urge to give him my heart so that he can break it over and over again until there's nothing left but dust and I can't offer him anything other than my emptiness." She once said that when she was madly in love with him.
But who knew that it was going to be the reality? She gave him chances again and again and he continued to mess up.
But still, her love for him didn't decrease. Until her heart was no more beating.
Only after she became numb then when she started listening to her brain.
Someone wise said that until we reach our bottom level, we can't reach our highest. Something similar happened to her.
She was thrown into the sea called love where the water, wave, and everything was only pulling her down. She was drowning, her entire life flashed by her eyes and she realized that she still has a long way to go.
She realized that she still has so much to achieve and dying wasn't an option. That's when she started moving her body and soon, she somehow learned how to swim despite the wave dragging her toward her doom.
She knew that if he is caught by the police then this entire situation would get messier and she wasn't unaware of the fact that his father would punish him for this.
He never told her about the punishments but she knew that he was punished at his house. She wasn't the most loved princess either.
Her parents loved her but she was punished often as well. They would take away the gadgets or make her study for extra hours.
She thought that these were the same for him. As he was an adult now and a made man, he might take away his title for a few days.
She didn't want him to be upset and insulted by others. No matter what, no matter whether she is in his life or not, she doesn't want him to get insulted before anyone else.
Him always being on top was, is, and forever going to be one of her top prayers.
She decided to follow her heart and save him. She went back and saw that the police were giving him a warning. She took out a smoke bomb from her car's secret drawer and threw it toward the car.
She wore her mask and after replying to the police, she got out of her car. She looked through their window to see that they were already asleep.
That smoke bomb had a sleeping effect. She wanted them to talk so that they can inhale the fog as well as shallow some. As planned, they fall asleep.
She went to Andrew's car and found him sleeping as well. She thought that his car's window was closed but turns out she was wrong.
Cursing herself under her breath as well as Andrew, she went back to her car and bought a spray. She sprayed a generous amount on Andrew's face and he got up with a jerk. Her eyes widened a little with worry after seeing his scared face and her heart started to ache.
She didn't like him getting scared. He was supposed to have a heart made of stone and fear none rather than his creator.
"The spray was needed to wake you up again. Now hurry up, we need to leave before another car comes here while finding them," she cleared her throat before saying.
He nodded his head. She went back to her car and started the engine. Following her actions, he did the same and both of them started going to their destination.
Both of them were thinking about different things. Questions were eating them alive but neither of them was ready for the answers.
She wanted to know the reason behind the fear in his eyes while he wanted to know why she saved him when she could have simply left him there.
He wasn't used to getting saved by others. When needed, he didn't even find his own family by his side.
He was used to doing everything alone. He wasn't perfect at everything he does. He makes mistakes and he gets punished for them but at the end of the day, he learns from them and tries to make sure that the same mistake doesn't take place again.
In the end, he was the one who has to collect his pieces and pull himself together, coming back stronger than ever.
But for the past few days, he has found her by his side. She was there to save him again and again.
He was angry at himself for making mistakes again and again but at the same time, he couldn't help but be happy.
Him being in danger and her saving him, the worry in her eyes was enough for him to die happily.
Their destination was the same place.
The underworld racing spot. It was an illegal place and so was the racing. Lots of people have died there while racing against each other.
A huge amount of money is thrown at each player and they feel pressurized to win otherwise the people who bet are the one's going to kill them.
That's how crazy this race gets in the underworld. But nobody seems to care.
People who come here are either tired of life and want to finish themselves but before that, they want to use their luck for the last time.
But the reason behind Andrew and Veronica coming here was different. They don't come here to die, they come here to kill all of the loneliness they feel.
They come here to kill time.
