Chapter 148: Chapter 148: I Only Have Three Tasks in Toussaint
Chapter 148: I Only Have Three Tasks in Toussaint
Lynn looked at the other person.
He saw that the knight genuinely seemed troubled.
So he nodded.
Together, they left the noisy hall.
Stepping outside.
The cool night breeze blew through, bringing a refreshing coolness and comfort that differed from indoors.
It made him feel much more awake.
"Master Lynn, actually, recently, I've been waking up every night from the same dream. I wonder if this signifies something. Could you please interpret it for me?"
Lynn hadn't expected that this was the purpose of the knight asking him to step outside.
He hesitated, then said, "Sir Milton, I'm not a dream interpreter, but I'd be happy to help you. Please tell me about it."
So Milton began to recount his dream.
"Every night, I dream that I, along with several other knight brothers, are part of a mission to escort a prisoner. But the target isn't some heinous criminal, but a little girl."
"I can't see the girl's face, nor do I know what crime she committed."
"All I know is that during the escort, the girl is often abused by other knight brothers, whose faces I also can't see."
As he recalled, Milton's tone and expression gradually turned to pain.
"I want to help that girl, I want to protect her, but I can't move. In the dream, I can't even control my own body."
"And when others are abusing her, I'm completely immobilized, forced to watch the girl suffer like a coward."
"You must be laughing at me, Master. You didn't expect me to be so vulnerable, did you?"
Lynn shook his head.
"No, Sir Milton. Humans aren't cold, unfeeling machines. Even the most hardened tough guy has a soft side. I can completely understand your feelings."
"However," he paused for a few seconds before slowly continuing, "you did get one thing wrong."
"This isn't some kind of omen. It's just... In short, don't dwell on it."
"Alright, I know it's not that easy to let go. Sir Milton, let me tell you a story."
"Long, long ago, in a peaceful village, there lived a young man named Spodios."
"He had wealthy, generous, and gentle parents. His parents were very good to him, not just materially, but spiritually too."
"Their family lived very happily in the local area. Joyful laughter often echoed from their house, making their neighbors envious."
"Until one day, Spodios was woken by a nightmare. He then went to the temple in the nearby town and asked the oracle for guidance."
"But the oracle told him a terrifying prophecy:"
"He would do unspeakable things to his parents. His mother's blood would stain the earth, and his father would cry out the names of the gods in pain."
"Spodios loved his parents very much, so when he returned to the village from the temple, he asked someone to build a cage."
Milton looked incredulous. "He locked himself in a cage?"
"Exactly. As you thought, he worried he would harm his parents as the oracle predicted, so he locked himself away."
"Later, a mercenary passed by the village. After hearing about Spodios, he was moved by Spodios's filial piety and decided to help him."
"Spodios believed he needed to return the sword and shield his parents had once given him. That way, as long as his parents could defend themselves, he wouldn't be able to harm them."
"He gave the sword to the village blacksmith for sharpening, and the shield was stolen by a female bandit near the village when he went to see the oracle."
"The mercenary's task then became simple."
"The mercenary retrieved the sharpened sword from the blacksmith and killed the female bandit near the village, recovering the shield."
Milton seemed greatly encouraged, punching his fist.
"The mercenary completed the task beautifully, ending the curse on Spodios! Now Spodios can live happily ever after with his parents again, right?"
Lynn continued, noncommittally.
"Spodios was indeed overjoyed. He believed that with the sword and shield, his parents would never again have to fear being harmed by him."
"But at that moment, Spodios's parents told him a cruel truth:"
"It turned out they were merely Spodios's adoptive parents. Spodios's true parents were actually the village blacksmith and the female bandit outside the village."
"Feeling that they weren't fit to be parents and couldn't provide Spodios with a better living environment, they had given him away for adoption."
"Unfortunately, when the mercenary retrieved the sword from the blacksmith, he also had a passionate encounter with the blacksmith, causing the blacksmith to shout out the names of the gods during the act;"
"And the female bandit who stole the shield, as the prophecy said, bled profusely when she was killed by the mercenary."
"Although Spodios didn't directly commit these unspeakable acts against his parents, if it weren't for Spodios's request, the mercenary wouldn't have caused such results."
Lynn spread his hands, concluding, "So, Sir Milton, let those damned fates, prophecies, and whatever else go to hell."
"Don't worry about them, and don't think they're some kind of ridiculous omen."
"If you still wake up from the same dream, pick up your sword and train."
"Train until you can't think of anything else and just want to fall into a deep sleep."
"Time is the best medicine. You'll be alright."
Milton had a sudden realization.
"Thank you, Master Lynn, I think I understand."
Watching the Bull Knight walk away, Lynn quietly sighed.
He knew, in fact, that Milton's dream was more than just a dream.
It truly was a kind of premonition.
And on another timeline, Milton did indeed witness atrocities helplessly, just as in his dream.
However, now that Lynn had arrived in Toussaint, none of that would happen again.
He came to Toussaint not just for Duchess Anna Henrietta, but also to prevent those future tragedies.
Lynn glanced back at the lively hall.
But he didn't go back and join them.
Instead, he continued walking outside.
Until he reached a prison cell.
"Who goes there?" The guard stationed in front of the cell noticed someone approaching and immediately tensed up.
But once Lynn got close enough for the guard to clearly see it was him, he quickly bowed and said, "My apologies, Master, forgive my rudeness. I didn't realize it was you."
NOTE: Spudio is a side story in Assassin's Creed Odyssey. It must be said that the Greeks are really open. Almost every NPC has the option to sleep. The author has a friend who slept all the way through
