This Doctor Is Too Wealthy

Chapter 95: 095 Prodigal Son Returns

"Why roll your eyes? Did I say something wrong? You just never treated us like brothers," Wei Kaida said, stiffening his neck.

Du Heng leaned forward and looked earnestly into Wei Kaida's eyes. "Brother, you work at your family's clinic. Why would your name need to be on it? Do you need that?"

Wei Kaida choked, then said, "Right. Guess having my name on it is pretty useless. I don't need it." I was getting worked up over nothing. How embarrassing.

However, his eyes shifted, and he immediately added, "You're right, I don't need it. But what about Old Jin? He works in the hospital and needs to be promoted too. Why isn't his name on it?"

Du Heng was speechless; he'd had enough of Wei Kaida's ignorance. "Brother, can you please learn a bit about promotion rules? Don't be so clueless. Old Jin is in orthopedics now, and he's registered in Traditional Chinese Medicine Orthopedics. My paper is an Internal Medicine Department paper. What good would putting his name on it do? Help him switch specialties to get promoted to deputy senior?"

Wei Kaida looked at Jin Zan dubiously. "You're registered in orthopedics?"

Jin Zan rolled his eyes. "Have you poured all your brainpower into chasing girls? I've been in this field for six years, and you don't know?"

"I didn't know! Ma Ti'er and I are both registered in traditional Chinese medicine general practice. I thought you were too."

Jin Zan didn't want to talk to this fool anymore.

Wei Kaida laughed awkwardly. "My bad, my bad. I'll drink to that."

Saying so, he picked up a glass in front of him and drained it in one gulp, all very casually.

"Old Dong, since you're in charge of this, Ma Ti'er's review should be fine, right?" Wei Kaida steered the conversation to Dong Yuezhang.

"Goes without saying. I'll handle it as soon as I'm back at work. I'll make sure it's done perfectly for our brother," Dong Yuezhang said nonchalantly. To him, it really wasn't a big deal.

However, he then turned to Wei Kaida. "Look, Old Jin has a bright future, and Ma Ti'er is also working hard to advance. You're the only one left. How long do you plan on messing around like this?"

Wei Kaida chuckled. "I've decided to settle down. I'm going to learn seriously from My Dad."

"Really?"

"Really."

"That doesn't sound like you. I thought you'd say you wanted to play around for another couple of years."

"Hehe, I've found true love. I need to strive for the person I love."

The three others present were all taken aback. They hadn't expected Wei Kaida, the libertine, to say such words.

"Who is it? Do we know her?"

"Quick, tell us! Which fairy managed to tame a rogue like you?"

Only Du Heng's eyelids twitched. Could it be Li Nating? No way, right? Impossible!

Wei Kaida composed himself. "Hmm, Ma Ti'er knows her. She's a nurse at their Health Clinic, named Li Nating."

Du Heng's eyelids jumped wildly. I can't believe it's true.

"Brother, you only met her for the first time the day before yesterday. Are you sure?" Du Heng asked incredulously.

"You, a love idiot, what would you understand? It was love at first sight for us."

Dong Yuezhang laughed. "All 'love at first sight' is just lust at first sight."

Li Nating. Although Du Heng had worked in the same unit with her for two or three years, and they had been colleagues for that long, he didn't really know her that well.

In the past, Du Heng was like an invisible man, completely unnoticed in Li Nating's eyes. Du Heng was also quiet and insecure, so he kept his distance from a beauty like Li Nating. Consequently, apart from merely knowing each other, they barely interacted.

Any interaction they did have had only occurred in the past two months, and it was because Du Heng suddenly displayed outstanding abilities that he came into contact with Li Nating, who always took the initiative.

Of course, having worked together for two or three years, Du Heng had heard some rumors.

I knew I couldn't handle a woman like that, but for Wei Kaida, it's different.

If they're both sincere, and it makes Wei Kaida settle down, that would be a wonderful outcome for everyone.

However, thinking of Li Nating made Du Heng also think of another woman from the Health Clinic, Zhang Jinlian.

A small incident from the past flashed through his mind.

At the end of March, he had invited Wu Buwei and Ma Zichen for a meal. At that time, Ma Zichen had gone over to greet an "Uncle Su," whom he introduced as the section chief of the Human Resources Department at the Third Hospital. Zhang Jinlian had been there too.

"What a damn schemer!" Du Heng cursed aloud.

No wonder I was so inexplicably transferred to the Third Hospital. I'd bet my life this is connected.

"What's wrong?" The other three looked at Du Heng in confusion, wondering why he had suddenly started cursing.

Du Heng recounted what he had just remembered and his conflict with Zhang Jinlian. The other three listened, exchanging bewildered glances, completely unable to understand the scheme.

Dong Yuezhang thought for a moment and spoke first. "Pushing someone they have a conflict with to a better workplace doesn't seem logical. I can think of two possible reasons. First, Ma Ti'er's outstanding performance these past few months might have made your colleague feel threatened, perhaps regarding promotions or bonuses, so they had to get you out of the way."

"Second, the Third Hospital isn't actually that great of a workplace. Compared to other hospitals, they're only slightly better than infectious disease hospitals. However, the potential for unexpected incidents is much higher there; you never know when or how a patient might have an episode."

"Furthermore, since they're pulling you over, they certainly won't assign you any good tasks. It'll definitely be difficult and tiring work. And you don't have experience dealing with mental patients. One small mistake, and if they give a little push from behind the scenes, you might not be able to practice as a doctor anymore."

Dong Yuezhang looked at Du Heng. "You were right not to agree."

Du Heng felt a bit relieved. No wonder Zhang Jinlian congratulated me so uncharacteristically the other evening; that was the root of it all.

What an ingenious plan.

Which grassroots doctor wouldn't want to get into a Big Hospital, or want better pay and benefits? Such a temptation, anyone would surely agree.

But they didn't count on me being someone immune to temptation. All their scheming has come to nothing.

"Forget her. I'm not planning to go anyway. Whatever she plotted is a waste of her effort."

"Exactly! We won't fall for her trap. Let her fume."

The group chuckled and moved on from the topic, starting a second round of their drinking contest.

Jin Zan was the first to pass out, Dong Yuezhang the last.

Looking at the three sprawled out, Du Heng once again became the porter. This role had started back in their school days and continued to the present.

However, he was happy to do it. After all, I can't drink, and that does tend to spoil the fun a bit.

With the help of a waiter, Du Heng got the three of them into Wei Kaida's luxury off-road vehicle and then drove them home one by one.

Dong Yuezhang's wife, Li Yuan, was a college classmate, and they were all quite close.

She came out with a wheelchair to meet them, clearly experienced. Looking at her very drunk husband, she said to Du Heng, "He's only like this with you guys. In front of me and our child, he's always so proper."

"Your husband is destined for great things; he has to be serious."

"Come up and sit for a while?"

"Not today. You see, there are still two more in the car."

Li Yuan glanced at the car. "How did Jin Zan get so drunk too? Doesn't he usually stay sober?"

"I don't know. He really let loose today, not like his usual reserved self. Maybe something's on his mind."

"Alright, I'll take Dong upstairs then. You hurry and get those two home."

Next, Du Heng took Jin Zan home. When they arrived downstairs, however, his wife didn't come down, so Du Heng had to carry him up himself.

Du Heng had only met Jin Zan's wife twice: once at their wedding, and once when Jin Zan, then a newly promoted attending physician, had gotten drunk and Du Heng had taken him home. This was the third time. Seeing the cold demeanor of Jin Zan's wife as she opened the door, Du Heng said nothing, simply put Jin Zan down, and left without an extra word.

As for the last one, Wei Kaida, he was, of course, taken back to his mother's place.
