Chapter 12: I know that scent....
Day broke in the palace and it was quite a sunny day. Tahira woke up with a yawn her mother would have called unladylike. She glanced across the room to the mirror Infront of her. She looked a mess. Her hair was here and there. Picking up her brush she began brushing her hair. It was silky and tosoft. After which she held it together at the back with her hair band.
She got into her comfortable clothing and decided to take a stroll by the garden. She didn't feel hungry yet and decided not to join in the breakfast. That garden was her mother's. The castle grounds were usually dry and barren before her mother got married to her father. They were some disapprovals as she tried to plant the flowers but she had the support of her mother in law.
Now, it was spring and it had all bloomed. She hummed a beautiful music and she strode the garden grounds. Then she felt someone grab her by the arm. She instinctively made to hit the person but was stopped by the person's strong arms. She was quickly flipped to face the person and it was the stranger werewolf.
"You" he said.
"You attacked me in the forest didn't you? You inflicted that injury on me." He said again.
Tahira was bewildered by the accusations thrown at her. Had she met this wolf before yesterday? What was he talking about?
Then the werewolf came closer and sniffed her neck region.
"I know that scent" he said.
At that moment when Tahira felt he loosened his grip a little, she pulled herself away from him.
"I don't know who you think I am, but you should be careful how you manhandle ladies around here." Tahira said.
The male werewolf scoffed, "lady? You don't act like one"
Tahira was struck! Was she just insulted right now by a man she gave her blood to? Well that sounded to serious but giving your blood to someone was a serious thing right?
She had quite a serious look on her face and after a while, she decided not to get further involved with this stranger, and since she was the host, she should treat the guest right.
"Apologies for the inconvenience, if you need anything do well to inform the servants". She took a bow and left.
He was left speechless, just a moment ago she looked like she was ready to pluck out his eyeballs. The unexpected change in mannerism baffled him. She left him no opportunity to respond and strode off. He watched her from behind and it looked like he could sense what she was feeling.
It was evening already, the castle prepared the dishes for the guests. One would think they were holding a banquet.
Tahira showered and she could sense the maid enter her room. She guessed she probably brought her evening gown. Her father had duly informed her that they would be having an evening gathering with the guests. The extended family was invited too. This meant that Kalispel and her family were to be in attendance.
She got out of the bathtub and water sprinkled down her porcelain white skin. She grabbed her hairbrush and started brushing her hair just like her mother would always do for her when she was little.
She dressed herself and made to go down, it would be rude to arrive late at the table when the guests were there. Her mother wouldn't be pleased too. As she stepped down the case, she saw Kalispel and her family entering the castle. The carriage just dropped them. Kalispel really looked beautiful, she dressed as though it was a feast of a thousand bachelors, perhaps she had to make sure they looked just at her.
Tahira didn't bother with her, she always made it look like they were in a competition. But, she didn't even see her as a competitor.
"Evening greetings Uncle, Aunty ", she said as she approached them. They both nodded in response to the greeting.
"Hello Cousin" Kalispel greeted with a smirk on her face. Her smile had never been genuine, ever since they were little Tahira thought. Same old her.
"Hello, you look particularly stunning this evening, could there be something I don't know?" Tahira asked.
Kalispel laughed out really loud, even if she was upset, she couldn't miss an opportunity for a compliment.
"I see your eyesight have gotten better," she said. "But, you must be mistaken, I haven't dressed up any extra, this is how I look everyday." She said with another smirk on her face.
"Well then, can we proceed to the table?" Tahira said to avoid hearing extra nonsense from the one she had heard already.
They all proceeded to the table and when they got there, the guests were also right on time.
The Queen had a shrewd look on her face as she saw them. She could guess they were the relations to the king. They way they walked like they owned the place really looked like that of "people who wanted it, but couldn't have it."
Soon Sabrina walked in and welcomed the guests to the table. The other kingdom could feel the tension that suddenly grew at the table. Every parent at the table had serious thoughts going through their heads, but, it wasn't the case for their offsprings.
Kalispel could be said to have been lovestruck by the charming young man her eyes just beheld. Who was he? They must not be from this kingdom because she would have seen such a beauty if it had existed.
Khan on the other hand felt the intense gaze from the stranger girl directed towards him. This kingdom was definitely strange he thought. Their women seemed to be embodied with lots of strange attitude.
Tahira watched Kalispel gape at the male guests on the table. Was it the first time she was seeing a man? She wanted to understand the reason behind the moping and gazing. She looked back and forth at Kalispel and the male werewolf.
The King soon entered and all stood to welcome him. They all sat back down and the meals were quickly served. Even the servant girls were seen gazing at the strange male figure at the table. Seeing that everyone pretended to be engrossed by the meal and no one really wanted to start the conversation, Queen Sabrina decided to ease the tension.
"Perhaps, it seems the entire castle is curious about your son."she said.
She had noticed that the young lady Kalispel didn't seem to be able to take her look off Khan. She also wanted the other people at the table to have something to talk about. She believed every parent would always appreciate an opportunity to talk about their children.
The other Queen gladly took the offer and started talking.
