CHAPTER :30
Chapter 30 – Alchemy Handbook
After returning to his laboratory, Lucien flung out his hand and laid out the few items he had taken from Apollo.
Tsk, he clicked his tongue. I should’ve known better than to use fire-attribute sorcery. The battle went well, but most of the loot was burned to ash. Lucian shook his head with regret as he began sorting through the remaining items.
He had faked that fire on the battlefield—but now it was his own spoils that had been destroyed.
And they were all magic stones!
After sighing for a while, Lucien finally examined the few items Apollo had left behind.
Generally, sorcerers trusted only themselves. So their most valuable belongings were always kept on them.
Of all the items that survived the destructive power of the Torchfire Technique – Correction, only three remained intact: a broken knight’s lance, the sorcerer’s robe Apollo had worn, and a delicate black ring.
A decent defense-type sorcery tool, Lucien mused as he inspected Apollo’s robe. It was slightly torn, but with a bit of repair, it would be perfectly usable.
By Lucien’s estimation, this robe could resist spells with up to 100p burst energy. If it exceeded that, the robe would take some damage. At its limit, it could withstand a single spell with a burst energy of around 200–250p before being rendered useless.
“I’ll give it to Carrie,” Lucien muttered. The robe was a bit underwhelming for his current level, but it would be a waste to sell it outright. Instead, he could hand it over to Carly and layer it into her armor.
As for the broken riding lance, Lucien immediately recognized it as Apollo’s powerful offensive sorcery tool. After a quick examination, he set it aside.
Finally, his eyes fell on the black ring.
The ring had an ancient design, as if carved directly from a single gemstone. Running his fingers over its surface, he could feel faint, intricate patterns. On the inside, barely noticeable, was a small signature: E.W.
Lucien studied it for a while, but couldn’t uncover anything more. Still, the fact that the ring had survived the Torch Flame spell proved it was no ordinary item.
After some thought, Lucian cautiously channeled a strand of spiritual energy into the ring.
Boom—
In the next instant, he sensed a small, independent space within the ring. Several items and materials were stored inside.
A spatial ring! Lucien’s eyes lit up.
These kinds of storage-type magic tools were extremely rare. No one in the entire Grey Bone Academy could refine them. The only way to obtain one was through looting or expensive trade with the outside world. As a result, their value was extraordinarily high—usually, only a handful of Level 3 Wizard Apprentices or formal sorcerers could afford to own one.
Lucien’s original body had been strong, but never ruthless enough to splurge on something like this. He never expected to find one on a mere Level 2 sorcerer apprentice.
Looks like Apollo had a special opportunity at some point, Lucian thought as he delved deeper into the ring with his spiritual power. His eyes glimmered with excitement.
Sure enough, unconventional methods are the fastest way to earn magic stones. He let out a soft breath, satisfied.
The space inside the ring wasn’t large—barely two cubic meters—but everything inside was top-tier. There were over seventy magic stones alone, along with many rare resources that Lucian estimated to be worth another 150 stones.
And then, aside from the magic stones and resources, there were several personal treasures from Apollo’s collection:
A beautiful leaf with purple veins
An ancient leather booklet
A strange crystal that Lucian had never seen before
“Purple Veined Centurion Leaf,” Lucian murmured, eyes gleaming with a hint of obsession.
Though it looked ordinary, this leaf alone was worth at least two hundred magic stones. It was the main ingredient in the potion Hora’s Blessing—a precious elixir that significantly increased the success rate for a Level 3 Apprentice advancing to a full sorcerer.
This was the kind of resource that all top-tier apprentices desperately sought—the kind that had a price, but no market.
Apollo must have been saving this for himself. But now… it’s mine. Lucian smiled as he carefully stored the Centurion Leaf in his spatial ring.
Next, he picked up the red-covered book.
“…Eh?” Lucien’s expression changed instantly.
The book’s clasp was set with a human finger bone. A closer inspection revealed the cover was made from—skin.
The realization sent a chill down his spine. I’m holding someone’s skin… He almost recoiled.
“It’s said that, in ancient times, wizards were even more brutal,” Lucian whispered. “They built empires ruled by magic towers, and they revered the human body.”
A flood of arcane knowledge stirred in his mind.
Only their proudest discoveries were recorded like this—on human skin, written by loyal servants. And for every record made, the servant’s finger would be severed…
Suppressing his revulsion, Lucien took a deep breath and forced himself to open the book.
Just as I thought, he confirmed, recognizing the ancient script. This gruesome tome was a product of the wizard world’s most deranged era.
Esther Weir?
Lucien noticed the name inside the book and immediately thought of the signature in the ring.
So this belonged to that wizard. He flipped through the pages more eagerly.
So, this must be the Space Crystal, he realized, gazing at the small, transparent gem beside the book.
Lucien closed his eyes, absorbing the knowledge recorded inside.
This was the alchemy handbook of Esther Weir—a complete inheritance.
Beyond some less crucial content, the book contained:
Five zero-order sorceries
Two first-order sorceries
A comprehensive alchemical system
And even a method for refining spatial magic
This was a full alchemist’s legacy—enough to take an apprentice alchemist to the level of a formal sorcerer.
Looks like Apollo’s “special opportunity” was inheriting the legacy of Esther Weir, Lucian thought, eyes glowing with ambition. And this alchemist’s knowledge is far more complete than the Primary Magic Pharmacy I learned from Tutor Pinol.
