Chapter 431: Announcement
(From Demetrius's Perspective)
After I made sure she was not as weak as before and her power was also awakened, I wanted to have a kid as soon as possible. If we had a kid, maybe I would be able to relax a bit. A kid would be like a string between us that could never be cut.
But she got pregnant way sooner than I anticipated. I never thought she would get pregnant within a month. Both of us were a bit worried about the pregnancy because of the last failed pregnancy. She was more worried than I was. But I could see how she was trying to stay positive.
Tonight, she invited a lot of people to dinner. There were two reasons. She wanted to see them since it had been a long time since they had met. Besides, all of them were very worried about her and actively tried to find her. Secondly, she wanted to announce her pregnancy.
Unlike before, she wanted to let everyone know about her pregnancy. She did not want to keep it a secret anymore. We would officially announce it within a month.
I felt a lot better about having a kid than before. If it was two years ago, I would not agree to it like the last time. I was afraid of being a parent, worrying I would not be able to raise a child well. I did not see the point in having a child if I was not eligible to raise it properly. I did not want my child to grow up with a sick mentality like mine.
But now, I was hopeful. I wanted to take the step, even if it meant testing my limits.
"Your Highness, are you still mad at me?"
"I never… said I am."
"I know I deserve death. Please punish me however you like. I will accept it."
My head was hurting as my wife's knight kept on apologizing to her. Both of her knights were here, just only Perita was making the noise.
"Stop," I said. "Just stop."
"Can't you see? You are annoying His and Her Highness," Calix said.
"Get up from… the ground, Perita… I told you… I'm not mad," Blue said.
"It's late already. Everyone is already at the dining hall," I said.
"That's right… We need t-to go, Perita… Let's talk later, hm?"
"Yes…," Perita mumbled. Calix had asked for Blue's forgiveness too a little while ago. He was not too extreme, but it was clear he was shaken by what happened as well.
We went to the dining hall. The moment Blue entered, everyone gasped. For the next couple of minutes, she was hugged again and again by almost every single person in the room. There were tears and a lot of things. Although they made me a little uncomfortable, I could understand why they were being that way.
"Why do you look thinner? Are you not eating?" the Marchioness asked Blue worriedly. She had better hold of her emotions than the Marquis, who actually cried.
"My daughter, where were you all this time?" the Marquis asked, sobbing a bit.
The Duchess was hugging Blue and was not letting go. I was worried my poor wife could not breathe.
"I'm fine… Don't worry," Blue said. "I just… Please, sit down… Besides, I have something t-to announce…"
"Oh, is this new news?"
'Why is he here again?'
Despite my displeasure, Blue invited King Ford too. It was weird that he agreed and came even though it was short notice. Was he not a king? If I needed to go somewhere, I needed to know at least a fortnight before to decide if I was going to go or not and change my schedule that way.
"What's this about?" King Ford asked.
"She will tell you," I said. "Why don't you go and hug her too?"
"Do you want to start a war with me?" he chuckled.
Blue sat down beside me. She usually sat in the opposite direction, but this time, she wanted to sit by me. King Ford sat on her right and asked her if she was alright.
"Are you okay?" I whispered to her.
"Hmm… Don't give me drinks…"
"Yeah, I know," I said.
The food was served. Blue had watermelon juice instead of wine. She was not supposed to drink because of her pregnancy.
The people who were present were the ones in our inner circle. Not all of them knew everything, but Blue decided to change that. Her being a dark mage would be known soon. So, she wanted to tell the people in our inner circle first.
She told everyone about her origin, the real identity of her father, and her powers. Different kinds of reactions were expected.
The duke was way too shocked. His calm face almost showed an expression.
"I know it's… something not everyone will accept. After all, dark mages… are not accepted… everywhere," Blue said. "So, there will be… a lot of problems and protests about… me being the Queen despite being a dark… mage. I will completely… understand if… any of you wants to protest… But… I will not give up… my position."
Her firm tone made me proud. That was how she was supposed to be; confident and bold. I knew what kind of person she was; it was her who needed to realize it.
"I won't protest obviously," Luc was first to say something. "You being a dark mage doesn't matter if you are our Queen and work for our kingdom. I won't mind having more power on our side."
To me, he was just an idiot, but he was actually a very important member. His opinion made a great change, regardless of the topic.
"I also will not protest," Ruby said. "As the mistress of the magic tower, I will support Your Highness no matter what."
"I am quite shocked, to be fair. The secret was well kept, I suppose," the duke.
"Yes, even your spies did not get a hint, hm?" I said.
"I do not have spies in the Imperial Palace, Your Majesty. I would not dare," he said.
'Right. Who will believe this kind of nonsense?'
"… And about Her Majesty being a dark mage, there surely will be protests, as Her Majesty said. I also have… some opinions that might not sit well with everyone. But I am the duke and I have to follow the King and the Queen, regardless of my opinions. And I will continue to do so," he said.
I knew what the duke was going to say even before he opened his mouth. I knew that person rather well. He was ambitious and someone who would do anything to keep himself out of trouble. He would never go against me.
"I don't care what my friend is. The moment I became your friend, I accepted every part of you," the duchess said. "Besides, it's not like you are hurting someone, so it's fine. Even if you are a dark mage, you are our queen and my dear friend, although I wish you had told me sooner. You must have had your reasons."
"Blue is my daughter, adopted, but still, she is our daughter. I will accept her no matter what. To be frank, if our Queen was a dark mage, it would be a bit troubling. But, I know the Queen personally this time. I know what you will do as a Queen and I have complete faith in you," the Marchioness said.
The Marquis was not in the condition to talk, but he kept nodding at Blue. He was an emotional person.
"I am from another kingdom anyway. As long as we are on good terms, I don't care," King Ford said.
"Thank you, everyone… Thanks for the… support," Blue said. "Ah, and there is… another thing…"
She nudged me on the arm. I nodded at her and cleared my throat. "This is something we plan on announcing publicly within a month. But the Queen and I decided to tell you all first," I said.
"You are making me feel weird. Are you two holding another marriage ceremony?" Luc said. "You know, some people hold a marriage ceremony every year or two, just to strengthen their bond. Is that the case?"
I glared at him but fixed my posture quickly. "No, it's not that. We are actually expecting a child."
"… Wait, what?!" Luc exclaimed. His reaction was exaggerated. "This quick? How is it possible…? How could you, you monster or what?"
"You are being disrespectful, Luc!" the Marchioness barked at him.
"Well, it's kind of… We decided to have… a child as soon as… my power is awakened," Blue said. "That's why…" Read latest chapters on empire
"My goodness! Congratulations!" the duchess exclaimed. "It's really amazing! Blue always wanted kids. You two will be good parents."
I was not so sure about myself, but I knew my wife would be the best mother possible. Now, her mentality developed more and she kind of understood what it would be like to be a mother, especially because of her last pregnancy. What happened surely was not fortunate, but it was also undeniable that she grew more as a person because of it. So did I.
