chapter 55
Chapter 55, Invitation
“Turns out you’re already married.”
Mu En glanced at Ailuka’s ring finger, which he hadn’t noticed before; now he saw a diamond ring sparkling there.
“Yeah, just got married last night.”
“Last night?”
Mu En was taken aback.
Is it common to get married at night?
“It must be a different custom,” he thought, not dwelling on it too much.
After all, this is another world. He had seen men robbing while searching for true love; what else was impossible?
“Congratulations on your marriage, Ailuka.”
“Thank you.”
“By the way, on your first day of marriage, you’re out here in the wilderness?” Mu En asked, puzzled.
“I went to Belrand to handle some matters regarding my husband’s work, and I thought I’d pick up a few things along the way.” Ailuka pointed to the small backpack behind her.
“Work…”
Mu En took a look at Ailuka’s outfit and the badge with a sword emblem on her chest.
“You’re an adventurer, right? Is your husband one too?”
“Yes, but because of our marriage, we both decided to take a break from adventuring for now. That’s why I’m stopping by the guild to let them know, so they don’t think we’ve gone missing and label us as dead. The guild has had quite a few mix-ups like that every year.”
“I see.”
Mu En smiled, “On your first day of marriage, you have to do so much; you really are working hard.”
“Not at all.”
Ailuka’s cheeks flushed slightly, “To have a better married life, these things are necessary.”
“Haha, it seems you two are quite affectionate.”
Mu En said, “I’m a bit curious about your husband; after all, to win the heart of someone as beautiful as you, he must be an exceptional person.”
“You sweet talker, you must have charmed quite a few women,” Ailuka laughed, covering her mouth. “My husband is just an ordinary guy, but he really loves me.”
“Nonsense, I don’t even have a girlfriend right now,” Mu En sighed dramatically.
“What a pity I didn’t meet you sooner; otherwise, I could have crashed your wedding and met a bridesmaid or something.”
“Not a chance,” Ailuka joked.
“How unfair…”
“By the way, my home is by the lake at the end of this river. Would you like to come by for a visit?” Ailuka suddenly said, “After all, you could be considered my savior for rescuing me from those bandits.”
“How can that be considered saving? In the end, it’s still up to you.”
Mu En awkwardly scratched his head. If it weren’t for Eluka’s timely help, he would probably have been taken back by that scar-faced man to become the village’s wife.
“As for visiting your home…”
Mu En thought for a moment.
Usually, it wouldn’t be a problem.
But now, the couple had just gotten married and were in the midst of enjoying their time together. It seemed a bit inappropriate for him to intrude as a third wheel.
“Maybe it’s best to skip it. I’ll just…”
Gulp—
Just as Mu En was about to decline, his words were suddenly interrupted by a deep rumble.
“Eh, was that thunder?”
Eluka jumped in surprise and looked up at the sky.
But she found it was a clear day, with not a cloud in sight.
In her confusion, she suddenly noticed Mu En’s cheeks were flushed, as if he had been caught hiding a forbidden book under his bed.
“You…”
“Haha…”
Mu En forced an awkward laugh.
Damn, he had completely forgotten that he hadn’t eaten anything for a whole day and night.
Combined with the intense exercise, he was already so hungry that his stomach was pressed against his back.
“I see.”
A mischievous smile crept onto Eluka’s lips as she touched her cheek, feigning regret:
“Since Mr. Mu En is unwilling, there’s nothing I can do. After all, I can’t force you. It’s just a pity that I was planning to make a feast tonight, and it seems it will only be for me and an outsider.”
“A feast…”
“That’s right, a whole roasted lamb.”
“Gulp, a whole roasted lamb.”
“Alas, it’s a bit difficult for two people to finish an entire roasted lamb, but it can’t be helped, I suppose…”
“I’m terribly sorry, Miss Eluka, oh no, Mrs. Eluka.”
Under the temptation of the roasted lamb, Mu En clasped his hands together in a shameless plea:
“Please let me shamelessly tag along for dinner!”
“Oh, but didn’t you say you wouldn’t come?”
“Who said that? Even if I turned into a thousand-watt light bulb today, glowing and heating up at any moment, I still have to taste Mrs. Eluka’s cooking!”
“You really know how to flatter.”
Eluka, who had no intention of teasing Mu En, couldn’t help but smile slightly:
“Then let’s go.”
“Thank you, Lady Eluka!”
Mu En was overjoyed, leaning on a wooden stick he had casually picked up, following Eluka towards the lake at the end of the river.
……
I love you.
……
Hmm?
Mu En suddenly frowned and looked around.
Strange, it seemed he had just heard someone speaking.
“Um… Eluka?”
“Yes? Is there something?”
“Did you say something?”
“What did I say?”
Eluka turned her head, puzzled:
“I didn’t say anything.”
“That’s really strange. Could it be that I’ve been hungry for too long and am hearing things?”
Mu En scratched his head, not paying it much mind.
Then a gentle breeze blew, the leaves rustled, covering up all the discordant sounds.
……
“This is my village.”
Mu En followed Eluka and arrived at a small fishing village by the lake.
“Hey? Not bad at all.”
Mu En looked up from the entrance of the village, seeing the clear lake and pleasant scenery.
And he recognized that this was indeed Beipol Lake, where he had come to visit with his family last year.
“To be able to live in a scenic area and see such beautiful views anytime is really enviable.”
“Not that exaggerated.”
Eluka smiled shyly and said, “No matter how beautiful the scenery, after a while, it becomes ordinary, and living by the lake has its own inconveniences.”
“But it still feels great overall.”
Having regained some strength, Mu En tossed aside the stick, cradled his head, and felt the gentle breeze from the lake brushing against his face, fully enjoying this hard-won moment of tranquility.
Upon careful reflection, ever since I crossed over to this world, I have been chased by all sorts of matters, as if I have never truly relaxed.
It is precisely for this reason that I am able to appreciate this beauty even more.
“Let’s go.”
Feeling that the time was right, Ailuka led Mu’en deeper into the village.
“It’s so quiet here.”
Mu’en looked around and found that all the houses had their doors tightly shut, not a single sign of life in sight.
“Because everyone is busy right now.”
Ailuka explained:
“The autumn fish are fattening up, and the harvest is about to begin, so the villagers are almost all out working. It’s quite normal for them to stay overnight on their boats or in the fields.”
“That sounds really tough.”
“Indeed, everything is piled up together, and even the children can’t take a break. But this is what we call the harvest season; once this period passes, only joy will remain.”
Ailuka suddenly stopped in front of a small courtyard gate, a hint of delight in her voice as she said:
“We’ve arrived.”
