Chapter 261: Rule Object
The sun clocked out and night descended, today creatures crawled out again.
Wei Li was particularly tense, partly because he worried someone might continue to attract creatures, and partly due to that someone's suddenly strange temperament.
When the Red Moon started to emit its glow, he observed hordes of creatures charging towards them from the distant horizon.
Fortunately, there weren't as many monsters; at least not the surging tide seen the day before. They were sparse and scattered around four directions, with a bit more converging towards the North City Gate.
"The first wave of creatures is coming, we've got roughly... two thousand or so on our side," Wei Li stated, holding up binoculars.
As he spoke, Solunya had already drawn her bow, and a shimmering light arrow was slowly forming.
The Abyss Creatures that came shortly after nightfall weren't very strong, and players with long-range attacks could nearly wipe them out from a distance.
Normally at this time, other players eager to claim creatures for their tasks would choose to leave the city to hunt, but the previous day's dark tide was so terrifying that no one showed any intention of leaving yet.
Solunya released just one arrow, and along with players in other watchtowers they killed half of the creatures, the other half they let charge towards them.
When the charging mass of creatures got within range, the long-range players pulled out their weapons and abilities.
Wei Li continued to observe through the binoculars, not joining the fight.
Because he had completed his kill quest yesterday.
In fact, most long-range players completed their kill quests the day before, so they had no need to compete with other players for creatures. After diminishing the charge's power, the rest was left to other players to farm.
So when the second wave was taken care of, only about a hundred or two creatures remained at the foot of the city wall...
This was mainly because a large number congregated at the North City Gate; the other gates were lucky to have even tens of creatures. Experience tales with empire
During normal times, if melee players didn't venture out to hunt creatures, it was anyone's guess how many days they'd need to defend the city to complete their kill tasks.
Xu Shuo lost himself in thought as he watched the creatures climbing below, his fingers idly playing with the fruit knife he had pulled out.
Feels like... defending the city is pretty straightforward?
With no worries about Abyssal corruption and surrounded by capable teammates, the danger was even lower than in a level three assessment scenario.
Xu Shuo propped his chin up, bored.
The first wave of attacks ended simply like that, with the Abyss creatures unable to climb the walls and being bombarded by countless players' skills at the base of the wall.
However, after seeing that tonight's Abyssal invasion was much like the first day's, players who hadn't left the Giant Fortress all breathed a quiet sigh of relief.
It seemed yesterday's anomaly had come to an end.
Just then, Wei Li, who hadn't stopped scanning with his binoculars, spoke up again, "Those insects are flying here too, so fast!"
As he said this, he had already set down his binoculars and rapidly pulled out his futuristic looking assault rifle.
In the distant skies, a swarm of fang-filled creatures with flesh wings approached, their dark and ferocious bodies highlighted by the sky's scarlet light, casting an eerie pall.
They resembled devils from ancient myths, ugly, malevolent, and ferocious.
Not only did the avian creatures possess the ability to fly, but their attack speed was lightning-fast. Wei Li joined the battle as well.
Xu Shuo lazily leaned on the balustrade of the watchtower, one leg casually dangling over the edge, watching the dark shapes circling in the pitch-black sky, eying him intently.
Though there weren't as many creatures as the day before, there were also fewer players around, so the watchtower was somewhat pressed to handle them.
One of the creatures circling in the sky focused on the person below; in an instant, the dark silhouette streaked through the night sky, charging down!
Wei Li and Solunya could only attend to both sides. By the time Wei Li noticed the creature attacking from the flank, it was too late to attack.
But in the next moment, he saw a flash of blinding cold light from the young man's hand, and as Xu Shuo's raised arm sliced through the air towards the fast-approaching creature, it instantly turned to ash.
Wei Li's eyes were wide, mouth agape, momentarily forgetting to fire.
When Xu Shuo activated "One-Click Kill," Solunya, who was drawing her bow at the time, suddenly glanced his way. Her expressionless face showed a ripple of surprise in her eyes.
This thing, it kind of had the semblance of a "Rule Object."
An ability that could bypass all obstructions if certain conditions were met; even defying common sense, it delved into the realm of rules.
Solunya didn't possess this thing, but she knew someone who did have a Rule Item. It wasn't surprising to her that Xu Shuo had one, given his exceptional mentor.
However, such uniquely powerful things were usually a player's last resort to save their life.
And this guy... used it to kill minions.
The creatures circling North Tower No.1 were mostly targeting Xu Shuo. Wei Li and Solunya took positions on the left and right to attack, but still, many creatures broke through the barrage of firepower, charging at the nonchalantly seated young man.
He just leaned there casually, one leg bent with his elbow propped on his knee and chin resting on his hand, looking utterly indifferent.
