Chapter 337: Like, like and like.
Alix grabbed the glass of wine and took a big sip. She gulped it down and looked at him, still doubting what she had just heard from him.
"You...I..." she picked up the glass again.
He tugged on her arm and shook his head. She put the wine glass down and stared at him, blinking a few times as if she was in a daze.
He took both of her hands in his and tugged on them slowly until she was standing between his legs as close as she could.
"I am serious, i like you." He said strongly. "I like having you around, i like it when you smile at me, because of me and for me. I like it that you say what the fruit because it's stupidly adorable.
I like the way you smell like fruit, sometimes it's apple, other times strawberry, oranges, peaches or coconuts and vanilla.
I like the fact that you want me and you have never once looked at me as less of a man just because my legs are faulty.
I like the way that you care about my family and you accepted Xiaobo without a question or complaint. You were nice to Zhang An when she was terrible to you and you indulge my brother in his acting stories. Most of all, you tolerate my grandmother's nosiness into our lives with grace.
I like the way that you care about me. You always make sure that i eat, that i get my treatment done on time and i rest. I like it when you play the cello, violin, piano and other instruments because you look so radiant and you make others feel at ease with your playing.
I like the fact that you are clumsy and disorderly because it makes....it...., it just makes our house feel like home. I like seeing your socks, coats, gloves and other clothes carelessly thrown in the bedroom because it means you are there, you are home and you are waiting for me.
I like the way you eat as if every meal could be your last on earth. I like the way you are kind and polite to others without a care about frivolous things status.
I like your strength and ability to keep going even in the hardest of situations. You don't give up easily on things you believe in or the people you love.
I like...."
She lowered herself and put a hand over his mouth.
He used his right hand to remove her hand from his mouth and placed it against his cheek.
Softly, he said, "I like you Alix, no surname."
He giggled when he said that because she said that sometimes to people that still referred to her as Lin.
He continued on after a little pause, "I feel like my stomach is turning and i am light headed but i have to tell you this because i think i will go insane if i don't say something. I like you, for real. I am not joking, i like you so much that i find myself missing you at the most unlikely times..."
Again, Alix covered his mouth with her free hand. Playfully, he nibbled her hand with his teeth.
He didn't realize it but she was experiencing shock of great magnitudes. Her hands were not washed or sanitized and he hadn't even bothered to wipe them or wipe his mouth simply because she had touched it.
She pulled her hand away and laughed shakily.
"Do you like me?" he asked her.
"Ah!" She responded.
"Do you like me?" he asked, again. "Liking someone and loving someone are two different things. Like is mostly physical while love is said to be spiritual, soul deep. I cannot profess love to you yet but i cannot deny that i am deeply attracted to you for so many reasons and i want the chance for us to grow together as a a couple. If we continue getting along as well as we do, i believe that love will be injected into the relationship naturally."
He was not soft spoken this time round, but he did sound so business like. He talked like a man that was trying to close a business deal.
"Do you like me?" he asked again, for the third time.
He bore a look of patience on his face on his face but deep inside, he was anything but patient. His mind was racing and so was his heart.
Their marriage had started off a lot different from other people's marriages or relationships. They had agreed to give the marriage a chance because it was a done deal and they were already there so they might as well do their best.
Even though she had claimed to like him many times, he had never truly believed her. But now that he liked her, he was a little desperate to hear the words straight from her mouth.
I like, her. he thought. At first the thought was like a realization, silent and firm. I like my wife, he thought again. Du Fuzi was right, he had somehow caught feelings for his wife.
His hands slacked and he let go of hers without realizing. In turn, she grasped his hands and wrapped hers firmly around his, as much as she could.
While he had been coming to terms with his emotions, so was she. Like was good thing and it's declaration too was good. It put less pressure on them both as compared to wild declarations of love so soon into their relationship.
Like was good, she could handle like, she thought.
"Do you like him?" the system asked her.
Rather than answer the system, she looked down at her husband whose head was lowered. He seemed to be deep in thought. She could feel the trembling in his hands.
It must have taken a lot for him to come out and tell her how he felt about her. He was not a man of many words and often he just sat back and watched her babble on about this and that.
However, this man had just mentioned a lot of things that he liked about her, included some of her bad vices. What was not to like about him?
"Caishen, look at me." she said.
He lifted his head and did as she said.
"I like." she told him. "I like you so much, more than chocolate."
Immediately after making the declaration, her facial expression changed. Shyness came over her face and she blushed a little. She let go of his hands and buried her face in her now free hands.
She mumbled vaguely, "I am going to pack my bag since we are spending the night at your mother's place."
Just like her younger brothers had escaped her, she chose to run away from him. This declaration of feelings was very embarrassing. She also knew that Nanny Wang was hiding like a spy and watching them. It would be best if they didn't say anything more for now.
