Chapter 3: Awakening
Three, two, one.
*CONGRATULATIONS! YOU HAVE COMPLETED THE FIRST PART OF YOUR ASSESSMENT*
*CONTROL CALLERS WOULD NOW BE ACTIVATED AS YOU TAKE A 5 MINUTES RECESS*
"Ouch!", he said as he slowly got up, rubbing his head to ease the throb that pulsated within.
He let his gaze wander around the base of the cliff fro a while.
He was alone and everything seemed normal, like nothing had just happened.
His mind couldn't fully recollect what had just happened the last few seconds but his body vividly recalled and reminded him with the gushing spew of blood out of his mouth and the slowly steadying drum of his besrek heartbeat.
Spew!
A rushing stream of blood washed out of his mouth causing him to pant heavily as he forcefully recalled the previous minutes transpiration.
"Wait, shouldn't I be...", he looked up to recount the height he descended from.
The enormous rock mass towered as high a he thought it to be adjudging by how long he spent in the air.
At the cliff edge, he could see the whipping limbs of the Cnidra beast.
From where it stood, he was well below its reach so after a witty defeat it sliddered out of sight to other closer targets.
Viewing the miniaturized size of the tree-like beast from the base of the cliff, awed his senses some more as he wondered how he could have survived such a sure-end fall and only end up with an 'ouch.'
He lowered his gaze again to the pool of blood before him which instantly summoned him to the realization of which he later confirmed that his receptors were truly working and not just numb.
"The pain. It's gone," he said in an awestruck note.
The cut and wound over his body were gone.
Even the diving stab in his arm was erased without a single trace.
He held the posterior ends of his torso and the pain there too vanished. His kidneys had regenarated.
"But how am I..?"
He wondered, a his mind a trifle hinting him on the reason for such a phenomenon.
He unconsciously held in anxious breath, as if waiting for what he wasn't sure would even arrive.
The moments though brief were agonizing but provided adequate respite from the sorrow of what he thought after some seconds of no occurrence:
'Am I not...,' he thought slightly disheartened.
Just then, the rectangular interface chimed in with dim flickering rays.
[Congratulations Max Fenton. You have awoken 3 concepts – Magic, time and anti-magic]
'Three,' he inwardly awed as his brows almost alighted off their place.
There was a total of 7 known concepts.
Magic, anti-magic, time, soul, science, technology and forbidden.
And the probability of awakening magic even on Planet Z was about one in every ten thousand and gaining an additional concept along with it was one in a billion chance, yet stunningly he managed to do both and one more extra.
He'll be a keeper for sure, well that's it he lets them.
The Organization had been running these awakening assessment to harvest people who could unlock abilities of which they could not yet explore.
That was the crux of their operation.
Ever since, there had been a plethora of science and technology awakening over every other concepts but with someone with 2 undelved concepts, there is no way they'll let him just walk away like that, atleast not without trying some shady business first.
But he was going to walk away anyway and wasn't interested in any kind of offer.
He didn't need the help of anyone to get stronger. Not then, not now, not ever.
That path was his to thread alone.
He shrugged at the thought of being indebted to the great commission before trying something he had only heard of:
'Status,' he mentally commanded.
The status screen transitioned in, displaying representatives of his current ability and a few other unidentifiable details in discreate figures.

He glanced over it and infered that concept type must determine the details displayed on ones status.
He narrowed his eyes towards the concept skilltab and read through the description of the skill there.
After a while he got bored and needed some action.
"Enough of that," he said eagerly. "Time for some real practice."
For some reason he couldn't activate the Null zone skill but that was okay for the time being cause he brought a skill of his own.
He reached out into the side pouch on his back for his ability book.
Getting here alone literally almost cost him an arm and a leg and the ability book... hehe...
Let's just say that if anything happened to it, he'll...
"What! Where is it?'
He frantically delved into his empty pouch searching for what obviously wasn't there.
"No, no, no, no, no!!!!! This can't be happening."
"Where could it be? Did I lose it in the fall?", his mind and heart raced in every direction as he tried accounting for possible places and times he must have lost it.
Throwing more iron in the fire, his comm blared:
*BREAK OVER*
*MISSION: MAKE IT TO THE CLOUD KINGDOM IN 24 HOURS TO FINALIZE AWAKENING ASSESSMENT*
*CONTROL CALLERS ACTIVATED*
"Growl," a creature announced it's deadly presence not so far away.
The eerie sound came from the nightly woods facing Max.
His gaze shifted from his search and into the darkness ahead.
Armed with zero skill, zero allies and zero ability books, he didn't stand a chance against what ever lurked within.
And whatever lurked within was fierce.
