This Danzo Is Weird!

Chapter 37: 37. Calm Down

The first reaction from Fuguki Suikazan and the others was sheer confusion—What the hell is this?

But their confusion was short-lived. They immediately noticed the densely packed black seals inscribed on the papers and the large 爆 ("explosive") character in the center.

A powerful sense of danger swept over them in an instant.

"Explosive tags! Get out of the way!"

Fuguki retreated without hesitation, holding Samehada in front of him as a shield.

The others were similarly alarmed and scattered in all directions.

Moments later, a series of deafening explosions engulfed the battlefield, reducing the lush forest around them to scorched ruins.

Only the area where Might Duy stood remained untouched by the blasts.

Just as he was about to open the Eighth Gate, Duy noticed the peculiarity and immediately stopped. He quickly deduced that reinforcements had arrived.

After all, who would choose death if there was still a chance to live?

His intuition proved correct.

As the smoke from the explosions cleared, carried away by a gust of wind, a figure descended from the sky and landed beside Might Duy.

"You are... Lord Danzo!"

As an experienced genin, Duy instantly recognized the infamously notorious elder of Konoha.

Turning to look around, he couldn't help but ask the same question as Ebisu had earlier:

"Lord Danzo, where are the others?"

"There are no others. It's just me."

Danzo gave a kind smile, his gaze filled with admiration as he looked at Might Duy.

Unlike those who merely paid lip service to the Will of Fire, Duy not only preached about youth and the Will of Fire but also possessed the unwavering determination and strength to embody it.

This was the true Will of Fire, one that Danzo genuinely acknowledged.

But Duy had no time to consider Danzo's approval. He silently began channeling his chakra, preparing to reopen the Eighth Gate for a final battle.

"Lord Danzo, your position is far too important. Please allow me to handle this fight!"

Standing firmly in front of Danzo, Duy spoke with righteous determination.

Although Danzo didn't have the best reputation in the village, Duy believed that if someone had to sacrifice themselves, it should be him. After all, Danzo had put himself in danger to save him.

For that alone, Duy felt it was his duty to protect him without hesitation.

Before Duy could burn himself out, Danzo placed a hand on his shoulder, stopping him.

This was to prevent the overzealous Duy from opening the Eighth Gate prematurely. Otherwise, Danzo's long journey here would've been for nothing.

"Duy, I acknowledge your youth and the Will of Fire!"

Danzo slowly stepped forward, positioning himself in front of Might Duy.

"But you're not the only one here who possesses the Will of Fire!"

Danzo removed the upper half of his cloak, letting it drift away in the wind, and solemnly declared:

"If we are to uphold the Will of Fire, then let this old man lead the way!"

"Lord Danzo..."

Duy looked at Danzo's back, which suddenly seemed as towering as a mountain.

"So this is the legendary Darkness of the Shinobi..."

Fuguki Suikazan emerged from the dissipating smoke, his massive figure stepping over a scorched tree trunk. He aimed Samehada at the two of them with a menacing glare.

"Since you're so eager to uphold the Will of Fire, I'll send you on your way together!"

As Fuguki Suikazan declared this, six other wielders of the Seven Ninja Swords emerged from the smoke, their eyes gleaming with predatory ambition.

As one of the most infamous assassin groups in the ninja world, each member of the Seven Ninja Swordsmen, empowered by their legendary blades, possessed strength far surpassing that of an average jonin.

Under their relentless, wolf-like assault, the Konoha forces led by Mitokado Homura had been utterly defeated. Even the renowned Uchiha and Hyuga clans were no match for them.

This overwhelming success had boosted their confidence to the point of arrogance. They were already planning the demands they would make of Konoha after capturing Homura. And if Konoha refused? They were prepared to launch a direct attack.

"It seems Homura's incompetence has given you all some unrealistic fantasies," Danzo sneered, his face full of disdain.

To him, having both the Uchiha and Hyuga clans at his disposal yet still losing to Kirigakure was the mark of a useless leader—a failure among failures.

Of course, Danzo did not deny the strength of the seven opponents before him.

If he had come alone, he might have had some cause for concern.

But this time, he had brought that man.

And so, he wasn't the least bit worried.

Danzo's arrogant demeanor instantly drew the ire of his opponents.

"Hmph, big talk! Let me see if you're any tougher than the last Konoha advisor, who pissed himself in fear!"

The first to attack was Jinin Akebino, wielding the Kabutowari (Blunt Sword).

This man was particularly... aggressive.

"Die!"

Swinging his massive axe, he created a fierce gust of wind, the weapon roaring as it hurtled toward Danzo.

Danzo, however, simply smirked.

He had already noticed a tiny slip of paper attached to Jinin's waist. Written on it were the words: "Sword of Ninja Love."

Before Jinin's axe could strike, a flash of yellow lightning streaked across the battlefield.

Then came the gleam of a blade, swift as a thunderbolt.

What just happened?

Jinin, still caught in the fantasy of cleaving his enemy in half, suddenly found his vision tilting.

The next moment, his head was severed clean from his shoulders, blood gushing as his world turned upside down.

The battlefield stilled, and only a golden-haired figure remained standing, his hair fluttering gently in the breeze.

"Thud!"

Jinin's lifeless body crashed heavily to the ground, the sound echoing like a thunderclap in the hearts of the remaining swordsmen.

One of the legendary Seven Ninja Swordsmen had been killed in a single strike.

Hearing the dull thud, Biwa Juzo felt a chill run down his spine.

When he finally recognized the enemy, he shouted in alarm:

"It's the Yellow Flash of Konoha! Check yourselves—he might've left a mark on you!"

Panic spread as everyone frantically inspected their surroundings and their own bodies.

Danzo's lips curled into a faint smile.

Forming hand seals slowly and deliberately, he said, "Wood Style: Deep Forest Emergence."

In an instant, the surrounding trees began to grow wildly, their branches twisting into monstrous tendrils that lashed out at the six remaining swordsmen.

"Damn it, it's Wood Style!"

Fuguki swung Samehada viciously, shredding the attacking roots, but his earlier confidence was nowhere to be found.

The others fared no better.

Yellow Flash and Wood Style—either of these alone spelled death. Together, they were unstoppable.

The rampaging trees separated the group into two halves.

Fuguki Suikazan, Jinpachi Munashi, and Mangetsu Hozuki were on one side, while Biwa Juzo, Raiga Kurosuki, and Kuriarare Kushimaru were on the other.

"The right side is yours, Minato," Danzo said calmly before charging toward Fuguki's group.
