Chapter 149 - Soul Sand, the Natural Counter to Souls
"Suiyang?"
Jing Yuan, suddenly receiving a call from Fu Zhu, sounded a little surprised. He quickly replied, "Fu Zhu, didn't I already tell you about them when you asked me for intel on Phantylia?"
Fu Zhu paused for a moment. The words Jing Yuan had spoken back then immediately surfaced in his mind. He slapped his forehead in embarrassment. "My bad, I forgot. Well, that's all for now."
Just as Fu Zhu was about to hang up, Jing Yuan quickly stopped him. "Wait a moment, Fu Zhu. For you to suddenly ask about Suiyang again, don't tell me you've encountered one?"
As the General of the Luofu, Jing Yuan was well aware that during the chaos Phantylia had stirred up, the Suiyang sealed within the Ten-Lords Commission had taken the opportunity to break their seals and escape.
The judges of the Ten-Lords Commission were currently scouring the Luofu for these escapees. For Fu Zhu to suddenly call and ask about this... could it be that he had accidentally run into one of the escaped Suiyang?
"Yeah. My luck is just that good."
Fu Zhu let out a self-deprecating laugh, glancing sideways at Yanqing and Rongju, who were still swinging their swords relentlessly. "After we parted ways, I went to buy something and ran into a Suiyang that wanted to possess me. After dealing with it, I stumbled upon Yanqing, whose mind had been bewitched by another Suiyang. My day has been truly fulfilling."
On the other end of the line, Jing Yuan couldn't help but frown upon hearing of Fu Zhu's ordeal. His voice carried a hint of apology. "My apologies, Fu Zhu. This was a lapse in the Luofu's security. On behalf of the Ten-Lords Commission, I apologize to you."
"It's nothing. Trouble always follows the Nameless, you know. I'm used to it."
Jing Yuan could only manage a dry laugh. He couldn't exactly agree with that statement. While Fu Zhu and his friends could joke about being trouble magnets, he couldn't say the same. He quickly changed the subject.
"I will urge the Ten-Lords Commission to expedite the capture of all escaped Suiyang. Also, could you provide me with information on those two Suiyang? It would help me inform the Commission."
"Sure. One called Spendthrift has already been dealt with by me. The other is named Rongju, and it's currently working for me. Oh right, should I kill this one too?"
As he spoke, Fu Zhu cast a dangerous glare at Rongju, who was controlling the [Wooden Puppet] to hack at the practice dummy.
Though it had no physical body, Rongju suddenly felt a chill and hurriedly increased the speed of the [Wooden Puppet]'s swings.
"That won't be necessary. I'll have someone come and take custody of it shortly. Just give me your location."
"Alright. I'm at the Martial Arts Training Ground right now. I'll be here when your people arrive. That's all."
Fu Zhu hung up, then took out a block and placed it on the ground, plopping down onto it to supervise Yanqing and Rongju as they swung their swords.
A few minutes later, the [Wooden Puppet] controlled by Rongju shattered with a crack. Fu Zhu immediately walked over and picked up the shining soul fragment that had fallen to the ground.
[Proud Soul Fragment: Rongju's Techniques]
"Tsk, tsk. I can't believe it can even copy the techniques of a Suiyang. This is great."
Once again praising the SlashBlade mod, Fu Zhu snapped his fingers at Rongju. "Thanks for your hard work. You can go back to the Ten-Lords Commission to rest now."
"What?!"
Hearing this, Rongju was instantly enraged. "Human, you go back on your word!"
"Go back on my word?"
Fu Zhu retorted with a smile. "Pray tell, when did I ever make you a promise?"
"You... You're despicable! We'll see about this!"
Rongju instantly realized it had been used by this despicable human. It immediately turned and flew toward the sky.
Seeing this, Fu Zhu unhurriedly took out a few blocks of soul sand he had casually picked up when he entered the Nether to deal with Phantylia, and placed them on the ground.
The moment the soul sand appeared, the ambient temperature seemed to drop a few degrees. Even Yanqing, who was swinging his sword nearby, couldn't help but shiver.
Fu Zhu also felt the change in temperature, which surprised him. Soul sand was supposed to be a block from the high-temperature environment of the Nether, yet it felt so cold.
However, now was not the time to study soul sand. Fu Zhu took out a fishing rod and cast the hook toward Rongju, who was already halfway up to the ceiling. The hook landed precisely on its body.
By the time Rongju noticed something seemed to be attached to its spiritual form, it was too late. The next moment, it felt an immense and irresistible force pulling it back down toward the ground, where it landed on the soul sand.
Before Rongju could even turn around to see how Fu Zhu had managed to pull it back, it suddenly noticed it had landed on a patch of eerie sand.
And as it landed, countless, slender hands of spirits emerged from the sand, grabbing hold of its spiritual form and attempting to drag it down into the sand itself.
"St-stop! Don't!"
This bizarre scene instantly threw Rongju into a panic. No matter how hard it struggled, it could not break free from the grasp of the spirit hands that emerged from the soul sand. It was like an ant facing a bird, completely unable to resist.
Fu Zhu watched as Rongju was gradually submerged, half of its body already sunk into the soul sand. He squatted down and asked with a cheerful grin, "I'll give you one more chance. Would you rather stay with the Ten-Lords Commission, or in this soul sand? I'm not sure what the prisons in the Ten-Lords Commission are like, but I'm absolutely certain they're much better than this soul sand."
"I want to go back to the Ten-Lords Commission!" Rongju immediately gave its answer.
Compared to the soul sand, it much preferred the environment of the Ten-Lords Commission. At least there, it had its own kind to chat with.
"That's more like it!"
Fu Zhu snapped his fingers in satisfaction, but he made no move to pull Rongju out, nor did he intend to destroy the soul sand.
Rongju was stunned. It hurriedly asked Fu Zhu, "Human, get me out of here! I'm going to die!"
"And if I let you out, what if you try to run again? Just stay put. If you're lucky enough, the people from the Ten-Lords Commission might get here before you die. Try to survive."
After saying this, Fu Zhu walked away to supervise Yanqing's sword practice.
"You detestable human!!!"
A minute later, several bailiffs from the Ten-Lords Commission walked into the Training Ground. The moment they saw Fu Zhu, they approached and bowed.
"Lord Fu Zhu, we are here under the General's orders to retrieve the escaped Suiyang."
Fu Zhu didn't even turn his head, simply pointing a thumb toward the soul sand nearby. "There. It's in the soul sand. You'd better hurry, or it'll be dead soon."
The bailiffs all turned to look at the soul sand. All they could see of the reddish spiritual form was a tiny wisp still sticking out of the brown sand. Rongju was almost completely consumed, unable to even make a sound.
"Not good!"
The bailiffs rushed over, intending to pull Rongju out. Although Suiyang were a menace to the Luofu, they were still useful. They couldn't let it die here.
However, the moment one of the bailiffs touched the soul sand, her head lolled to the side and she collapsed in a faint.
"This is bad, Lord Fu Zhu!"
