chapter 159
84, Little Thief
—
“Lorenzo is here!”
This shout ignited a torch in the darkness, drawing all eyes toward it.
“Damn it, Lorenzo, you better hand over the Dragon’s Blood!”
After a flurry of shots, Sam quickly reloaded his arrows under the cover of his subordinates, shouting angrily at Lorenzo.
At this point, there was nothing left to consider; he had to get the Dragon’s Blood first.
“Lorenzo!”
Meanwhile, Schulzi struck down an elite member of the Red Fire Gang with his cane, his expression fierce, clearly in a bloodthirsty frenzy, directly leading the mob forward!
Regardless of who had initially sparked the hatred, once the chaotic battle began, influenced by the Dragon’s Blood, Lorenzo was still faintly besieged.
Even some restless wild dogs charged in at this moment, and what infuriated him even more was that since just now, that elusive shadow had been weaving through the crowd around him.
In just a minute, he had taken several blows to the head, even mixed in with despicable tactics like below-the-belt strikes; if it weren’t for the strength of his magical armor, he surely would have lost something!
“Damn it!”
Lorenzo was nearly furious to the point of explosion. He shoved the metal container in his hand into his trusted subordinate’s, saying, “You hold this for me; I’m going to drag that despicable little man out and kill him!”
“Got it!”
The subordinate smiled, revealing his big white teeth.
Lorenzo felt a slight unease, but in the chaos, he didn’t think much of it and charged into the crowd with his knife!
With the addition of Lorenzo’s formidable strength, the situation stabilized immediately. Although he still couldn’t find that despicable little man, he had opened a path for his teammates.
Beside him, the subordinate kicked away a rat trying to sneak attack and approached Lorenzo, panting heavily as he said, “Boss, what do we do next?”
“What do we do? Of course, we escort the Dragon’s Blood safely…”
As he spoke, Lorenzo suddenly stopped, staring intently at his subordinate’s hands, dazedly saying, “Where’s the Dragon’s Blood?”
“The Dragon’s Blood?”
The subordinate looked confused. “Isn’t it in your hands, Boss?”
“Nonsense, I clearly just gave it to you!”
Lorenzo grabbed his subordinate by the collar and shook him vigorously. Seeing the innocent expression on his subordinate’s face, he seemed to realize something, and his expression suddenly changed.
“Oh no, it’s a trap!”
He immediately turned his head, and through the gaps in the crowd, he could vaguely see a thin figure wriggling like an eel, darting out of the crowd, pulling off the hood from its head and sprinting away!
Running incredibly fast!
“Stop right there!”
Lorenzo’s mind went blank for a moment, and without thinking further, he turned and chased after the fleeing figure.
“Lorenzo, where do you think you’re running to!”
At that moment, Shurzi led a group of thugs in pursuit, their bodies stained with blood, as if they had long lost their sanity. Ignoring the vast difference in personal strength, they lunged fiercely at Lorenzo.
“Damn it, get away!”
The magic armor on Lorenzo emitted a blazing blue light, his speed and strength suddenly multiplied several times. He swung his fist violently, knocking aside the thugs blocking his path.
But just as he was about to step forward, a surge of crisis erupted within him. The sound of a crossbow being drawn echoed, as Sam and a group of his subordinates once again aimed their magical crossbows at him.
“Lorenzo, hand over the Dragon’s Blood!”
“Damn it, the Dragon’s Blood isn’t in my hands! It was stolen!” Lorenzo roared.
“Do you think I would believe such a clumsy lie?” Sam sneered:
“What kind of thief is so skilled that they could steal something from you?”
“I damn well want to know where that b*stard came from, but he really did run off with the Dragon’s Blood!”
“Save your pathetic lies for hell, to tell the devils down there!”
Sam was utterly unconvinced, the crossbow in his hand still aimed at Lorenzo. He didn’t believe that the magic armor was so powerful that it could continuously block his crossbow bolts!
“Damn it!”
Lorenzo was so furious he nearly spat blood, muttering to himself:
“Please, do something.”
In the next moment.
The air in the entire alley began to swirl chaotically.
It was as if an invisible force was gradually gathering, and then, beneath the low chant masked by the clamor, it suddenly exploded.
With a thunderous roar, everyone instinctively looked up.
A massive fireball soared into the sky, like a small sun, instantly illuminating the entire block.
“Shit.”
Staring blankly at the fireball, Sam couldn’t help but curse:
“Lorenzo, you b*stard, you actually hired a magician? And you dare to let the magician’s people use magic so brazenly? Aren’t you afraid of attracting the guards?”
“Don’t worry, I paid them a bit, they’ll turn a blind eye.”
As Lorenzo thought about the enormous price he would have to pay to settle this matter later, he couldn’t help but feel a pang of heartache. But there was no time to dwell on that now; he pointed to the side and shouted:
“Look at what that person is holding!”
In the darkness illuminated by the small sun, the fleeing figure had nowhere to escape, and the metallic container in their hand, glinting with a sharp sheen, was particularly eye-catching.
Everyone followed the direction of Lorenzo’s finger, and couldn’t help but slap their thighs: the Dragon’s Blood really had been snatched away!
No, this wasn’t the time to think about that.
The Dragon’s Blood was gone; they had to chase after it!
—
The thugs, elites, and rats, just stunned by the massive fireball, went wild once more.
The crowd erupted into chaos, but before those in front could take a step, those behind surged forward. The alley was already narrow, and soon many began to shove and push.
This group of armed and dangerous individuals caused injuries merely through their shoving, and with their eyes already clouded by bloodlust, they had no reason left to talk; they began to shoot right there on the spot.
Blood splattered, and many fell dead on the scene.
“Damn it, what’s the point of fighting now? Hurry up and chase them down!”
Lorenzo pulled his elite subordinates from the melee and once again pursued that shadow. Meanwhile, Sam, positioned advantageously and unaffected by the chaos, raised his crossbow, aimed at the figure, and fired!
In the dimming light, Sam saw the figure blur for a moment, not only dodging his bolt but seemingly propelled by some explosive magic, zipping away into the distance.
“Wow, they run so fast!”
In the confusion, someone exclaimed.
“Can we track him?”
Lorenzo fixed his gaze on the ever-distant figure, whispering once more.
A breath hung in the air, as blood coalesced into faint red threads, drifting into the deepening night.
Lorenzo’s expression darkened; he suddenly sheathed his knife and gritted his teeth:
“Chase!”
The brief light faded, and the night grew ever darker.
Chaos and madness continued, dawn still far off.
