This Isn't Home (Amphibia x The Owl House)

Chapter 10: Chapter 10: Horror Hounds

Summary:

The group has an encounter with some deadly night dogs.

Camila gets a strange call.

Anne stood behind the rest of the group as they went to greet the new people.

Though she was excited to meet them, she was also wary of Sasha. She didn't know how her friend would react, but it was better to be safe than sorry.

Marcy fell backwards as something rammed against the vines she was examining. The ground around the base of the plants started to fall away, multiple pairs of small purple paws digging at the earth.

A small tunnel was created and around twenty thin, agile, dog-shaped things crawled out. They were all different shades of colours, ranging from deep, dark red to a bright, vibrant teal. All of them had horns on their head shaped like ears, and three black eyes that soullessly stared at the group.

Everyone fell silent.

"Aww, it's kinda cute." Marcy said, shuffling backwards with a struggle.

One of them, the biggest of the group and a deep orange colour, blinked and stepped forwards.

It slowly opened its mouth. It was like it had no jawbones, the mouth just kept stretching, dozens of sharp teeth appeared and it drooled, letting out a hideous roar.

The things lunged forwards, claws unsheathing and teeth baring.

Marcy screamed as one grabbed her fake leg and another snapped at her arms.

"MARCY!" Anne and Sasha yelled in unison. Anne ran forwards and kicked the horrendous things away, hooking one of Marcy's arms around her shoulders.

Sasha grabbed a rather large branch and began to whack the vile creatures, sending them across the camp.

Amity and Willow sprang into action, working together to chase them away, vines sprouting from the earth and being reinforced with abomination magic. They successfully managed to push them all back, sealing up the door and any possible way to enter the camp quickly.

Anne looked down as Marcy groaned softly, eyes squeezed shut and her fake leg nearly torn apart.

"Marbles, are you okay?!" Anne noticed out of the corner of her eye as she dipped down to help her friend that Sasha turned away and leaned against a nearby tree.

Marcy's eyes opened, but she was squinting. "...Did it kill me?" She mumbled, looking down at her body. Realizing she was fine, she hummed softly and looked up at Anne, who leaned above her.

"No. You're alive," Anne chuckled.

Amity, Luz, Hunter, Willow and Gus moved away from them politely, seeing Marcy was okay and not in need of immediate attention.

"Are you sure? 'Cause I can see an angel in front of me." Marcy grinned, and she buried her face in her hands, embarrassed and red as a tomato. "I'm sorry- that was terrible-" She giggled.

Anne gave Marcy a quick peck on the cheek and then stood up straight.

"Oooooh!" Luz cooed, clasping her hands together with a wide cheeky smile.

"Sh- shut up." Anne elbowed Luz, a jokingly angry face on.

The guardian stood to the side, not visible to the kids and watching them silently. It padded over to the Strength calamity- What was her name? Sasha?- and saw the two or so tears that ran down her cheeks.

The guardian quite liked the form of a cat, though they'd decided to make themselves look more… god-like. Four white paws, about the size of a large lion when travelling the land, three glowing eyes, dark grey fur, and two pearly white wings placed on it's back.

The guardian could see Sasha sensed something and saw her wipe her face hastily, flicking the tears away and bottling up her emotions.

It glanced back at the other seven, and then followed Sasha as she slipped away from them, going to a wall hidden by shadows but bound by vines.

The guardian ever so slightly shifted the vines, letting the girl pass through (with difficulty), and the two continued along, the guardian putting a small safety bubble around Sasha and forcing any nearby threats to disable or go to sleep.

They got about forty steps in when Sasha suddenly bent over and fell to the ground. She gagged and retched, hands digging into the earth.

The guardian looked away, feeling a deep sense of guilt and hopelessness.

This one has gone through so much, They thought as the sounds of spitting and more vomiting reached their ears. I'm sorry, little one. I promise I'm trying to get you back home. None of this was meant to happen.

Sasha coughed a few times and just sat there. Slowly but surely, one after another, she began to cry again. Maybe it was the shock from how suddenly she had hurled. Maybe it was her thoughts. Or maybe it was the feeling she'd never be good enough.

I must fix this.

The guardian gently leaped from their place on the surface of the earth, jumping up to the stars and returning to their home. It shifted it's size, becoming ten times as large and floating among the galaxies. They saw the world below them and held it with their paws gently.

No, they couldn't change the present. They couldn't change someone's thoughts, or read them for that matter, but they were able to sort out how things would come along.

And it seemed the only answer for peace was one little bug that would bring tragedy.

Camila sighed heavily, coffee cup beside her and head down on the table.

Eda leaned back in the chair beside her, King lay on her lap fast asleep.

It had been an eventful month. Defeating Belos, and then a week later, the Collector decided to play a game, forgetting the five kids weren't as powerful as they were. Now Luz, Amity, Hunter, Gus and Willow, were trapped in another dimension.

Camila had tried to stay calm, controlling her breathing and bottling up her temper. The Collector was put to blame by the others, but she'd helped them see he could still fix this mess.

So the Collector built a new portal, this time to the right coordinates, and Camila took Lilith, Eda, King, the Collector, and Hooty with her.

Originally she'd wanted to go alone, but Eda insisted they come with her to keep her company.

"Camila?"

Camila lifted her head, just enough to rest her chin on the table.

"Are you okay?" Vee asked gently.

Luz's mother considered just saying no . But before she could open her mouth, the Collector walked into the kitchen.

He was still a bit sad from the whole incident two weeks ago, apologizing whenever they could and helping fix whatever damage he could. It wasn't much, but it was enough.

The Collector sniffled, holding King's stuffed rabbit, Francois, in their arms. He looked like he had recently been crying.

"Oh, mija , what's wrong?" Camila straightened up against the wooden chair, trying not to seem drained.

"I…" They paused, biting their tongue. "... Nevermind. It's dumb, anyways…"

"No, it's okay. You can tell me."

Camila's phone began to ring. She slid it to Vee, whispering to her "Could you please see who it is while I help the little kid?" Vee nodded and slipped away to one of the corners.

"I, um…" The Collector hesitated. "I had a nightmare…" He mumbled.

Eda overheard this and decided to give some advice. "Whenever I have nightmares, I just punch my way out of it!"

King grumbled, shifting in his sleep.

"I don't wanna punch them though…" The Collector looked down at their feet. "I'm not good at punching stuff."

" But ," Eda continued their sentence for them, "You are good at throwing a bunch of magical star-shaped things. Turn the nightmares into stuffed animals!"

The Collector hummed at this. Camila caught Eda's eye and gave her a grateful smile.

Vee walked back to the table, the phone in her hand, turned off.

"I told them that you were busy right now, they said they'd call back later, but- but-"

Camila turned to her, confused. "What is it? Who was it?"

Vee anxiously fiddled with her hands. She leaned in and said, "It was the government. They say they have other parents dealing with a similar situation to yours."

Camila blinked, her brow furrowing. "We've only put up a few posters, and so far we've disguised you all from the public eye…"

Vee shrugged, trying to lighten the mood.

"Did they give us a place?"

"If 'Los Angeles' is a place, then yes."

" Los Angeles ?! That's miles away!" Camila was (almost) sure this was a scam call by now.

"They did say something about a private flight…"

"I'm my own private flight." Eda declared, calmly flaring her harpy's wings.

The Collector giggled.

"- And something about coming to pick you up." Vee added. Camila felt her heart sink. If the government found out she was housing strange magical beings from another world, they could tax her into oblivion. She could lose everything, and the portal to the Boiling Isles would surely be destroyed.

Three loud pounding knocks on the front door made everyone fall silent.

"Camila Noceda?"
