The Witch's Anatomical Notes

Ch. 84

Chapter 84

Car Accident and Falling into the Water

Light surged over the rock walls like a tide, and wherever it passed, the roots of the crying-faced tree writhed frantically.

However, the concentrated burst of divine contamination had already exceeded the absorption capacity of the roots.

Instead of diminishing, the divine power within the chamber accumulated severely due to the roots’ blockade, causing the bark to shed in great patches.

Beneath the peeling bark, countless human faces abruptly opened their hollow eyes, and a terrifying screech reverberated through the cave.

“Ah——”

The assault squad members all clutched their heads and fell to their knees, their pupils contracting as the impact upon their seas of consciousness left everyone’s vision blank.

When their sight returned.

The grizzly bear noticed a terrifying enchanted beast lunging straight toward him.

He instinctively swung his massive claws, and the sound of tearing was accompanied by warm blood splattering onto his face it was actually a companion from the Witch’s Cottage who had fallen.

“How…how could this be!”

His clarity of mind lasted only an instant before the divine contamination once more devoured his reason.

Lucy abruptly opened her eyes, a neat asphalt road coming into view.

She realized she was standing on a familiar street.

Wasn’t this the very street on Earth where she once struck it rich by sheer luck?

She quickly lowered her head and discovered that, although she was wearing the T-shirt and work pants from her previous life, her chest was still full and firm, and silver hair hung down across her forehead.

“The light’s green, Lucy.”

A gentle female voice came from her side. The blind date she had met a few times before was looking at her in confusion, seeing her stand still.

But gradually, black lines crept across Lucy’s face.

“I really want to pretend I don’t know, and take the chance to savor this world’s delicacies and pleasures again, but this dream is just too sloppy…”

From the sky came the fluttering sound of wings.

She looked up and saw a passenger plane with crow’s wings sweeping across the dome.

On both sides of the street, tall buildings built of piled stone stood solemnly, their surfaces covered in creeping vines, while ghostly green candlelight shone from their windows.

In the distance, a “Great Fortune Auto” sped toward her pulling the carriage were not mechanical engines, but four handsome warhorses.

Inside the carriage sat several nobles dressed in splendid garments…

Lucy stopped walking, and the “Great Fortune Auto” sped past along the edge of the road.

This was clearly a dream, replaying the day she had been struck and sent flying by the overloaded truck. Unfortunately, the power of laws within the Lord of Nightmares’ remains was limited.

After reading her memories, it had fused things from both worlds together, creating this bizarre and surreal worldview that let her realize in an instant she was dreaming.

She reluctantly let go of her blind date’s delicate hand and spoke while the other woman watched her in puzzlement.

“Did you not notice that I’m acting very strange today?”

Never mind the long silver hair all over her head just her chest, which was even fuller than the other woman’s. Had her blind date really not noticed?

Her companion studied her seriously for a while, then suddenly clapped her hands. “Your shoes are old! I’ll take you to buy new ones!”

Lucy covered her forehead. “Such a wonderful partner after transmigrating, someone else really got lucky.”

After she finished speaking, she ignored the blind date and stood on the sidewalk, rubbing her chin as she pondered how to break free of the dream.

Mentor Fernando had once said that to resist the laws, one needed to find a way to counter them within their own domain.

“But what kind of patterns do dreams have?”

Lucy looked around, then abruptly stretched out her finger to point at the traffic light at the intersection.

“Turn green, turn red, turn purple…”

To her surprise, the traffic light really began to change colors in accordance with her instructions.

Lucy understood.

When a person became aware they were dreaming, everything in the dream would be influenced by their thoughts.

After all, the Lord of Nightmares had only a single finger left, while she was the true master of the dream.

“Then the next step is to find Talia and Olivia.”

She reached out to stop a yellow cab pulled by two horses, opened the door, and climbed inside.

The driver, wearing a coarse hemp uniform like a coachman, greeted her warmly.

“Miss, where are you going?”

Lucy tilted her head and smiled. “Take me to find Talia.”

The driver’s expression abruptly stiffened, as though he were an NPC who had encountered a bug.

Shifting gears, releasing the clutch, pressing the accelerator… The two fine horses pulling the carriage let out shrill cries, and the cab sped forward along the road.

When the vehicle turned a corner, everything around her suddenly shifted from tall buildings into a small countryside village.

The cab beneath her had also turned into a rickety donkey cart that creaked loudly.

She was equally familiar with this place. The original owner of this body had lived here for fourteen years, only being brought to the Tower of the Four Sages two and a half years ago.

That’s right this was the hometown of Lucy and Talia, a small village called “Daolti.”

As Lucy walked past the clustered houses, the people inside moved mechanically like puppets on strings, repeating a few fixed actions over and over.

She quickened her steps toward the house that lived in her memory as Talia’s home, only to find it empty.

“Where did that girl run off to?”

Lucy stood at the doorway, watching Talia’s parents wandering aimlessly back and forth inside the house.

Suddenly, she thought of a place and strode quickly toward the far end of the village.

At this moment.

By the riverside, Talia, who was fishing, slipped, and her entire body plunged into the river of unknown depth.

Icy water washed over her head. She tried to struggle a few times but found herself sinking deeper and deeper.

She wanted to cry out for help. The moment she opened her mouth, river water flooded into her throat.

At that instant, Talia seemed to recall something. She reached for a crack in the rock wall, but her fingers found nothing.

‘There should have been a vine hanging down here!’

Talia didn’t know why such a thought arose in her mind, but she knew she was about to die.

Just as her consciousness began to blur from lack of oxygen—

“Talia, are you here?”

A voice, incomparably familiar, awakened her desperate will to survive.

She forced the last ounce of strength from her body, stretching her right arm up toward the surface of the water.

“Not here either?!”

When Lucy reached the riverbank, she didn’t see any sign of Talia. Just as she was about to leave,

a hand suddenly shot up from the water.

Without the slightest hesitation, Lucy leapt straight into the river.

The icy current instantly wrapped around her entire body. Holding her breath, she opened her eyes wide to search.

The world beneath the water was far more distorted than she had imagined the riverbed wasn’t made of mud and sand but countless writhing black tentacles, twisting like living things.

In the depths, a familiar cascade of brown hair floated in the water.

“Found you!” Lucy swam forward with all her strength and grabbed Talia’s arm.

But just then, the surrounding river began to boil, and the tentacles at the bottom surged toward them wildly, trying to drag the two of them back down.

Lucy immediately realized this was the interference of the Lord of Nightmares’ golden index finger.

She focused her mind and shouted inwardly, “This is my dream!”

A brief silence—

The river froze in place, the tentacles snapping apart inch by inch and dissolving into black smoke.

Lucy pulled the unconscious Talia to the surface.

“Talia, wake up!” She gently patted Talia’s cheek.

“Cough, cough, cough—”

After a fit of violent coughing, Talia suddenly sat up and spewed the river water from her stomach.

It took quite a while before Talia, finally catching her breath, wiped her mouth and looked around in confusion. “Where is this place?”

“This is a dream. It’s the Lord of Nightmares’ doing.” Lucy stood up and reached out to pull Talia to her feet.

Holding Lucy’s slightly cold little hand, Talia asked, “How did you know I was here?”

Lucy gave a brilliant smile. “Because when we were kids, you told me that once while fishing, you nearly drowned. You only survived because there was a vine hanging from the rock wall.”

Talia blinked in surprise. “I didn’t think you’d still remember!”

“Of course.” Lucy composed her expression. “But now isn’t the time for nostalgia. We have to find Olivia as soon as possible, then leave this place together.”
