Chapter 168: Faith Always Arises from Crisis (4k)
"Teacher, will you join us in safeguarding?"
Having handled the matters of the castle, Lin Ke was now overseeing Ove as he concealed the Space-Time Teleportation Array in the dungeon.
Everything valuable in the castle had been packed and stored in the Space Ring.
It was so sudden!
Fortunately, even though the incident occurred unexpectedly, Lin Ke had anticipated such a situation in advance and was prepared.
At his command, the entire Azaenn Castle sprang into action.
And that's not all.
Over two hundred Kuku Birds were released from Azaenn Castle, reaching out to various lords and factions within the Azaenn Territory, including the nobles in the surrounding areas.
Requesting aid, issuing warnings, evacuating...
Lin Ke implemented some pre-rehearsed drills, thus the residents of Azaenn Castle and the five villages witnessed this scene.
Under the command and supervision of professionals, each village was evacuated in an orderly fashion.
Catastrophes and widespread disasters like the wars of the gods and legendary battles were not unheard of in the past, affecting vast areas.
In such instances, it was catastrophic for the people at the bottom of the hierarchy.
Most nobles would consolidate their forces to protect themselves first, especially those exceedingly corrupt ones.
During these times, chaos would reign within the territories, with theft, robbery frequent, and hunger and panic sweeping the land, plunging it into turmoil and devastation.
But look at their Azaenn...
"Hurry, hurry! Leave behind the large items! Take more gold coins! We will return later!"
"Bring more food and water! Lord Lin Ke said these are essentials!"
"Herbs! Herbs! Lord Knicks instructed to bring Purple Flying Flowers, Yellow Grapevine, Lucky Flower... These are a must!"
A man wielding a whip stood in the Azanen Five Villages, none other than Bald Jack.
He held a sheet of fibrous paper, reading aloud from it.
If anyone dared to commit a crime, he would lash them, like now.
"Hmph!" Bald Jack glimpsed a thief from the corner of his eye and lashed out.
The whip was enveloped in a thin layer of dark energy, which entwined around the thief upon contact, seeping into his brain through his ears and mouth.
In an instant, the thief stood dazedly in place without moving, and with a gesture from Bald Jack, the thief obediently shuffled over to stand beside him.
"I have said, Lord Lin Ke will not tolerate theft or robbery. Breaking the rule means death!"
Though Bald Jack was short and stout, his voice was unwavering, unlike his usual ingratiating manner.
The villagers instantly fell silent, abandoning any mischief, and even just a glance from Bald Jack had them sweating profusely.
Seeing this, Bald Jack nodded in satisfaction.
Just yesterday, after the incident, Lin Ke had commended Bald Jack for his outstanding contributions during the war and bestowed upon him a profession.
The profession of [Slave Master].
This was a gift from Count Giant Sword, as a way to atone for his guilt toward Lin Ke, who graciously forgave him.
However, Lin Ke and Count Giant Sword had a contract, allowing Lin Ke to bestow this profession on only one person.
Lin Ke found Bald Jack perfectly suited.
Aspirational, unscrupulous, he even taught himself to read, showing ambition.
Thus he was bestowed with this profession, and could even aspire to the [Capitalist] profession one day.
Lin Ke always needed someone working in the shadows, to handle the many unsavory tasks.
However, because Bald Jack wasn't a follower rewarded by the system, his enlightened talent was only moderate.
Meanwhile, other professionals were overseeing other villages.
Knicks oversaw one village, not only assisting in the retreat but also treating some unable to move easily, and gathering herbs seen along the way.
Lamiel was in charge of the second village, using his Song of Encouragement skill, keeping the villagers alert and devoid of any fear or worry, moving quickly and efficiently.
Lolita, overseeing the third village, was an eighth-level [Charming Beauty] and a secondary-level [Knight].
She hardly needed to act; simply saying a few words had the villagers obediently following orders, beguiled into working.
Sophie led the fourth village, her previous performances having endowed her with an idol-like influence.
She sang with the villagers as they traveled, making it feel like a picnic rather than an escape.
Besides the five village farms, there was Watson at the paper mill.
…
"Family, we share a common aspiration! We can call each other comrades!" Watson exclaimed passionately, "Our Young Master Lin Ke will certainly handle everything well, and we must not create trouble for him now!"
As Watson spoke words of encouragement, he directed the villagers in transporting precious paper, "Lord Lin Ke treats us well! I've never seen such a kind-hearted, loving, and caring lord towards his people. Since he cherishes us so, how can we let him down? Folks, comrades, everyone in the Workers' Association, put in some effort!"
[Worker] First Skill – Comrade's Encouragement!
This was a profession developed by Lin Ke and Watson, inspired by the [Minstrel] and [Singer], fusing the power of voice and emotion.
To Lin Ke's surprise, the skill had middling effects on others, but surprisingly profound motivating effects on workers or guild members.
